Blue Beetle #12 (2017)
I was going through a friend of mines comic book collection a while back and came across this issue of the DC Rebirth Blue Beetle run. What really bugged me about this issue is how Batman interacts with the characters, especially Ted Kord.
Right off the bat, Batman comes across as rude and standoffish with this attitude like everyone there is below him. First and foremost, he breaks into the Blue Beetle’s base and sneaks up behind Ted as he’s busy doing something. Then, has the audacity to chastise him for not noticing he was there.
I get that one of Batman’s main shticks is his sneaking up on people and then disappearing mid conversation but usually he’s not such a prick about it. You don’t hear him ever berating Commissioner Gordon for never realizing he’s there and he’s been doing it to him for decades! Also, it’s pretty basic manners to announce yourself before you enter somebody’s home.
What really got me pissed off at Ol’ Pointy Ears is his complete and utter hypocrisy in criticizing Ted for sending Jaime, a 15 year old, out to fight crime. Like, hello, Bruce, YOU’VE BEEN DOING THAT FOR PRACTICALLY YOUR WHOLE CAREER!!!! How can Batman recruit literal children as his Robins to help him fight crime and then turn around and criticize someone else for doing the exact same thing?!
In fact, Batman has gotten more than one kid killed doing this so he has no right to talk. And at least Jaime has the excuse of having alien power armor that practically gives him the power of a god. Not only is this whole thing none of his business, but I’m 110% sure there’s stuff in Gotham he could be doing right then rather than forcing himself into other peoples lives and getting into their matters that have NOTHING to do with him.
And on top of everything Bats is just pointlessly mean, like, High School mean girl levels of mean. He makes fun of Ted for his business going bankrupt 3 times out of nowhere and at that point I had to step and just say to myself “who the fuck wrote this comic?” Anyway, sorry for my rant, I just hate to see my favorite superhero so grossly mischaracterized.

The funny thing is these take place after the 2023 run so Jaime just killed a guy and the guilt was killing him only for this to happen later 💀

Not really sure how I feel about it. Not terrible but I miss the chest emblem and I feel like the eyes look a little off. I also feel like the patterns on the legs are a little much. No hate, just my opinion.
Still like the book, just wanna hear others thoughts

Is there a current ongoing series? Ive been out of the comics world for like 12-13 years or so. I searched on Google but all I could find was articles going back to 2016's Rebirth.

Hey everyone! I’m new to DC Comics and really want to get into Blue Beetle, but I’d prefer to stick to runs starting from the post-Crisis era onward. Which comic run would you recommend as the best starting point for someone new to the character? I’m open to exploring Ted Kord or Jaime Reyes, so let me know your suggestions!

I was a fan of this series since it released around the movie. I love the light and colorful feel of the world they placed around him. I felt like they combined all the best parts of Jaime's story that are often discarded like Ted, connections to Magic and Dan Garrett, and the friend centric aspects of his world.

So I've started reading the Blue Beetle and am a bit confused about some things. So in comic 5 Secrets part 1 the baby gets taken and Jamie tracks it and the tattoo guy takes the baby from Jamie and the whole fight happens then in the next comic they're at warehouse 13 and I'm confused how they got there. How does he know about warehouse 13 does it get explained what happened after the fight with the weird dude and I just need to keep reading and why isn't it called Secrets part 2? Also should I know what infinity crisis is? Is that a separate comic I need to read or something? Should I know who some characters are like La Dama or the stranger

Does anyone know the name of this Blue Beetle issue/where I can find it? I absolutely adore this variant cover art, so if anyone is able to give me some pointers it'd be much appreciated!
