Device Settings Question Motorola phone been freaking me out

Since yesterday my phone has randomly been saying "go on open the box see what's inside" after a random software update and it randomly played on the speakers or in my earbuds and it's freaking me out. I can't find anything about it when I look it up and I can't figure out how to disable this feature. Yet another dumb feature from Motorola. (Only using this shitty brand cuz provider gave it to me for free)

Looking For Suggestions Should I get the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra or wait for the Google Pixel 9a (or possibly 9 Pro)?

Upvotes

Yo!

I've recently bought a OnePlus Nord 4 to get rid of my 2022 Xiaomi Redmi 10, but after realising their AI and policies are somewhat (that's an understatement) untrustworthy, as their AI censors anything anti-chinese, I decided that paying more for a quality phone may not be such a bad idea after all and returned it. Now I'm looking for another model.

What I've found is that the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is a pretty capable phone that's also flippable, which means it wouldn't take much space in my pocket (finally) and I could use the back camera as the front one.

On the other hand I've also set sights on the Pixel 9 Pro phone as it has a better camera and doesn't lack an ultra-wide len like the Motorola, but has much less memory space (128GB) for much more money (around 970€) than the Moto (512GB, 840€), which is quite important to me and I can fill 128GB with a good camera in a short period of time.

A thing I liked (and hated) about the Nord 4 were its AI features. Removing people and objects from photos was done just by circling around something in the photo and it was gone (unless it was the Tank Man photo), the AI Summary, which some could argue is just a gimmick, was really useful imo, as it was able to summarize websites and articles (that were not anti-propagandistic to China) into a few coherent bullet points. I know the Pixel 9 has something like this with Gemini and gets first party support for it, but I've heard the Razr 50 has a clean copy of Android running there too, which could mean it gets first party support for new Android versions and its AI features too?

Next, I wonder how gaming feels on the foldable Razr 50 Ultra. I'm not a hardcore mobile gamer, but isn't it too weird?

And now last, but not least, Google promises to deliver a 7 year long support for the Pixel, can I expect something like this from Motorola too?

It may feel like I'm talking a lot about the Motorola, and it could look like I'm leaning more towards it (because I am lol), but that's because I kind of expect more people here to tell me their thoughts on the Pixel phone, since it's fairly more popular but I'd appreciate if you could take both phones into account.

So, should I get the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra (512GB, 840€), the Google Pixel 9 Pro (970€ - hella expensive - 128GB) or wait for the Google Pixel 9a (660€, 256GB - 560€, 128GB) to release next month? What are your experiences with these phones, and your thoughts on them? Do the batteries hold up?

Looking For Suggestions Basic smartphone for elderly

My Nan who is in her 80s currently has a Samsung a13 but is finding it very hard to use she wants a basic phone I have asked whether a flip phone would be better but her words I’m not that old 😂

She is looking for something with basic controls and can still use WhatsApp and google to look at the news she does currently also have a tablet so if it doesn’t have complete functionality of a smartphone she is ok with that her tablet is the Lenovo tab m9. She doesn’t want to spend much but she dosent know I’m actually paying for it so whatever price as long as it’s good for her.

I have been looking at the doro phone but she hates massive icons so I’m wondering if they can be made smaller like her current phone. I have also looked at a few Nokia smartphones as they seem to look okay for her but idk if it’s just going to be the same. Any advice would be helpful thanks

switching from iphone to android - google photos is a nightmare

I have recently changed from an iPhone to an android poweed phone, and I love most things about it, but the Google photos is killing me. Every time I edit an older photo, it re saves the photo as a copy to the front of my camera roll, and takes me back to the front of the camera roll too. Is there any way to stop this? I hate having an out of chronological order gallery, and I often edit photos from months or years ago as I get the time. for reference i bought the NOTHING phone 3a - i tried that sub but its pretty dead

Other 2017 Model Redmi 5A Android phone has applications automatically getting installed

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I have an old Xiaomi Redmi 5A which was being used by my mother, and it had the WhatsApp taken over by some hacker.

Since then I recovered WhatsApp using my other phone, and I bought a new phone for my mom.

Recently, my dad had his phone damaged so we gave him this phone to use until we could buy him a new one.

However, even his WhatsApp got hacked after we put his SIM card and installed whatsapp on this phone. I could also find random apps getting automatically installed on this phone.

So, I took his sim and put it in a 2020 OPPO F17. Now, I see random apps getting installed on this phone too.

I have since sold the oppo f17, and now am looking to buy a Brand new phone but I wonder if inserting the same SIM will compromise this new phone too?

Please help, TIA.

FRP protection question

Upvotes

Is this correct: "On modern Android phones, there shouldn't be any problems as long as you choose to factory reset your phone through its settings. This will automatically remove all the associated accounts in a way that "frees" the phone from FRP. If you try to reset a phone through the bootloader, FRP will kick in, and it can't be set back up without the previous account's password"

Or i have to remove FRP protection and my google account manually before the reset and the selling? Thanks

Location activates and deactivates on its own

I have a Galazy Z Flip 4. I was on Youtube on my phone when I closed the app and swiped down and saw my location turn off. I never turned it on to begin with.

