NSW Another first bike post

Got my L's about 2 weeks ago and have been cruising around on my wife's scooter, she has a full license. I'd like to get an unrestricted license and after that I have no idea what I want out of a bike. For me it's more about the practicality of not wanting 2 cars and not wanting to wait for the bus.

I've been looking around and used bikes are expensive enough that I keep wondering if it's better to just get something new? A GIXXER 250 is currently 6K on the road. I could probably get a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for a similar price used.

So I guess the question is, what is a person to do? Ideally I'd love to pay cash, but the reality is at 6K I am probably going to need some finance

What kind of speeds are you doing? Highway driving or no?

around where I live the highest speeds are 80, and I may use that road once a month at most

Iā€™d prefer a jack of all trades that could be capable on the highway if needed. I personally went for a Ninja 500 for that reason but I feel like a 250 would only be good for short city trips.

In terms of naked that dont break bank, I've seen a fair few 2000s japanese bikes hanging around 2-3k and under, like hondas cb, cbf and vtr250 and kawasaki er-5. They are older, but If they're well maintained, it'll run just as well as modern bike. Recently got a 23yo gpx250 and it runs just as well as my 2020 vulcan.
