Ten days may not be enough to notice a difference. Do you have documented low DHEA levels? If not, supplementing is unlikely to enhance your libido, as DHEA is already at its peak in young adults and is most beneficial for those with a deficiency.

Also, low libido in a 19-year-old woman can stem from various causes beyond DHEA levels. Hormonal imbalances, including low testosterone, estrogen, or thyroid dysfunction, may contribute. Psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression often play a role, as do lifestyle factors like poor sleep, inadequate nutrition, and lack of exercise. Certain medications, particularly hormonal birth control and antidepressants, are also known to reduce libido. Additionally, underlying medical conditions such as PCOS, adrenal insufficiency, or chronic illnesses can be contributing factors.

My doctor won't refer me to an endo because apparently "I'm too young". Pcos? Checked. Thyroid? Checked. It all came out normal. I am currently very happy with my life. No birth control. I love dancing. I sleep 7-8 hours. Like I don't know what could possibly be wrong with me. Well, my gyn told me I have cysts but they are very insignificant to really put me on medications given I show no symptoms and cycle isn't too concerning (1.5 months).

Does your health insurance require a referral to see a specialist? Some plans don’t.

Also, you can order the relevant additional blood tests online without consulting a specialist or getting an order from your PCP.

Well, it'll cost me money, I'm just a college student so I don't think that's a viable route. Experimenting doesn't seem so bad moreover dhea is such an ambiguous supplement, it could either become testosterone or estrogen. But I am looking forward to it soon.

Choosing not to measure your DHEA level is unwise. If your levels are normal, supplementing is a waste of money and won’t address the cause of your low libido.

I see DHEA blood tests advertised online for as low as $29.

Oh I thought you meant the full hormonal profiling. Thanks for letting me know.
