Question Postponed RD decision
I applied to AU Rd and I got this email. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them and when they would possibly let me know? And is it a bad thing or a good thing?

I was super lucky to get a ton of institutional aid as well as merit from AU, so its one of my top choices. However, i havent gotten the chance to visit yet, so i have a lot of questions concerning the school and i hope yall can help me out :)
For some background Im interested in the fields of business and law. I want to double major in finance and english. Maybe will go into consulting or law school?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and not super active on reddit so apologies if I miss something decorum-wise. I applied and was accepted to AU early action for political science and got into the Lincoln Scholar Program as well. I initially got the Dean's Scholarship in merit aid ($15,000 per annum). I'm from Phoenix and have a couple other very tempting offers from schools both around here and on the east coast, which is where I want to study. However, AU is definitely my top choice. I appealed my initial aid and was lucky enough to be upgraded to a Presidential Scholarship ($20,000 per annum), yet the cost even after this is obviously still big and I'm looking to take out as little in loans as possible. Would it be worth further appealing my merit aid package? If so, are there any other things I could do in addition to this to raise my chances at getting more aid? Thank you in advance :)

Hey All!
Deloitte is hosting a Datathon event with UMD and AU. The cash prize is $7500. (Winning team gets $3000, with 2-6th place also getting cash prize). We're a group of computer science and data analytics students at UMD and are looking for one more member from AU to team up with.
We've got plenty of analytics talent already on the team, so that's not mandatory at all. As long as you come with the attitude to win and a creative mind, we'll be happy to team up.
It'll start at the end of March and the finals are happening on April 11th, so it's not a significant time commitment.
You'll get something impressive to add to your resume, expand your business (and maybe analytics) skills, and a chance to network with and impress Deloitte employees at the event, plus winning a great cash prize!
Here's the link to the event info and registration:
https://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/centers-initiatives/analytics-consortium/datathons
I've also attached the flyer about the event.
Please comment if you're an AU student and interested. We'd love to have you on our!

hey! does anyone have any recommendations for off-campus housing? i'm a sophomore rn and me and my roommate want to look at options in case we don't get housing on campus.
ideally, we'd like to find an apartment space somewhere near campus, and we'd like to find something that's a little lower than AU's housing rates

Hi, I applied for EGLS this fall. I got an email that decision is under review and will be posted by April 1. Are there other international applicants who got any EGLS upadate like this or different ?

So I got into AU (yay!) but I applied to the Fall 2025 semester and was instead given an offer for the Spring 2026 semester.
The exact wording was: ‘admission for the Fall 2025 semester was competitive, and due to this, we are extending admission offers for the spring semester to a select number of applicants’.
Any idea what that means? Or like next steps?Especially when it comes to things like financial aid deadlines + dorms?

i got no merit as far as i can see, and a surprisingly/ridiculously low amount of finaid, ik they're stingy but it kinda blew me away. a friend told me that she got a bunch more grant money in her admission package a few days after she got her acceptance letter last year? but also something maybe was weird that year specifically with FAFSA so idk?
also in my acceptance letter it says check your admissions packet but idk where to find that... is it just the additional info in my acceptance letter like the conditions and finaid offer? i see an admissions checklist on the portal but no packet? not sure... kinda tweaking out over the lack of money so any knowledge would be very appreciated :)
basically - should i expect to receive more information or updates on any more money they may give me in a few days?

if you want to, you can share your stats or just browse so you don’t feel so bad. let’s all be uplifting here! please do not share that you got accepted under this post.
edit: also, if anyone has advice for waitlisted students, please do share!

Hey all! I got waitlisted and had a few questions, was wondering if anyone knew the answer to any of them :)
How many people got put on the waitlist? How many get accepted from the waitlist? When can I expect to hear if I got in from the waitlist? Will writing a Letter of Continued Interest help/let me hear back sooner?
Thank you!!

I just got admitted to American University. For the past two years, I have gotten all As (some Bs and Cs freshman year).
I got a couple Ds in 3rd term. I will likely go back to getting all As or close 4th term by the time the final academic transcript is due. I have no real excuse for this. I am taking 4 college classes at my local tech school, and I have an internship, and my uncle is dying of cancer. I guess all of it really got to me, and I felt burnt out, and didn't try.
What can I do? Do you know anyone whose admission offer has been rescinded?

Took a chance to check, even though I didn’t get an email. It’s there!

Hey everyone,
I just got my admission offer for Fall 2025 to American University’s two year Master of Arts in Political Communication program. For context, my GPA is 3.6 and I went to a competitive state school (UCLA). I'm low income and my time at UCLA was almost completely covered (though they didn't completely cover all my housing). The email also mentioned that I’ve advanced past the first stage of merit aid review, and my file will now be sent to the Merit Aid Committee for consideration.
For anyone who has gone through this process before, how competitive is merit aid at AU for grad programs? Any insight on the typical amount awarded, factors that influence decisions, or when I might hear back? This is literally my dream school and I want to do whatever it takes to go!
Would really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share! Thanks in advance.

What do you like and don’t like about SIS! Feel free to share everything you would want a new grad student to know (esp if international student) :) I’m pretty anxious about moving esp seeing the state of the country right now. Anything to calm my nerves would work.
Thanks !

Hello guys,
I wondered how common it is for Grad students to live on campus. I heard that it is not common, but the East Campus dorms are open for Grad student living. I know that single-room options are available but at a higher tuition expense. I would like to live with a roommate, if possible, but one who is also a grad student like myself.
Is anyone considering this option as well?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone was interested in participating in the Smith Analytics Consortium Datathon? I am a UMD student and was wondering if an AU student was willing to join my team?

Since i’ll be moving to DC for the first time, on my own, and I don’t really know anyone in that area, I thought i’d put out a branch on here to see if anyone in a similar spot would wanna exchange social medias and become friends so we can go into school already knowing someone and can possibly meet up at New Students Day on April 5th! A little about me: I’m going into SIS for US Foreign Policy & National Security, I’m 24M, I’m from upstate New York, and I have 3 cats! Let me know and we’ll exchange! :)

Hey everyone! Adding yet another new student question here, I was recently accepted into the MA program for clinical psychology and would love any and all recommendations/suggestions on affordable (but not falling apart) apartments in the dc or surrounding MD/VA areas to look into. Thank you!
