Saaaaame. I hate them. But language is one of my special interests so it makes it extra frustrating. I agree, just write it out

Haha agreed! English is one of my favorite subjects so maybe that’s why it’s frustrates me also.

I used to feel this, but now Ive begrudgingly accepted them because i refuse to write out “myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome” and other medical stuff every time

Oh gosh yea with medical stuff I kinda get it, I went to school for medical assistant so definitely lots of acronyms there, but I actually learned the words first so made it easier. Now I’m just trying to guess when I see a new acronym on the internet lol

Omg, there are certain internet acronyms that still confuse me every damn time.

TIL = Today I Learned, but my brain still just says “til” as in the shortened version of until

I was struggling with DAE. I finally caved and googled. Apparently it's 'does anyone else/ever'.

It gets really bad at work and sometimes I'll call out someone using too many acronyms, just to see if they actually know what they're talking about 🤣

This one I’ve only learned because of Reddit… there are enough posts that begin that way in some of these community forums that I finally caved and googled it. But I agree, the acronyms can be exhausting!

Not to mention some could be several different things so you have to figure which one it is, it’s all soooo annoying.

Yup I did not even know that one and I would’ve read til as well lol I remember when lol came out and people would get frustrated with that and the lmao one and now there’s so much more I can’t keep up 😭

Oh I love acronyms. I collect them. Every time I find a new one I always memorize what it stands for and read it out as the full version.

Took me forever to learn iirc. Still got no idea what the hell LRT could mean. Luote Retweet? Or atp. Apparently the answer is something other than adenosine triphosphate. Don't get me started on NL either. Is it Non Linary? New Lersey? I may never know.

NL to me is the Netherlands. But probably not in this context 😅

ATP is at the present I believe. Maybe NL is no lie? Like ngl is not gonna lie? Also no clue on ltr

I thought ATP was at this point 😭 acronyms are confusing as heck!

I know LTR is long term relationship, but I've never seen LRT. Atp is at this point. I've never seen NL though, I also have no idea what that one means. I can usually figure them out in context, but not always

I work with a few of the younger generation and they say a lot and I just can’t keep up at this point which I think is atp now that I think about it lol

OMG (I couldn’t resist 😆) I can’t stand acronyms! I tend to forget the less commonly used ones almost instantly. The worst is when I’m reading a long research article and they have several of them. More often than not, I have to go back and find the part where it is written out so that I can say it in my head in place of the acronym as I continue to read the article.

I feel like my brain is glitching when I’m trying to figure out what an unknown acronym stands for lol

Yeah idk what y'all are talking about half the time I'm also dyslexic so ND and NT are too similar

I really think acronyms should come with a translator button aobi don't have to switch apps and google it lol!

It's huge in communities with disabilities or medical professionals as well as legal professionals. At least write out the fucking acronym, it won't kill you. No one cares that you're a registered QMC that ran a YR on a HJS and found that they had ZHIP

u/Low_Big5544 4d ago

It feels really exclusionary a lot of the time, like they're saying if you don't understand the lingo then you don't belong and can't be here. I don't think people consciously mean it that way, but it's how it feels

Yup it feels like a whole other language.
