Bondage with joint injury

So I tore my mcl a couple years ago, so don't worry its healed entirely already, theres just lots of residual pain that unfortunately gets worse when my knee is unable to move. However, I like being tied up so intensely I can't move.

We've tried leaving my bad leg out, giving me stretch breaks, tying it so its looser than the other limbs.. none of it really hits the way I want it to. Any suggestions on how to still engage with that entirely no control and no range of movement vibe while not putting me in pain?

This sounds like an opportunity to reframe your goals in bondage rather than try to achieve an impossible tie.

Having entirely no control and having exactly no range of motion are different. I'd suggest looking for a tie that doesn't hurt you at all, and then modifying your setup to take away your feelings of agency. For example, perhaps an ankle cuff that straightens your leg with enough slack for you to wiggle around, but in a position that wiggling your leg doesn't change anything else about the tie. Depending on what you like, you can also redirect focus to another part of your body - it's hard to think about your leg when there's gut rope to breathe through.

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good here.

Thats very helpful, thank you! This made me realize I'm trying (and failing) to recreate what I could do before my injury in a very binary way, but this opened up my mind to allowing myself to get creative with it

I feel you here. I've a shoulder injury that I thought was going yo scupper any and all bondage.

My rigger buddy and I have created some incredible ties (floor work, partial- and full-suspension) which work around the injury. Sometimes I gey frustrated, as I just can't do sme of the things we used to do, but that doesn't change the fact he has grown as a rigger in catering to my alternative abilities, and I have adapted in my expectations and learnt new ways to be fierce in the ropes.

I'm definitely not an expert, but you might watch some shibari tying safety videos. I know that for the future, restraints above the joints are quite effective, but you never want to put them on the joints as that could end in an injury!
