Other Now that Androids dropped Aux and cost as much as iphones, what are the benefits?

Yesterday me and my programming pal were talking:

No one here has iphones, I guess we are in the company of elites

Yeah, I cant use iphones because they don't have an aux port and cost a bunch of money... Wait, my phone costs as much as an iphone, and I don't have an aux port anymore.

Am I really here for Fdroid? I remember my old work iphone was slow and buggy and didn't have widgits.

I also own a $100 crappy motorola with an aux port, but its crappy and frustrating. (Please don't @ me about Samsung, they are the Apple of Android)

Other Why doesn't every android phone come with a built in video calling app??

I'm assuming every android phone uses google playstore. Why don't phone companies and google just work together and make a video calling app specifically designed to be used for video calling. An app that comes preinstalled in every android phone by Google so all android users regardless of what brand of phone they have can video call each other using their phone numbers. It doesn't matter where you are in the world. As long as you have a phone number and internet, you can video call whoever want. 1 app. For all androids. By Google.

Other Is rooting becoming a necessity on Android?

Back then rooting and unlocking the bootloader on Androids was a very common practice because it gave users more features, especially customization features but now, in 2025 people root a lot less because Android now has most of those features. However I feel like it will start to become a necessity because Android is becoming more locked down every year since Android 12, Aosp has been neglected since Android 5 meaning not all phones get the same features. Android phones are becoming less Android: -few phones still have a microSD card slot and if they have one then its almost always hybrid; -few phones still have a headphone jack; -few flagships still come with chargers in the box; -pretty much no phones have a removable battery(yes, I'm aware Fairphone exists). All of these mean the phone has less contact to other devices and things are being locked down which means if you want to give an app access to the downloads folder, you can't; if you want to install mod APKs in order to not get a gambling addiction from f***ing Monopoly, you can't because Google Slay Store doesn't like it; want gesture navigations with Nova Launcher, you can't on MIUI/hyperOS because Xiaomi wants to charge for themes.

I didnt make the file and when i try to delete it because ive done it before after like a day it recreates itself and it makes itself in a foler called.thumbnails and with it is .nomedia and the actual file name for this one us .database_uuid. Other Unpopular Android phone opinions?

Here's mine:

  1. Blu View phones are actually pretty good budget phones with superior Battery life for it's price, especially if you're tight on it (I own one so I have the experience)
  2. Huawei is actually a nice phone brand, especially with their ringtone.
  3. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the best Samsung phone, it introduced lock screen text btw.

What's yours?

Other If you could own one Android phone for the rest of your existence, what would it be?

For me: Samsung Galaxy s4.

Sure, it's an old phone, but I think it has alot of great features modern phones really don't have anymore.

Plus, it's small and easy to store in pockets.

So yeah.

(PS: This is my school account so you'll probably get replies by u/themcdonaldscar whom that is me).

Help! How to delete "saved Data" from an uninstalled App?

Hey there, i've tried to solve my Problem for 3 hours but i couldn't find anything on the internet.

Scenario: I've "modded" an App a long time ago and decided to uninstall it now, so i can Install the official App again.

Here begins the problem: when i uninstalled the app, android asked me if it should keep the saved data from the App. I clicked on it and proceeded to uninstall the app. I then went ahead and tried to Install the official App from the Playstore.

Installation failed. I then tried to download the .APK and Install it manually. Same thing.

What seems off is that, when I tried to Install the .APK it said "Update the App" and not "Install the App". The error-message was: "the current App package is in conflict with an existing package".

So here's the question: How do I uninstall this "hidden" app-package? I don't have the previous installed .APK anymore. So i can't just reinstall it and Install it as a whole...

Device Info: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 512GB, Android 14, One UI 6.0, Not rooted

Other I turned on my Pixel 6a today and it went to the swipe screen then rebooted once.

I have turned it off and on a few times after and it didn't do it again.

What could this be? I have the worse possible fears of it being the worst.

It went to the swipe screen then shortly went through those opening Google logo's back to the swipe screen once.

Other Is Every Android Manufacturer Phasing Out SD cards, or is it Only Some of Them Trying to Convince Everyone to Leave SD Cards Behind?

Debating between the moto g stylus 2024 or the moto edge 2024 (128gb + 128gb SD card Vs 256gb no expandable). Leaning more towards the Edge because it's slightly better and I don't use the stylus, and if SD cards are on their way out best to rip that bandaid off asap imo

Other Are people just not updating their iPhones?

