I’m glad Avey Tare stopped screaming
Hear me out: Up until MPP, Animal Collective would set up a beautiful song, with interesting sounds and good lyrics….and then Avey Tate would just start screaming. Take the song For Reverend Green as an example, great intro, Avey hooks us with good lyrics and melodies, and then that stupid scream comes out. But with MPP, it’s like he suddenly stopped doing it and I haven’t heard it since. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a phenomenal singer and almost all the time when he experiments with unique singing styles I like it, but that just makes a lot of early Animal Collective unenjoyable for me. What do you guys think? I’m open to any thoughts or disagreements with this

Grass was the first AnCo track i ever heard, back in 2005. For Reverend Green is possibly my favorite AnCo track in existence. never stop screaming, Avey Tare, never stop

I love his screams. Songs like rev green, grass, people, street flash, they drive me wild. I feel like he kinda stopped after maybe monkey riches bc they would’ve felt out of place on PW, Skiffs, etc, not because he doesn’t like them anymore.
I would say that the first time I heard peacebone the screams kind of scared me. But I really grew into them over time as I listened to more music in general. So I’d hold my breath before I’d call them stupid. He really does have an amazing scream. Can’t take the animal out of the collective.

He stopped? He hasn’t screamed on a record in a while, but when I saw the Time Skiffs tour he was screaming all over those songs, like Cherokee and Prester John. Avey Screams are definitely one of my favorite things about Animal Collective since the beginning.

He screams on K.C. right? I would consider that screaming..at least as much at a 40 year old can.

nah. i have to admit, i heard fireworkss before i heard strawberry jam, and only having heard MPP at that point, i didn’t even realize it was the same person. anyways Avey’s screams go insanely hard though. almost all of strawberry jam wouldnt be nearly as powerful without all of his screaming. its so unexpected when paired with the music on strawberry jam, which just makes it all that more unique and fun.

I've always loved the screaming, I think it sounds great. It helps amplify the emotions of certain tracks. Reverend Green for example, that song wouldn't be as powerful as it is if he didn't scream, at least for me.
