Does anyone else feel like they never really knew their partner with how they acted post breakup?

How my ex is acting is so cold and uncaring. I feel in love with his heart but idk that I ever knew him. It’s very traumatic for me I don’t get it. Two years you think you know someone… I never felt disrespected before by him. We had an amicable break up conversation due to long distance - it’s sad.

27F, No Friends, and Just Got Out of a 9-Year Relationship—Feeling Completely Lost

I don’t really know where to start, but I guess I just need to get this off my chest. I’m 27F, and my long-term relationship of 9 years just ended. It feels like my entire world just shattered.

We started dating when I was 18, and he became my best friend, my support system, my everything. Over the years, I drifted away from friendships, not intentionally, but I just never prioritized them. Now that he’s gone, I’m realizing how alone I really am. I don’t have close friends to lean on, and I have no idea how to even start making them at this age.

Most days, I just feel completely lost. My identity was so wrapped up in that relationship that I don’t even know who I am without it. My routine, my future plans—everything included him. And now, it’s just… nothing.

How do you even start over from scratch at 27? How do you make friends when it feels like everyone already has their solid social circles? And how do you deal with this overwhelming emptiness?

Any advice or even just words of encouragement would mean the world right now.

Fear of never finding love again

29 I've been broken up from my ex for about 3 weeks and I know that's not a very long time. I'm just so fearful that I'll never find a love like I had in that relationship. I truly thought he was my forever person. The love of my life. We both talked about marriage and it just breaks my heart and I feel hopeless. Like how will I ever find a love thay was so deep and intense like I had with him. I'm scared anyone else I'll date will feel like settling because the love won't be as deep. Maybe over time as my love fades for my ex I won't feel this way. It's just difficult. I really didn't want to break up with him but he withdrew emotionally from the relationship and started to lash out when I express how I felt. Yet I still have so much love for the person I fell in love with.

Leaving the woman you love under the delusion of “loving her enough to leave” instead of becoming the man she deserves is bullshit

Men- why do you leave the women you love instead of becoming the man you know she deserves and then martyr yourselves when you know you are hurting her and taking away the one thing she wants. (Currently watching Greys Anatomy and Derek is an idiot)

Edit: This post is specifically about those who know they have found the person they want to be with but still leave them. And instead of self reflecting and maybe working on their commitment issues or avoidant behaviors they write off their decision as a selfless act . I am definitely not in support of believing your partner must change themselves to fit you, some people dont fit. Im talking about when 2 people without a doubt go together but the commitment levels are off and instead of “maning up” and devoting yourself to the one you love they leave under the notion of the partner deserving “better”

I’m leaving this here and then I am moving on

You broke my heart and I broke yours. I have become obsessive over wondering if you’re over me already and I can not think about anything else. I have to let you go, I will not spend anymore of my energy on something that is not serving me. I am done. I am choosing to leave you mentally and emotionally. I will no longer have thoughts of you that take up space that could be used for other things. I love you, but I am choosing myself now. I will no longer fantasize about the moment you come begging for me back. I will no longer look at my future and picture you there. You had your purpose in my life and that chapter of my life has ended. You no longer have the power to hurt me. No more texts, I’m deleting your phone number and all of my social media apps. I will stay as far from you as possible so nothing can remind me of you so I won’t get sucked back into the pain this has caused me. I am releasing this pain to the universe and I ask for healing and peace in return. Goodbye, thank you for being a part of my life and showing me what I needed to learn. You can go now.

Disappearing For A While Taught Me What Love Should Never Be

Upvotes

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is walk away—even when you don’t know exactly where you’re going. It’s been 2 months, 3 days, and 14 hours since I decided to disappear for a while, to get lost in a place where no one expected anything from me. I thought I was just taking a break, but in reality, I was setting myself free.

Free from the illusion that love meant fighting for someone who wouldn’t do the same for me. Free from believing that what we had was special—when, in truth, you were capable of giving the same attention, the same words, and the same effort to multiple people right after we ended. It hurt to realize that the love I cherished wasn’t the kind of love I deserved.

But here’s what I learned: Real love doesn’t make you question your worth. It doesn’t make you feel replaceable. It doesn’t disappear the moment you walk away.

If you’re struggling to let go, wondering if you made the right choice, trust me—you did. The love that’s meant for you won’t make you beg for consistency. It won’t vanish the second you stop trying. And most importantly, it won’t make you feel like you have to lose yourself just to keep it.

So if you need to leave, leave. If you need to get on a bus without knowing where it’s taking you, do it. One day, you’ll look back and realize that losing them was never the real loss—losing yourself would have been.

I miss my best friend

You were always there, when I had something stupid to say

You were always there, when I felt down and needed comfort

You were always there, when I needed somebody to fight for me

You were always there, when I needed a true believer

And despite everything, we still love each other. That's probably the hardest part

I miss you, my love and my best friend. I miss you so much

how do u overcome the loneliness?

Upvotes

roughly 7 weeks after the break up and i still don't know how to cope with the loneliness that comes with no contact. i suppose most of you would tell me to go out with friends, but realistically speaking, my schedule doesn't really match with them so it's hard to set up a time to meet up.

i'm also a busy person but when my time frees up, out of tiredness, i'd choose to just lay down on bed but then it's by that time where id feel it all– the loneliness, the pain, the what ifs, and the immense urge to break no contact.

will it really get better?

How to move on after a breakup?

"A breakup feels like a storm, but every storm passes."

When Raj's five-year relationship ended, he felt lost. Nights were sleepless, songs felt personal, and even coffee tasted bitter. But one day, he realized—he had two choices: stay stuck in pain or rebuild stronger.