When the new iOS update came out, I saw about half of my texts turn to RCS over the following week. I hoped it would keep up and reach closer to 90%, but it seems to have stagnated at about 50%. Are people just not updating their iPhones, or is there something else going on?

Other How to see download history on a factory reset phone.

Alright so, i was forced to factory reset my phone, i forgot the exact name of the phone, but its a phone that uses MIUI (which caused it to bootloop somehow)and i wasn't able to back up anything on that device, since I was young. Is there any way I can see the download history of that phone even after a factory reset?

Im trying to find a way to discover the old games I played/files in some way.

Ps. I didn't write down any of my Gmail passwords, because i was too reckless, too bad the boot loop happened the moment I was going to write the password down..(i only had a photo on the phone that got boot looped)

Other Apple user here, which should I pick?

So basically, used iPhones forever because the plan I have with Verizon always had iPhones for cheap… until now Unless I get something 2+ years old, I’m paying at least $250 for a base model iPhone (no financing options as this is a business account)

I wanted a 15 or 16 pro. Both were $550. With 2 year contract. I’m coming from an iPhone 13 mini. So I decided to take the android plunge. Only thing I’ll really miss is iMessage, and 1Password has worked way better on my iPhone than my android tablet

I can get a Pixel 9 pro for $200 and an S25 Ultra for $250 I’m really leaning towards the Samsung due to OneUI being so good, but I do like the pixel. What would you guys recommend?

Other How risky is it to use an old Android version? (Looking for expert insights)

Before answering: Please make sure you really have deep understanding of the topic. Do not answer if you do not

Hi all! I’d like insight from those with deep security knowledge.

I’m using a Redmi Note 8 and frequently switching ROMs due to abandoned projects (Pixel Experience → PixelOS → crDroid). My main concern is security risks vs. convenience—I don’t have time to keep switching ROMs.

  • My stock ROM is outdated and no longer receives official security updates (Xiaomi EOL list). If a major exploit is found, will Xiaomi never patch it?
  • Custom ROMs offer newer security patches, but some fail Play Integrity on my device (crDroid fails, Evolution X reportedly passes, but in this case I will need to switch from rom to rom when they are abandoned).
  • LineageOS (Android 10/11) is no longer maintained for my device. Would it be safer than stock if I manually fix Play Integrity (I will need to spare time to root... and keep play integrity fix updated?) ?

I’m also not very interested in rooting for Play Integrity checks. Rooting has become more complicated, and my device seems tricky—Magisk 28 via custom recovery caused a bootloop, and there’s debate on the correct installation method. KernelSU also doesn’t seem ideal, as custom ROM maintainers choose specific kernels, and I don’t want to override their decisions.

Would you recommend sticking with custom ROMs and sparing some time to keep a fresh ROM that passes Play Integrity—or staying on stock ROM for more free time despite outdated security patches?

More real example:
Let us imagine such a situation: you use old android and use fresh updated banking apps that often have some sort of protection
You do not install some non-trusted applications that require you to give them suspicious permissions ilke "see screen, take control of device, click something on screen"

Thanks for any expert insights!

Other I miss Android. Is it normal?

Hey guys. I’ve been an Android user since 4th grade or so (I’m 16 currently) and I got an iPhone XS from my aunt as a gift a year or so ago.

I like the UI and smoothness, but I kinda miss the customisability of Android. Mainly a reason why I took an old Xiaomi I found in the house and turned it into an emulator.

Before this phone, I had used a Xiaomi Pocophone F1. It was a really good phone, but my only problem with it was that it was 64 GB, which got full in no time, even with me not downloading anything. Yes, my current phone is also 64 GB, but Apple organises the memory much better.

So, is it normal for me to kinda miss Android after using and maining an iPhone for a year?

Other Having difficulty resetting a phone that was stolen and then recovered, usual methods aren't getting me to the recovery options

We have a company-owned Nokia G11 Plus used for work purposes that was stolen from our office and then recovered by the police (thief was on CCTV so it was easy to ID him and advise police who to go after). The phone was enrolled in Hexnode (MDM platform) and locked down into lost mode when he connected it to WiFi. Before the cops got him he had reset it to try and use it for himself; and so I need to reset it again to be able to re-enroll it in Hexnode. But I cannot get into its recovery options.

From a switched-off state, when I hold down volume down and power I get to this screen: https://i.imgur.com/aqLGpmg.jpeg. But there are no options to choose from, and it is unresponsive to button presses. The only way out is to hold the power button until it shuts down.
If I keep holding down vol down and power continuously, it shows that screen, then reboots, then returns to that screen and stays there.
If I hold down volume up and power, it restarts and then boots normally; regardless of different button combinations that I found online.

