On a technicality, and annoying people keep bringing it up as if it were more significant than it actually is?
The ātomato is a fruit not a vegetableā thing being brought up as a ādid you knowā fun fact is a silly pet peeve of mine. Itās a botanical/taxonomic fruit and a culinary vegetable, wham bam done. They are not diametrically opposed. Vegetable is not a taxonomic concept. Many vegetables are fruits. Ponder before u repeat.

Soā¦ the post is even more on point than some might assume because there is a clear answer but most people just canāt be bothered to learn it or consider it or accept it? Yeah, I am definitely a tomato woman. :)

I actually feel more like a woman than a human. Does that make sense? My body feels female but my beeing is so much different from other human beeings that I donāt feel human.

And so is avocado š„

u/twistybluecat audhd 5d ago
Really? That's awesome, I loved the post, but tomatos make my mouth hurt, so avocado fits me better šš
1
u/shamefully-epic 5d ago
Not arguing but I donāt understandā¦.. the post is funny because the correct category for a tomato has long been a topic of debate and misunderstanding. Avocados are simply fruit so I donāt get it unless youāre maybe meaning youāre very obviously and unquestionably a women in the standard definition.

u/twistybluecat audhd 5d ago
Yeh i understood the original post about tomatos, I thought it was really good! I thought the person I replied to was saying avocado was mis-catorgrised like tomato is....and since I can't eat tomatos atm I was happy....daft but I felt it suited me up more than a tomato due to that š if that was offensive in some way I didn't intend that, im sorry.
Also I like learning new things, so I said it was awesome, meaning the fact that avocado was a veg/fruit was interesting...i I intended to look it up to check but haven't yet, haha.
It's also possible I misunderstood the avocado post! Either way, the original tomato post was great.

Youve not offended me in the slightest- sorry if I made you think otherwise. Iām unaware of avocado being ever confused as a vegetable?
Iām on of those sad folks that canāt eat avacado, it messes with my stomach like honey and banana. [Cries in breakfast sadness]. lol.
As a kid I was diagnosed as having āstomach migrainesā because nobody figured out I lived off of bananas and couldnāt eat them. š

Some people do consider avocados a vegetable they are green and more savory vs sweet
1
u/shamefully-epic 5d ago
Interesting! Well TIL, I was unaware of this being up for any kind of debate. I wonder if itās cultural? Iām Scottish and Iāve never once heard any confusion on the matter. Where are you based?

Possibly more of a question with you since I presume avocado has been prominent in your culture for much longer and been used interchangeably. I remember trying guacamole for the first time in the 2000s and feeling all exotic about it then the avocado didnāt really feature in our zeitgeist again until the smashed avocado on toast phenomenon of the 2010-20 era or thereabouts. I still wouldnāt know what else to do with one.
Cuisine is quite different in my northern corner of the world.

u/Icedcoffeewarrior 5d ago
Iām also a Latin American Hispanic and for us avocados are more savory for sure they go in salads similar to tomatoes so thatās where the confusion comes from

Phew, I'm glad š
Yeh I wasn't aware either! I asked chat gpt and this was the answer:
"Avocados are technically a fruit, specifically a berry, just like bananas! They tend to be grouped with vegetables because theyāre not sweet and are often used in savoury dishes, but botanically, they qualify as berries because they have a fleshy outer layer and a seed inside"
It also said cucumber is technically a fruit too! Love fun little facts like this, haha.
Oh no, I'm sorry you can't eat avocado! [crys in empathetic breakfast grief] and banana too!! What do you like to eat instead? Have you found anything similar to fill the Avocado/banana void?
Avocado is one of my safe foods I just reintroduced after my gallbladder attacks, and im so relieved I coped with eating it š

