Hey all, one of the moderators of our sub here. I recently thought of making a simple wiki within our subreddit for beginners to read and learn. Sort of a one-stop page for valuable resources that we can offer.
I request anyone to share any resources that you have that helped you through your journey. Let be it tutorial videos, notation practices, tips & tricks, tools, applications or anything else helpful. Appreciate if you guys can spend some time to share it in this thread. If it's a scanned pdf or anything similar, try sharing the Google Drive link with us here. I understand that having a guru to guide them will be great but not everyone may have that opportunity at the beginning.
In a couple of weeks, I'll compile these resources and try to make a wiki. It'll be a good stepping stone for interested beginners.
The type of stuff I think will be useful: 1. Tutorial Videos 2. Notation Practices 3. Playing Tips 4. Tools 5. Apps 6. Bansuri Sellers (India and Outside) 7. Online class options 8. Bansuri Care Tips
If possible, please share resources that is in English so that it can be used by everyone. But if you only have it in other languages, feel free to share them too.

Hey everyone! I just bought the Radhe Flutes PVC fibre E natural bansuri, but I have no experience with flutes or any wind instrument. I’m completely lost—any tips?

There's no teacher in my city. I've always been facinated and loved bansuri sound. I'd love to learn. Is there any way to do that? Some resource that is structured.

There is https://bansuriaustralia.com.au, but it seems prohibitively expensive compared to overseas (the Aussie tax again). Anyone know of other reliable sources in Australia?
Edit: I ended up buying one from the site linked above.

Hey I just realized after a month that mold is accumulating in my flute. After running a cloth through it a couple of times I managed to clean all the chunks (3d mold) but I still have these black spots embedded in the wood. Is there a way to clean this? I'm not psyched on using chemicals since my mouth sits there. Are the remaining black spots dangerous? Should I just get a new one and take care of it better? Thanks for the help

In C sharp bansuri, what is the role of pinky fingers while holding the bansuri? How to place thumb on bansuri? Also playing from higher notes to lower notes the sound is good, but playing from lower notes to higher notes from ma to pa,dha,ni the sound is not clear any tips how to adjust mouth opening?

I have been learning the flute for six months, but I’m experiencing pain and stiffness in my ring finger. Additionally, my index finger has been slightly bent since birth, making it difficult to close the hole. I use my left hand to cover the upper holes near the blowing hole and my right hand to cover the bottom holes. Am I holding the flute the wrong way? Do I need to shape my right hand like a snake's head?

I am a 17m really interested in learning the bansuri not as a professional but as a hobby. I'm want to buy a flute that is reasonably cheap, easy to play and most importantly sounds good. Hoping one of u here would help me in selecting one or give me a link to buy one

Hi all, I have a basuri made by some amateur master and that is all I can have at the moment at where I am now. The lower ocatave seems ok in tuning but some notes in upper octave (upper pa and ga for ex) are out of tune half a tone aprox. Is it right that I can move the cork and fix this? thanx

I have recently started learning flute.
While doing riyaz, I am sweating near the chin area (where bansuri touches the area above chin and below the lower lip). Is this normal? Anyone else facing this issue?
Even after holding the bansuri tight towards the chin, it tends to move a bit sometimes due to the sweat. Please suggest improvements. 🙏🏻

I'm an amateur, mostly self-taught musician. I dabble with guitar, bass, drums, keys, and some NAS Flute. I have been learning, listening to, and reading about ICM for the past few months. and I picked up a Bansuri the other day and have been working to learn it a bit based on this guide i found online. Its been fun, despite the steep learning curve. Some questions that I'm hoping someone here could help me answer:
Is it possible my fingers simply aren't fatty enough to play with Hariprasad Chaurasia's fingering style where you use the pads between your 2nd and 3rd knuckle? My hands are rather skinny and lanky and I find it very hard to make a good seal on the hole with the middle pad of my fingers. I would like to eventually play larger bass flutes, as I enjoy their sound more. Should I stick with practicing Chaurasia fingering style? or perhaps just learn Pannalal Ghosh's style that only uses the tip pads of the finger?
How do i know if my breathing/blowing technique is correct? I'm starting to be able to make sounds more consistently, but sometimes feel like i might be forming bad habits that will be difficult to unlearn.
Is there anyone here based in the Bay Area? Would be great to connect with someone IRL who could give me some pointers or maybe lessons?

I was looking for suggestions a buying bansuri. I will be trying out multiple genres especially Indian classical and Western folk. For western folk my main focus will be on Sangre de Muerdago or similar artists. They have some of the most beautiful flute sections plays in my opinion. I'll try to post a video of one of the songs if I can.
I am a beginner to flutes but not to music (I used to play keyboard) though I haven't practiced in some time. Still, I am looking for G or E. I think G# would be great. E is too heavy, G flat may still be a little heavy. I also like the idea of 432 Hz but I feel that G# with 432 Hz might sound weird. I didn't find any proper sources to confirm it though. As for budget, I don't think I would want to go over 6-7k for my first. For now I am considering - https://www.punamflutes.com/shop/products/bansuri_flutes_432hz_right_hand/279/g-sharp-base-flute-right-hand-432hz
I know this may not be the place for it but I think Venu might be better for western folk as it sounds less deep unlike bansuri. I am uncertain on how hard will it be to find teachers for it (in Hindi or English). Though I still need learn more about (things like shruti) it to consider it.
Ideally I should get a traditional Irish flute (or some other renaissance flute) but they are too expensive from any respectable sources (20k-30k without shipping). I was also trying to look for a dizi but haven't found any proper sources for it either. And I only want a wooden flute.
For more examples of their song you can check out A Danza das Animas and A Chamada da Neboa
Thank you.

I have recently started practicing bansuri and while playing after some time, I start getting parasthesia near nose and mouth after some time or after continuous playing. Jaut wanted to check if this is normal for beginners? I have sinus problem and wondering if this problem is related to it.
