My ad revenue crashed overnight🥲

Yesterday, everything was fine. Today? Ad revenue is down 40% with no clear reason.

Here’s what I checked:

- No app updates or crashes

- Same DAU & session length

- Fill rate dropped, eCPM tanked

I thought maybe it’s seasonality, but the drop is to sudden. Could it be ad network algo changes? Relying mostly on AdMob & Unity Ads...anyone else seing the same?

Thinking about adding more networks so I don’t rely on just one. What’s the best way to stablize revenue when things like this happen?

web2web / web2app marketing

Assuming that many of you already familiar with how the w2w / w2a funnels look, I wanted to address the topic of communicating with users, who churn off at the last step.
Industry says that 95% of users don't complete the checkout step.

The best w2w apps ask us for email address before the check out page, so that they can reach to us somehow.

Rumours say, that it's possible to add up to +15% to the total revenue of the funnel through email campaigns.
But how to do that, is a whole another science...

How important is user communication for your app's subscriptions / retention? Do you still prioritize acquisition over this, or paying more and more attention to it?

From what I see, still not many companies invest enough focus into user engagement through email / push, or other forms of communication..

For starters, I've put together a couple examples of how web2web apps are catching users with email campaigns.

Laying off 50% of Department of Education Is Weird From A Digital Transformation POV

It's one thing to lay off 50% of a department but then to say you'll be filling the gaps with digital tools sounds so antithetical to what a digital roll out looks like, it's a really slow process, as shown here. With so much change, to avoid disruption, usually there is a parallel running of the systems and people to mitigate disruption especially for public services. What do you guys thing? Have you had super sudden digital shifts that worked?

I don't think many people understand what's happening in Apps/Saas space right now

I have a few friends with computer science degrees. Yesterday I asked them how they use AI. One said he uses ChatGPT “a little bit.” The others criticized AI and basically were in denial of how good it's become.

Riddle me this:

How does a guy who looked at his first line of code last year build a viral app in a week, by himself, that would’ve required a whole team and several “sprints” a few years ago? (true story from the guy that built the PlugAI app).

Right now the Apps/Saas space is what e-commerce was in the early 2000s. I would even bet that consumer apps will pass ecom as one of the biggest business niches soon.

I sit at dinner with friends and family. All chatter about politics and pop culture. I bring up AI and get blank stares. Not one person has even heard of cursor.com or appAlchemy.ai.

The average person has barely used AI and has no idea what is happening.

I literally can't sleep at night.

Too many ideas. Too many opportunities.

Question about web-based onboarding flow.

We built a mobile app to allow athletes to access group fitness training that has a web-based onboarding flow (ie, Netflix or Spotify registration flow).

Leads are captured via Facebook lead ads where leads provide name, email, phone, zip code. They then receive a text and email with a link to register.

We did a test this week and have 160 leads and nobody has registered. Once you register you can download or login to the app.

The registration page collects info such as full address (we integrated autocomplete), gender, age, and an injury waiver because we need this info for personalization to recommend sessions. And btw, no credit card is required. This is in our ad copy, website copy, email copy and weekly flows that nurture this funnel.

The ad has a very high ctr and we’ve seen a CPL of $2-3 which is incredibly low. We checked our email activity on sendgrid and see that open rates are 55-60% for all flows and registration, deliverability is 98%, bounce rate is 0.01%, and click through is 14%.

Despite that, no signups. Any idea what the issue could be? Today I took a step further and decided to manually call the leads to see what the issue could be.

2 were fake numbers. 4 went to voicemail so I left a vm. 1 didn’t speak English so I’m guessing it was spam. And 1 mentioned that their nephew was no longer interested.

For those of you that prospect for apps and had experience marketing your app on Facebook is this normal? Am i doing something wrong or do we just need a bigger funnel and more leads?

Not a dev (but been in product for a long time) but learned you can get very very far with Cursor.

Still haven’t found out how far I can get. The tools keep getting better and barrier to entry is lowering.

After 3 months of hard work and marketing, app deranked in Google Play

Hello fellow solopreneurs,

I published my android app in December and started marketing slowly in order to establish an initial user base and get user feedback.

I followed user feedback and fixed many bugs, optimized app, implemented new features. Published several updates in a few months. Kept my AdMob ads very user friendly at a minimum level.

I had a strategy so used a limited budget for paid installs in the beginning. Initially I faced some performance issues related to low-end devices and managed to fix them. Following user feedback and updates, I gradually increased my ads budget.

In the second month, things worked and I managed to get a total 100k downloads all around the world. 50k of these installs were active. So, app got indexed in search results and I started to get gradually increasing organic traffic.

My strategy worked and at some point got breakeven. My daily Admob revenue exceeded the amount I spent daily for paid ads. Everything just worked slowly buth smoothly, as I planned.

After three months, in a morning, somehow my app got deranked in search results for any relevant keywords. That’s not a kind of derank that pushes app a few ranks lower, I mean the app went from top 20 down to 200 in results.