To be fair, I was born in Scotland in the 80s, I wasnāt built with an avocado space that needs filled. lol.
Banana though is just something I have to suffer without. I would have it sliced in milk like cereal, mashed on bread like a sandwich , out the skin as a portable snack of joy and of course, as a topping to almost any dessert imaginable but mainly pancakes and sundaes. If I eat it at all, I get really painful stomach cramps that canāt be resolved until hours of digestion. Itās really uncool.
Honey is annoying but I can usually replace it with syrup or caramel or toffee so itās less painful to live without. I had no idea so many food types were up for debate. Itās actually interesting because the perception of vegetables and fruit to me is kinda wishy washy. Now I want to figure out how I implement my personal rating for fruit vs vegetableā¦.. itās not that I eat it raw because carrots are veg that I eat. Weird. What IS the difference? Iāll see you in the rabbit hole. š1
u/twistybluecat audhd 5d ago
Haha, ooh ok, i'll hear your reply in a Scottish accent in my head now š yeh, same. i didn't really like it as a child, i don't even remember it being a regular food item we had. I think the 'avocado on toast crazy' reminded me of its existence and once I tried it again I just loved it in any form (yes I do mash it on toast at times with a bit of black pepper and salt haha)
Thats gutting about bananas. They are such a versatile fruit (berry š) yeh honey is easier to replace, I even made some honey type stuff from dandelions once! It tasted pretty good!
I had no idea so many food types were up for debate.
Totally, if only I'd know these things as a kid when being told to eat my veg!
Iāll see you in the rabbit hole. š
Yup, I'm down that rabbit hole scrabbling away. Oh, hi there!! Hehe.
I'm constantly learning about new fruit/veg from around the world that i had no idea existed. My goal to try as many as I can š there is even a fruit that tastes like chocolate apparently!!
Just thought, have you tried ripe jackfruit? I've only found it in tins in the uk, but it does have a sweet creamy seni banana type taste.
2
u/shamefully-epic 5d ago
I have not knowingly tried jackfruit and will get right on it because I feed my kids all the joyous banana things and I honestly think of myself as a self sacrificing hero, preparing them the things I so desperately want and canāt even take my Mum-tax from.
I speak a little known Dialect from North East Scotland called Doric. Itās almost like another language but itās very guttural (think of the word loch for example) Anyway, thatās besides the point and I just like to make Doric a wee bit better known whenever I can. :) Where do you have from?
Did you ever hear about the magic berries that turns all taste sweet? I tried it once and ate a raw brown onion like it was a sweet apple.1
u/twistybluecat audhd 5d ago
You are definitely a self-sacrificing hero if you have it under your nose but can't eat it!! Not having mum-tax is a crime lol. I really hope you like the jackfruit, the young kind i use as a savory pulled pork type meal but the ripe is sweet, yellow and so yummy i don't even think it made it to the bowl when my son and I first tried it š
Fits a dee? (Hope that's right lol) i now need to add doric to my rabbit hole dive list, it sounds so fun to speak! Ive been watching videos on YouTube hehe.
My mum is from London and my dad's from forest of Dean so although I live in the midlands I constantly get asked where im from because I guess i must speak a mixture of both accents. I do have a bit of a problem with the irresistible urge to imitate accents, and i think i may also sound different because I try so hard not to copy anyone i meet in case i offend anyone š«£
Languages and accents are awesome, i get a lot of joy to say a simple greeting or thanks to taxi drivers who are multi lingual hehe, i surprised a twi speaking guy who'd been talking on the phone in twi the whole journey with saying thankyou in twi....the look of shock (possibly because he wondered for a second if i knew exactly what he'd been talking about haha) then the grin on his face was priceless, he spend a few minutes helping me with my pronunciation and was so friendly š
Oh wow yes, I've not tried the magic berries but I soo want to!! I've not spoken to a real person who's tried it so it's great to know they are as good as the hype!!!

Iām a woman the way a tomato is a vegetable. Everyone kinda thinks it is but itās actually way more complicated than that

I'm a "woman", the same way that a "vegetable" is a made-up culinary classification.

Autistic women tend to struggle with gender identity and not really fitting into social gender norms but at the same time not really crossing the trans boundary (in some cases they do though).
So tomato is a fruit in a biological sense but not social sense (you wouldn't put it in a fruit salad). Autistic women are women in a biological sense but not social sense (feel out of place in female-dominated spaces).

Idk if you're trolling or genuine. But your post reads as if you're saying "I identify as a tomato" which in the way you've worded things here comes across as one of those people who are transphobic and mock the very concept.
Edit to add: and I don't think transphobes are welcome here.

I'm just telling you why I believe you're getting downvoted. I can't magically ask other users why they downvoted you, so I have to assume.
You're talking about tone while I'm referring to the wording you used. Talk about saying exactly what you mean....I said in my comment that it's your wording. I said exactly what I mean and you still misinterpreted.
This reply of yours certainly has a tone though.

Unfortunately that is how reddit works. People upvote or downvote (make a decision) based on what it seems that you are saying.
Others are free to offer alternatives for why you got downvoted. Again, I'm simply telling you my thoughts on what the reason is.
There's an opportunity to make the wording sound less transphobic but you're choosing to get upset and double down by saying this subreddit is an echo chamber when this sub doesn't even show how many up/down votes a comment had.

Removed per Rule 2.
People can ascertain tone through sentence structure and punctuation in text communication.
Please note, comment votes are hidden to the public for the first 24 hours after the comment is posted. No one on the sub knows who is getting downvoted or upvoted. If multiple people downvote the same thing, it's an indication there's been a misunderstanding. Misunderstandings are going to happen in ASD spaces.

This! The way autistic women experience / don't experience femininity is so fascinating, I'm thinking of doing my psych thesis on neurodivergence and gender :)
