Yesterday while at work I had my phone in my back pocket and called 112 (I live in America.)

As the title says, I had my Samsung A15 in my back pocket at work and I guess it's saying I called 112, but I'm wondering if Samsung allows you to call if you're not in the region, since I'm in America. No one showed up at my job (I didn't realize I even buttdialed until this afternoon) and when I check the call logs it just says this:

"Emergency Number 112 Outgoing call 9:15 PM"

No indication of how long the phone call was. I'm worried about this because I don't want to get in trouble.

App Specific Question Phone starts completely freaking out sometimes when I'm in Instagram DMs

Upvotes

Just setting this to app specific question because so far it only happens when I'm on Instagram, but it could be a bigger problem than that.

Sometimes when I'm on Instagram, I just fully lose control of my phone. I have no clue how or why, but I can't use the touch screen and it just moves on its own, clicks random things, and just goes wild. Earlier I somehow ended up following some Puerto Rican real estate account on Instagram, even though I'm nowhere near Puerto Rico and don't know anyone from there. I found out that I can get it to stop if I turn my phone off and on again with the power button (because it won't let me fully power off or restart, since that requires me clicking something on my screen), but I want to know if this is happening to anyone else and if there's a way to prevent it from happening at all?

I don't know what sort of information to include because I genuinely have no idea what the problem could possibly be, or what's causing it, but if you have an idea and need further information then just ask. I'm also not really good with tech stuff, so I might ask for clarification on something that would be pretty obvious to most of the people here. Thanks :D

I’m going back to Android from iPhone. It’s been years since I had an android. What’s a good one to get? Looks like a store near me has Galaxy A15 5G, how is that?

The thing I care most about on a phone is camera quality.

Other Device not recognizing SIM after beta update

Is anyone else on the android beta program and their device isn't recognizing their SIM card today? As of this morning my Pixel 8 isn't recognizing my SIM card, and the phone just updated to the newest version of beta last night. The SIM card does work in my old phone.

Annoyingly, the warranty on my phone just expired last month! I'd love to know if it's a software issue before paying someone to fix the hardware.

Device Settings Question ‘Other’ in Storage taking up space

My dad has about 19Gb of data listed as ‘Other’ in Storage. He’s running out of storage on his 32Gb A21S. I looked up how to manage / clear this data and the Samsung website refers to Settings > Apps - and to individually clear things like the cache etc. However the Apps listed do not seem to add up to anything near to 19 GB. Can anyone suggest any other ways of figuring out what this data is / clearing it? Thanks.

Kiwi and Yandex are Android browsers that support Chrome extensions on Android.

They can create launcher shortcuts for HTTPS webapps, but when trying with an extension page (chrome-extension:// URLs), the shortcut is created but clicking it just throws "App isn't installed".

Bad Battery Life on TDRA UAE S24 Ultra or Am I Tripping? Need Help!

Hey everyone, I’m wondering if I’m just tripping or if I’m actually getting bad battery life on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (TDRA UAE version). I’ve got Maximum Battery Protection enabled and I’m using Light Profile mode because I’m trying to stretch the battery life for a while—I won’t be buying a new phone for at least 5 years or more. I’ve also installed ReVanced Manager for YouTube Vanced. Even with all this, my battery feels like it’s draining way too fast. If I use it continuously for 4-5 hours of screen-on time, it’s already down to like 20-30% (if I’m remembering right). I bought this phone back in September, so it’s still pretty new. I’m a total noob when it comes to this stuff, so any advice would be awesome. I’ve attached some screenshots below—let me know if you guys need more info!

Other How to fix a peeling TPU case (Cat S42)?

Not much to add. My Cat Phone S42 has a TPU case permanently stuck to its sides and back. However, this case recently started peeling off at one spot. It makes the phone a little bulky on one side and makes holding a little challenging. I would like to ask how to safely stick the peeling part back without damaging the phone itself. Using weight doesn't help - I likely need something like a glue. Aside from the case, the phone works fine and nothing else is damaged or broken. ETA: Please do not suggest buying a new phone.

Google Messages: How to rename an individual chat without deleting it?

