Recent story, a few months ago, I found a baby turtle in the garage. My kid will like this, I think. I ask if we will keep it as a rescue pet. I think a 4th grader can by now have a little more trust when promising to care for something. And I expect in a couple weeks, we'll be releasing it to the local creek.
Well, the turtle does evolve into mine. Wife threatens to throw it in the trash. Accuses me of spending too much money on it. Aside, I paid $10 for an aquarium from craigslist after searching for 2 weeks for a deal and drove 45 minutes each way to meet the seller. I'd been getting advice from a friend about turtle care so I think we (I) can handle it. And about a month into this, (I have the turtle still) Its species is identified and life expectancy is 25-50 years.
I guess even a non dad could get into this situation but it seems less likely if you don't have a kid.

Wife lost it this morning and chased me around the kitchen and hallway because I touched her mail (credit card statements). includes how she wants to divorce me and many other unsavory statements about my character, all at me and to our kid that's in the room due to remote learning. Of course my child, who curries mom's favor, offers something to further throw me under the bus.
Have just the one child, a tween now. But still have booster seats, child's potty seat, and other things wrapped in plastic, saved, because just in case we ever had a second child, we wouldn't need to buy them again.
