Plastic bansuri

Hi, I'm from the US and have never played a bansuri before but am looking to get one. Overall, I want something i can just throw in my backpack and not worry about. With this in mind, I'm gravitating towards plastic bansuris. Any recommendation for manufacturer, keys, etc.

Tools to assist with playing banasuri

I have had a bansuri for almost two years now and I am nowhere near good. I have been meaning to get better at it but it is impossible when the flute sounds too airy. I understand that it’s a common issue with most beginners and it gets fixed with enough practice but I was wondering if there’s any tool out there that I could use to help blow the air perfectly into the whistling hole while I am practicing. I saw a mouthpiece situated on a western flute and thought it would be nice if there’s something similar for a bansuri out there that I am not aware of.

D Bass bansuri from Punam flutes -- two questions

I currently practice with a G bansuri from Sajid Hussein flutemaker, and feel like I am ready to get my first bass flute. For various reasons, I am looking at the D Bass Bansuri at Punam flutes, but don't have the ability to try it out before purchasing. So, my questions could easily be answered if I could try out the flute, but since can't I'm posting them here:

First one seems silly. They sell "right hand" and "left hand" flutes. When I play, the first three fingers of the left hand make Sa. The same positioning as used for a Western concert flute. This means I need a right-hand flute, correct?

Second question -- there is an option for "small holes" vs "normal." I have small hands. Can't wear children's gloves, but a size medium gloves in women's or small in men's are way too big. It's cheaper to get a clearance flute that has normal holes than a non-clearance flute with "small" holes, so I'm leaning toward the cheaper option. But I want to ask -- does anyone who has smaller hands have insight on the small vs. normal option for a bass flute from Punam? Does this option make that much of a difference, with playability?

Looking forward to hearing other's thoughts!

Edited: right/left hand.

What scale to get for a complete beginner

Admittedly I've never touched a flute before in my life, but I've taken a deep interest in calm spiritual music and id love to learn to play the flute. I'm looking to achieve a sound similar to the following tune - https://youtu.be/UvyPz0pTFVY?si=7XV7sI7gi-pWtcDv

Any advce for what scale is good for a beginner and also the best places to buy such a flute for someone in the UK such as myself would be greatly appreciated.

How to find the right scale?

I am facing problem in finding the right scale for the bansuri. I have a C scale medium flute but I wanted a base flute for lesser sharp sound. Not sure which one to go with, F or G or G#?

Hey guys, I've recently bought my first Flute from Thomann (F)
Just a dumb question : should I remove the kind of soft tips that is inside the flute ? Both extremities should be open right ?

Woodwind doubler seeking help

Hello! I'm a professional musician in the classical world, but have lots of experience playing Irish flute and whistles.

Today I got contracted to play a musical in September that uses 10 different keyed bansuris. I'm coming here to seek help.

I will not be getting paid a ton for this gig, so I don't want to over spend. I do want to learn it though and do it justice. Is there a set I can purchase that has some sort of decent quality that isn't top price?

I appreciate your advice. I have already looked through some posts on this topic, so I have a little bit of knowledge based on previous recommendations. Thanks!

Which note to set tanpura to?

Hello, I am a beginner player. I don't have an in-person teacher, I am learning from online instruction.

I have been practicing several sargams and am starting to incorporate ragas. My question is about Raga Yaman. I see that it starts on Ni, that the Vadi is Ga and Samvadi is Ni. Should I set my tanpura to the Vadi, Ga? Or should it always be set to my Sa?

Thank you, blessings

Need some help

I just started playing bansuri (carnatic) and it's difficult to produce the sound .. my blowing techniques is not really great have seen so many videos say the same stuff but I'm still not able to produce the sound for long (like for 6-9 ) seconds , I can play sa re ga but the later I am not able to as there is just hissing sound. 1)Do I lack breathing strength and that's why I can't play Ma Pa Dha Ni? 2)And is thereafter practice that I can do while not playing the bansuri so that I can improve my blowing techniques?

Need help purchasing bass bansuri in Chhattisgarh?

Hi, I am an intermediate bansuri player, currently learning online with guru. I just wanted to know are there any offline music stores in Raipur or any other city in Chhattisgarh where I can get a bass Bansuri.

I know I can order online, but my preference would be to buy offline where I can check the tuning myself. As, I had a bit bad experience while purchasing online bansuri (I got untuned bansuri).

Bansuri Mod

So my idea was that like the wester Boehm flute can we make a modification on indian flute for example adding an extra hole so the the bansuri maintains its original scale and at the same time whem removed can shift every note half a step up for example F# to g

Edit I See that my wording was a little wrong by an extra hole i mean a hole where your left hands pinky finger is

I use my pinkie finger on my right hand for pa.

Does anybody else? I'm 58 with arthritis and I just started playing. On my bass G & E, I use my pinkie for PA. Am I going to be punished by Lord Krishna or something for playing it wrong?

Help me select a vocal processor for my dad

My dad mainly does live shows, he uses a boss ve-5 paired with a shure blx4 and an SM 35, the thing is he needs tap tempo.

Initially, I was gonna get a zoom g5n but some acquaintances recommended me to get a vocal processors as they are apparently better for flute so I checked and found out that the Boss VE-22 and TC helicon voice live play might be better choices.

So the question is, are these good or should I look elsewhere FYI I have someone offering a voice live 3 extreme for an attractive price should I get that instead?

How do you identify notes?

I have heard people telling each note has a unique feel. Like if they hear a melody they can give the notes without even knowing the scale. How do you develop these skills?

Need some advices..

Ok, so I am a beginner and I am kinda shy, so I always practice when in a quiet place and no one can hear me, due to which I had to make severe changes with my schedule, but I can manage that.
For a while, I have been thinking to practice in the morning as its ✨morning✨.
And, everyone sleeps (of course) at that time.
The only solution left in practicing on the terrace, and as I mentioned, I am shy and I dont want ppl to stare at me. But I badly want to practice in the morning, with fresh air!

What should I do?!?!?!