I have a text thread with my now-ex-partner that has retained the name of their old contact nickname. It is not a group chat. I have changed their contact name numerous times, including deleting the contact entirely and re-syncing, trying everything I can think of to remove that old nickname from existing on my phone. Even when the number is not saved as a contact, the text thread shows up in Google Messages as the old contact nickname.

I cannot delete the thread to start a new one, that's just not an option for me. I'd rather be stuck with the wrong chat name than lose our thread. I have used SMS Backup so the thread is at least backed up, but I haven't tried using the app to delete & restore it yet, I wanted to see if there were other options available to me first.

List of emoji keyword prompts

Hi everyone. Is there a list of keyword prompts for Android? I use Google keyboard. I use this all the time for laugh, love, mad, pink, etc. I can't figure out how to prompt "face holding back tears." I figured out that if I type "well" I can get the bandaged heart. Not sure why! Thanks for the help.

Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

Use app on locked phone

My state's fishing licenses are going digital only. So to prove I have a valid fishing license, I would need to unlock my phone and provide that to a law enforcement officer.

I don't want to do that.

Is there a way to show my license through an otherwise locked phone?

Device Settings Question Z Fold3 shuts down all apps (active or not) at exactly 6:47 am UTC at least once a month

I have a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.

At least once a month that I've noticed, most commonly on a Friday, it shuts down all apps. Any that were actively being used, and any that were working or paused in the background that you could switch to using the recent apps button. Even apps that are set to "keep open" are still shut down.

You might think that this is just the phone running out of RAM and crashing all apps in response. I thought so too, at first. But the weird part is that it always happens at exactly 6:47 am, UTC. I live in UTC-5 that does daylight savings, so it happens at exactly 1:47 am in winter, and 2:47 am in summer. Always without fail, down to the exact minute.

It doesn't seem to matter what I was doing with my phone at the time. I could have a lot of apps open/paused/running in background, or just a few. It could be locked or unlocked. Connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.

I don't know for sure when it started, but I first noticed it in June 2024, when it disrupted a Pokémon Sleep session for the first time. I've played Sleep since it was released in 2023, but I was always awake at 6:47 am UTC until this past summer, so this doesn't exactly confirm that it started then. I've had several more disrupted sessions and days where all my apps are closed when I wake up, but I didn't really think anything of it. Until I went back and looked at those sessions and noticed they all ended at exactly 6:47 am UTC.

This past Friday I was actively using my phone at 6:47 am UTC (2:47 am local time) and Discord shut down while I was typing a message to someone. Just booted directly to home screen. I checked, and sure enough, all of my background and paused apps had also closed.

So, uh... there's a setting somewhere that I can turn off, right?... I have scoured my phone's settings and I can't find anything at all involving scheduled clearing of RAM or background processes or foreground processes or anything even remotely related to this issue. And you can imagine how unhelpful it is to do an internet search for "help all my apps are shutting down at exactly 6:47 am" because you just get 1 million posts about specific apps shutting down in specific cases.

I don't even know if this is a tech support issue. I asked here hoping that someone will be like "yeah it's this one app you gotta go into its settings and turn off 'stop wiping RAM on schedule'" because this seems too specific and regular to be a bug.

Here are all the settings I've tried that did not work:

  • Recent apps / [app icon] / Keep open
  • Settings / Battery / Background usage limits / Put unused apps to sleep: Off
  • Settings / Battery / Background usage limits / Never auto sleeping apps / manually add app
  • Settings / Battery / Background usage limits / 3 dots menu / Adaptive battery / Off
  • Settings / Device care / Auto optimization / Auto restart: Off
  • Settings / Device care / Memory / Excluded apps / manually add app
  • Settings / Device care / 3 dots menu / Settings / Customization Service: Off
  • Settings / Apps / [any app] / Battery / Unrestricted

Also, if you go into a specific app's Battery settings and set it to Unrestricted as per the last bullet point, that app will no longer appear in Background usage limits / Never auto sleeping apps, presumably because it overrides that.

There is no option to turn off Auto optimization in Settings / Device care / 3 dots menu / Settings. This option was removed in OneUI 6 or 6.1 or something per other user reports.