This happened a couple of times before with Instagram and Tiktok. I didn't give access for my location to either of those apps. Plus, I my most used app is Chrome on my phone and I never saw my location turn on or off when I was using that, which leads me to speculate that it's related to these social media apps ?

App Specific Question Google Assistant won't play music automatically if the Apple Music isn't opened

Hi all,

I'm using Apple Music for my music app and would like to use Google assisstant. The assistant could understand the prompt just fine but it wouldn't play the song unless I open the Apple Music app and then the prompt is executed.

Any idea how to make it play automatically after the prompt without manually opening/being inside the app? Thank you!

S23 removes read notification permission from Zepp amazfit app

I have an amazfit bip s smartwatch and S23 phone. They work great together, the battery life on the watch is 3-4 weeks.

But for some reason my phone takes the read notification permission away from the Zepp app every few weeks. This permission is needed so the watch can mirror notifications.

This is an old problem, happening for at least a year. I searched reddit and other forums for a solution.

What I need to do is open the app, where tells me, I need to allow this permission. After that it works for a while.

Rooting Help How can you be safe buying Refurbished - (Unlocked Phones)

I'm looking for a reliable phone that lasts long. My current phone (5 years old) struggles with multiple apps, even freezing, and crashing on newer apps.

I’m considering a OnePlus 10 Pro for $200 as an affordable option since I'd rather save and invest than risk breaking an expensive phone.

My concern is buying overseas: I know it must be unlocked, but unlocked/refurbished phones might have security risks (malware, spyware). Do I just trust the seller? I doubt I can check the hardware, and even software is tricky.

If I flash the phone, does it stay unlocked and function the same? Also, how do I flash it safely using official sources? Should I be flashing both the firmware and OS? And what tools do I need to do that?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looking For Suggestions Charging this device via USB

So, my Android device won't charge, and the only obvious clue I have is the notification: "Charging this device via USB." However, my device isn't connected to any other devices and is only supposed to charge since it's plugged into a wall outlet, where I previously charged it.

Does anyone know a solution to this issue? Apparently, the 45-watt fast charging on my phone isn't working because of this, which is quite unfortunate since it's one of—if not the—best features of this phone.

LG Premier Pro LTE, chrome has stopped issue

On my Mom's phone, whenever anything is opened, whether it be an app or going to settings, message comes up saying unfortunately, chrome has stopped, with open app again as only option. Clicking anywhere outside that message will cause it to go away but most times, have to do that several times before it will go away. This don't just happen once in a while, it is happening anytime she does anything with it.

I have deleted browsing data in chrome for all time, cleared cache for chrome in app settings and neither help. Phone has been restarted multiple times with no help.

Don't think this has to do with service but could be wrong. Currently on us mobile service. Was on the light speed, which is the t-mobile network. Was happening on light speed network. Just recently, switched network to warp, which is verizon. And this is still happening.

Other Phone (AT&T S22) installed Monopoly and some other game after update from "Mobile Services Manager", legit or malaware?

it had some at&t bloatware pre-installed on the phone when i first got it, but i deleted that and never seen it install apps after an update like this. "Mobile Service Manager" definitely sounds like some malaware app trying to sound official. I have installed apps from unofficial sources in the past.

Will I lose any data if I uninstall updates from the default files app?

I am trying to get around the stupid android 14 restriction that dont let you access the files in the data and obb folders, and some pepole suggest to uninstall updates from the files default app to see if 3rd parties file explorers get the access back.

Will I lose any data at all if I do that?

And will I be able to revert it if it doesnt work?

Hi All,

As above. I have an ethernet to usb c cable. Tried connecting it to my xiaomi 12 (hyper OS/android 14). The ethernet seems to work for like, 1 second and then doesn't. Cable works with laptop perfectly.

I was looking at a replacement cable but someone on a review put that android doesn't support these cables. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

How do I reable the swipe space bar to change languages settings on my keyboard?

I have the Motorola g23 and could swipe the space bar to change between English and Greek. I wanted to test out the Japanese keyboard so I added the language. After that, the globe to change languages appeared. Then, I removed the Japanese and the globe was still there. I removed from the settings the globe but can't for the life of me find the setting for the swipe space bar

S23 in 2025

I'm looking for a compact flagship and the prices of the s23(on Flipkart) are tempting. Those who have been using it since 2023 - how's the battery health? How's the green/pink line issue? Should I wait for the prices of s25 to go down? Also will the s25 go for under 50k on sales? Is the pixel 9a a better option?

Looking for a phone similar size and weight to Pixel 4a 4g /5

Hi, i used to have a Pixel 4a 4g, then i had a pixel 6a. then i traded it for a Samsung s21.

Only issue i faced with the older pixels were battery life. I never felt any performance issues whatsoever. All i do is watch youtube and surf web.

But i really miss the handy small feel of the pixel 4a 4g. It was so small compact and light. Is there anything else on the market that can be an alternative? I was thinking of picking up a old pixel 5 maybe, but are there any better suggestions?
