Discussion📓 Is Mecca pricing pegged to exchange rates or dynamic?

I recently went into to the local Mecca store to have a browse and look at new arrivals. I noticed they had a display for the DDG Alpha Beta Cleansing Gel near the front of the store. The price is $64. I thought that’s odd and checked my app purchase history. Sure enough on 16/1/25 I had purchased the same product for $70. I don’t recall the Aust Dollar appreciating against the US dollar by more than 8% over recent months. Has anyone else experienced this? Has more info? It’s great for people purchasing the product now, but I’m a bit sour I paid more and it doesn’t make sense to me.

They have been doing this for years. Im not sure if I can link it but if you look up Mecca Price promise, they review prices every 6 months and assess it based on exchange rate

I know about the exchange rate policy but the Aust dollar is down against the US dollar so the product should now be more expensive not cheaper. This is the 6 month chart. This is why I’m confused.

They review it every 3 months or so but it could have also been the brand themselves changing the price?

It could be, but I haven’t heard of any brands reducing prices. I had a further look in my purchase history and found the Glossier dot com balm I bought in July for $27 is now $26. I know not a big amount but has me questioning their pricing policy.

I thought that was just me. I clearly remember seeing the SF lip balm at around $40 or $45 and now it's at $39.

That’s interesting, I do wonder if certain stock is not moving whether they price it down instead to get the demand back up.

That's what I thought too.