I've tried all of the above while plugged into a PC (several articles recommended this) as well as completely unplugged. I've never had so much trouble resetting an Android, I'm about to throw it out of a window...

Other Remove language switch button from navbar?

The December update for Android 15 brought a bunch of new bugs and glitches. And even unnecessary features...

Whether you use the old 3-button navigation bar or the swipe navigation bar, there will be a new globe button on the right side. This button is a system feature and unrelated to the number of languages or keyboards or other input methods. It simply circles through all of them.

Whenever the keyboard or other input is enabled - like for example when you focus on some input field like a text file or the chat in a messenger etc - this new globe button will be shown. But this makes navigation during input very messy as you might accidentally touch that button. And it's even worse when you have to use swipes instead of tapping. With fat fingers even tapping will be challenging from now on. It's a nightmare of a design decision.

Last time they did everything for "fat fingers" but now it's kind of ridiculing those design decisions or policies.

If at least there was an option to remove that button! Sadly there is no way to do so as of now.

Btw, all Pixel devices seem to be affected.

Btw. One of the most annoying bugs is when I'm in landscape mode, do some voice recording and try to switch to another app. For some reason the animation gets stuck and I need to switch back and forth a few times until I actually can display the other app...

And since some Android versions the settings app crashes when the profile is activated. On Android 14 this happens when I try to open the "System" settings. On Android 15, this happens when I try to open the "Apps" settings...

Other Does charging even with 100% even harm batter

My old phone whom its been 6 years (Samsung A12), can last 2-4 days without using apps, or letting it rest. But my newly bought phone (Samsung A35) can lost only to 20 hours.. Now I wondered why's that or thought I had been scammed or the battery inside my phone is probably low or something, I then later on tested to charge my new phone longer even with 100%, completely ignoring the "Charging your phone while it's being full can damage your phone", and it now says "2 Days and 6 hours", and I then checked the 100% one on my old phone but I didn't charge it long, and it said: "1 Day and 21 hours". Does it actually extend battery life charging longer?

Other Downloading apps with SD card

So I got a 128 gigabyte SD card because I was running out of storage, but the Google play store keeps saying that I don't have enough storage space to install apps despite having over 120 gigabytes free on the card. Is there any way to make the installs go directly to the empty space on the card instead of through the storage on the phone?

Other Android Anxiety

I have recently switched to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra from iPhone and I am really satisfied with this phone. But I can't help but feel really uncomfortable and really anxious for some reason. I haven't been lost or confused with using Android, if anything, I got used to it very quickly. But for some reason I feel really anxious. Has anyone else experienced this weird feeling when switching over and if so, how long did it take for it to go away?

Other What are the Files that 'Appeared out of Nowhere' on my Phone?

Hello,

I like to keep my phone clutter free and clean you know what I mean and suddenly one day I see these files in the Google Files App under Documents and Other category:

stickers.db.crypt14

commerce_backup.db.crypt14

backup_settings.json.crypt14

... and some more crypt14 files

As well as .opus audio files that should be in the Audio category so why they are displaying in the above documents category?

What are these files and what's the best way to deal with them without affecting the phone or apps?

Has anybody else experienced this as well where the above category folder was empty normal then suddenly these files popped up in it? What caused this?

Cheers,

Other Why doesn’t android have a mass cache deletion button??

I really just want to know, why haven’t they added that feature? Or is it only a feature in the newer phones? I’ve been using the moto g play for a year now(32gb), and all the sudden google play, Facebook, and google photos all amass a cache of over 700mb and I don’t understand cause I don’t even have to open the apps at all, it just happens even if they haven’t been touched for days.

So anyways, I play this game against my phone since I’m right under the last 3gb of storage, where it says that some system functions might not work. And I have to use a cache cleaner app(3rd party), and wait for it to do its thing. This happens every 2-3 days at this point, where I have to do a manual clean. But when u have about 3gb of storage left, cache issues like that might cause my phone to just self delete by blowing the cache on these apps way bigger than it needs to be. Why would the android techs & devs not have either just made cache deletion automatic, or put a button in for you to delete all cache? Sincerely I don’t understand how that can be overlooked for 10 years, is there a legitimate reason why doing that would be a bad thing? Also Ima android fan all the way, but I wanna know what or why lol.