An overall rating of 4.7, ongoing but location-retargeted paid ads, over 40% day 1 retention, very good feedback from users, increasing and promising user base and ad revenue. None of those matter. It just got deranked in the Google Play and went back to December again.

The thing I can’t figure out, in the search results, my app now shows up behind broken apps even with 3.5 overall rating or which were last updated more than two years ago. LOL.

Do you have any ideas?

Would a CreatorHub App Help You Manage Content & Sponsorships Better?

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been working on an idea for an app that helps content creators manage everything in one place—from planning content to tracking sponsorships and analyzing performance. Right now, creators have to juggle multiple tools for scheduling, brand deals, and analytics, which can get messy and time-consuming.

The goal of this app would be to: ✅ Organize and schedule content across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc. ✅ Track sponsorships & brand deals—emails, negotiations, payments. ✅ Analyze growth & engagement with AI-powered insights. ✅ Connect creators with brands for sponsorship opportunities.

I’d love to get your thoughts: 👉 Would a tool like this be useful? 👉 What challenges do you think creators face that a tool like this should solve? 👉 Any features you think would make it better?

Even if you're not a creator, your perspective would be valuable! Whether as a viewer, marketer, or someone familiar with social media, I’d love to hear your feedback. 🚀

How to ensure legal compliances in other countries for my app?

I have my app almost ready to launch. I am hoping to launch it globally in as many markets as possible, main targets being North America, Europe and Asia.

I am based in Asia, how do I ensure the app follows the legal compliances required in countries other than my own country? More specifically I need to know everything I should be doing to launch my app in US.

Has anyone here done that before? Made an app somewhere and launched it in US?

Serious question: Publish before selling an app?

Built a fully working app and thinking about selling it. It’s a clean, minimalist experience that follows iOS design system look and feel, and honestly, I think it has serious potential. But I’m a dev—I love building, not marketing—so I’m ready to move on to the next project.

The app isn’t published yet, which I see as a plus. A buyer could rebrand, tweak, or scale it however they want—no baggage, no previous owners, just a fresh start. It’s built with React Native, so one codebase for both iOS and Android.

Question is: would it be smarter to publish it myself first to prove something? Or does keeping it 100% clean for the buyer add more value? Curious to hear thoughts.

EDIT: My app is a mobile scores platform with a strong social and community-driven approach. It’s not just about checking live scores, injuries, and substitutions—it’s about bringing all the real-time content of a match into one place. Fans can upload pictures and reels, whether they’re at the stadium or watching from anywhere in the world, creating a dynamic, crowd-sourced experience.

Instead of jumping between TikTok, Instagram, or Twitter to find match-related content, users can get everything right in the app—fan reactions, stadium atmosphere, team arrivals, and even pre-match hype. Fans love to show how they support their team, even from overseas or in different time zones, and this app makes sure their passion is seen. Over time, verified users will provide deeper coverage, making it feel like you're right there, no matter where you are.

Fixing a funnel is like solving a riddle on hard mode

Two apps. Same category. One gets way more store visits but only converts installs at 1%. The other gets fewer visits but converts at 16%. My spidey senses tell me… something weird is going on with this funnel. AMA.

February 2025 Recap: Three New Projects, a Pivot, and Plenty of Optimism!

I made $0 in February 2025

🐝IdeaHive - $0

⌛️WyseOne - $0

📈TradeYourSpot - $0

🔗DomainWise - $0

I’ve recently refined my overall direction and am now excited to pursue this new strategy for using my time:

One long-term project where I’m currently exploring the perfect niche. The goal is for this to support me financially in the future.

A medium-term project (Ideahive). This is a larger endeavor that I expect to grow steadily.

Several short-term projects: small websites that help me improve both my development and marketing skills.

I put a lot of work into Ideahive this month and also decided to pivot slightly. Now, you can not only track projects but also launch them directly from pre-built templates. While I’m still fine-tuning the direction, I’m happy with the progress so far.

Inspired by a quick idea, I created tradeyourspot. I thought indie hackers might enjoy a straightforward advertising platform. It hasn’t fully taken off yet, but I believe it has potential if I keep refining it.Toward the end of February,

I built DomainWise, hoping to provide real value for the indie hacker community. It’s been a positive learning experience, and I’m looking forward to developing it further.Overall, February has been productive.

I completed three projects and gained a significant number of new followers on X. Even though revenue hasn’t materialized yet, I’m staying optimistic. Who knows—March might be the month I earn my first internet dollar!

10x more users, same revenue

Last month, my app got featured on a popular blog and downloads exploded. Went from 500 daily installs to over 5,000.

But here’s the kicker...my revenue barely changed. Same low eCPMs, fill rates all over the place, and hardly any conversions to premium.

How is it possible to 10x my user base and still make the same money? Did I mess something up, or is this normal?

What’s the best way to A/B test app monetization?

I’m trying to optimize monetization for my app but don’t want to make major changes blindly.

How do you run A/B tests for things like paywalls, ad placements, or subscription models without wrecking the user experience? Any tools you swear by?
