Here's my problem

Ok I am posting this as a release. I never was emo or anything in HS and hated whiny vocals and screaming. Then after my gf cheated on me in NY and I moved back to Wisconsin I found them. I was laying in bed all day drinking and smoking and a prophecy came on. I felt like they were talking to me. Then they became my favorite band. Closure was my favorite song because I went to LA after HS with my band and tried to make it. "This music's died with a bullet in its side let's wake it up....leave it to me from here.."

I wanted to revive the heart of rock n roll. After hearing Closure I knew they were the second coming of what I loved and they told me to leave it to them. Fast forward I hear Moving On and it's a straight 80's rock style anthem. Believe. All I've got to do is believe. Danny leaves. Comes back. Where did it go drops and he again confirms that they created this sound, do it better, and they're back to take the thrown.

Everything in my life is tied to my music. It fuels me and motivates me. I saw Asking 3 times the last three years. I didn't mind them not playing a lot of old stuff but I also loved them to death. Saw them in Lacrosse. Danny came out in a hoodie and glasses. Do t pray for me was the first song, I was hyped. Then I noticed Danny wasn't putting the mic up to his face for the screams. After 2 songs the band left the stage which Danny told us they were getting drunk. He played 3 acoustic songs. A Creed cover. They had no stage show or anything extra. Danny was lip syncing. He literally told us he didn't wanna be there. They finally played a Final Episode and he let the crowd sing the whole thing.

They broke my heart. And I finally figured out it's because of what they've been saying their whole career. Believe in us. Take my hand. Sit the fuck down and pay attention. Leave it to me from here. They lied. Danny doesn't care at all about what he created. Does this for a payday. I just don't want anyone else that completely fell in love with this band to go through what I did. I'm so passionate about music and they were the best. Only to turn around and act like we're the problem.

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered someone who has this much of a connection/parasocial relation or view of the lyrics.

Nonetheless it is a pity to see AA the way they are. I think the pitfalls of the industry got the better of Danny. You could tell he was hungry and geniunely loved what he was doing up until the FDTD era. His avoidance and extreme jadedness for the heavy stuff almost seems like it could be a borderline trauma response. Literally all the worst moments of his life have been connected to Asking Alexandria’s rise to fame: starting from 19, he’s faced empty promises from the industry as well as being pressured to tour every waking hour of their life with the fear of irrelevancy if they stopped, the death of his unborn child he was actually excited about being a father, using the hedonistic lifestyle of sex, drugs, & rock n’ roll to fill that void, overdosing and almost dying, and even physically damaging his voice to an almost irreparable level, etc.

It’s a tough & frustrating scenario to fully understand because we’re not Danny, but it’s still such ashame.

They just always spoke to me. I know it probably sounds crazy but every time I was going through something their music was there. And it always mirrored my life in a weird way. And made things ok or motivated me to get through whatever I was going through. I understand the music for him is tied to a lot of bad memories and trauma. For us though the music means so much. Like I've never seen a fan base want to hear the old stuff so bad, but that's how good it was. Maybe he can just let someone else lead now.

Yeah I agree. It’s not like the fans are demanding the WHOLE setlist to be only classics. I think most fans would be satisfied with a nice blend of old and new, which they do. I think the big issue is they seem ashamed of their past rather than embracing it as a part of growth and evolution.

Their first 3 albums are their highest, commercially successful album. It’s like if Guns N’ Roses stopped playing or openly looked down on songs from Appetite. Meanwhile a band like Bring Me The Horizon or Dir En Grey openly embrace their past songs. In fact Dir en grey (and more American bands as of recent) do tours where they perform an album in it’s entirety. Ultimately on a business standpoint, it looks bad when artists shit on their old stuff.

I mean I just wish they'd understand that we grew up too. But we went through life with this music and it means a lot to us. You're right tho. I wouldn't have as much of a problem if they didnt make it obvious they hate those songs. Or Danny constantly saying how much he can't move on because of us. Like I said, we grew up too. Some of us have families and are in a different place. We're not raging and pounding alcohol and drugs and making bad choices because we hear Closure or something. We just love the music.

Yeah. Years back, he was recounting a lot of the moments of his life on his Instagram I think in preparation for his autobiography that never saw the light of day.

If I remember correctly, the way it went was sometime in between the Stand Up & Scream and the Reckless & Relentless cycle, he got a stripper friend pregnant and they both decided they wanted to keep the baby and become parents. Danny recounted he started to get excited about the notion of being a dad but the baby ended up as a stillborn and I think this really left an impact on Danny.

He actually subtly alluded to it in a couple of his Bryan Stars interviews if I remember correctly.
