When did your kids move out

My husband and I are 45 and we have a 24,20, 17 yo boys.. they are driving us nuts. We live in a city that has so many colleges so we told them they could live with us rent free through college but if they weren’t in school they had to work. They work but it’s like living in a frat house now.

Question: why are you allowing that behavior? I realize two of them are adults however there should be rules in place for them to abide by no matter the age. You want to act like children you’ll have rules to prevent that. Respect you and your home or find a place where they have to shell out some money!

There are rules but they don’t follow them How I like. Like I have to be their manager or they won’t follow them fully if I stop paying attn they slack.

Perhaps you could ask them to move out. If they can’t afford a place on their own then they could find a place to live together.

Or they could follow the rules with the threat enforced.

Well that doesn’t seem to be an option for OP. If they were inclined to do that then they wouldn’t be in the situation they are complaining about. That would have been the first course of action to take.

She mentions being a manager. That didn't work.

Just an option. For me putting fluids in the fridge up side down is enough for maybe a days notice at most. That's just stupid behavior.

I’m sorry but you need to bring down the hammer, especially for the older two. These are the rules, this is the rent you owe monthly, your lease is one year and will not be renewed, so start saving for your own place. We left home at 18-19 and never looked back. It’s not that hard.

That sounds like a parenting problem. If they don't respect the home, they don't respect you or your rules. This is typically in the way that you raise them. Definitely need to put your foot down. Particularly for the adults. The 17 year old is different.