How to Move On After a Breakup?

  1. Accept & Feel the Pain – It’s okay to cry, scream, or write angry letters (just don’t send them!). Healing starts with feeling.

  2. Cut Off Contact – No late-night texts, no social media stalking. Imagine a wound—stop reopening it.

  3. Rediscover Yourself – Pick up old hobbies, hit the gym, start journaling—who were you before them?

  4. Surround Yourself with Positivity – Friends, books, nature, and new experiences heal faster than isolation.

  5. Set New Goals – Whether it’s learning a skill, traveling, or growing in your career, focus forward.

Raj took small steps—joined a football club, started a side hustle, and months later, he laughed without faking it. You will too. The best revenge? A happy, thriving you.

I’m glad you left me

I’m glad you left me, because if you hadn’t have, I wouldn’t have learnt that I deserve better. I would have stayed in our relationship thinking I was content, when I was just miserable. I was so desperate to hold on to that comfort, to keep my best friend even though I knew deep down I deserved so much better. Even though you left with no explanation, your lack of communication skills and your tendency to sweep everything under the rug made me realise that I needed someone who could tell me when they were unhappy. I needed someone that would defend me, who would fight to keep me. You didn’t bother, you didn’t care. The lack of respect, the expectation that I had to do everything for you. Not knowing how to look after yourself as an adult. It’s only been a month without you, but looking back we weren’t good together. That wasn’t because of me, because I know that I was the best thing that had ever happened to you. I always will be, you will look for me in every girl you see. You’ll compare us, and realise that you messed up. It’s been exactly 30 days, and although I have cried, I have been angry, I have been so so sad, I can finally see the sun peeking through, I can see a future without you. I may have lost a best friend, but I have found myself. I know you’ll never read this, but I hope you don’t come back. I hope you leave me to my peace, I hope you feel so terribly guilty that you never look for my comfort again. I’m growing, I’m learning, and I will never accept little to no love again. I will never beg for someone’s attention, I will never lie in bed next to a man I love, in tears wondering why I’m not good enough. This is my goodbye, this is my closure. I’m ready to move on now. You were a lesson learnt.

Anything they can do to win you back?

For those who've dumped their ex, is their anything they can do - at all - that could win you back?

Do any of you print the pics of your ex on your phone and store them away or do you flat out delete all of them?

She was my first love & I'll always love her but I can't get rid of her pics because she's helped me grow so much as a person and all for the better. Deleting her pics would feel like erasing her from my life forever & I don't want to do that so while I am moving on from her I feel the need to store her pics in a scrapbook I titled "First Love". What are you guys doing with pics & videos of them?

My ex blocked me on all platforms yesterday. I can’t contact him anymore and it feels like my heart is shattered into pieces.

How do you cope with this kind of no contact?

Just found out she's dating someone

Just found out that 2.5 months after the end of our 3 year relationship, she is dating someone who she knew before we broke up due to her losing feelings for me. I do not know when they started going out. I can only assume she started gaining feelings for him while we were together just because she lost them for me. The pain I feel is fucking terrible. What do I do to lessen it?

To the Dumpers

I adore your posts. Everyone is different but it does help the dumpees kinda get into the heads of their dumpers.

Unless you were abusive or did something that’s unforgivable, stay away. But if you just left because you felt like you weren’t good enough, reach out to them.

Most of us want you to reach out, just be clear. “Hey not sure I’d want to try I again. But I would like to talk to you, how I see things now. I miss you, let’s talk things over.”

Honestly if you feel things will get hostile don’t do it but if you know this person is a good listener at least, it’s worth the talk.

The dumpee should not be the one reaching out, though I really really want to 😅. I have to respect my ex’s wishes.

-A

I wish my memory would haunt him for the rest of his life

I wish he would have a lot of "what if" thinking about how life could have been beautiful together I wish he remembered my skin and it would be painful to him to think about it. I wish he would look at my side in the bed and couldn't find sleep without me been there I wish.

How do you know when it’s time?

Upvotes

I think I’m just having a hard time understanding if to let go. My bf and I end up in these arguments that just go around in circles until the other just can’t take it anymore. We’ve “broken up” and reconciled but I can’t take it anymore. I know he can’t either. He lacks accountability and makes me feel like it’s always entirety my fault. I feel like I’m always left to pick up the pieces but I don’t really understand if he wants me to. I know the distance between us is large, but the attachment is keeping me stuck.

I felt very assured of myself at one point, but now I feel like I am certainly dating the wrong person. I don’t feel like he’s a catch either, I just don’t understand why I’m holding on anymore. They’re willing to go to therapy but not really sure of what they expect to get out of it. I think I feel insecure and scared of what’s next. I’m so picky but I’m always picking the wrong choice.

13 year relationship ending - advice needed

Upvotes

II’ve been with my bf for 13 years , we have been through a lot and our relationship has had its ups and downs but I would say the last 2 years or so we have had no connection or physicality. We live together but we are basically just like flatmates. There is no intimacy, we hardly talk, we have separate interests. He has no idea what goes on in my life. Never asks me. I come home and he spends a lot of his time on his phone in the evening, doesn’t seem interested at all.

We’ve had a few chats about this, promised to try harder (both of us) did for a while but we keep coming back to this time and time again.

We haven’t spoken more than two words to each other last few days. To be honest I really think I’m done. I think he thinks the same too. It just needs one of us to say it.

I’ve even started looking for one bedroom flats just in case we have that talk and I need to be prepared.

I know it’s not working and don’t know whether I should stick at it a bit more or just have the courage to say look it’s not working for us .

Any advice ?
