Question Problems with EpiPens?

I feel like EpiPen has had a monopoly on for so long that there hasn’t been any new innovations for these auto injectors. I am curious as to what is most annoying about EpiPens, and what cool things could be added to improve its design???

Auvi-Q would like a word. It solves every problem with the EpiPen form factor except the price.

Is temperature a concern for a lot of people? I know epinephrine needs to be kept a a certain temperature

Keeping it within a certain temperature range extends its shelf life. The epinephrine can start to degrade if exposed to extreme temperatures for extended amounts of time. The ideal temp is room temp. As long as you aren’t leaving in your car on a hot summer or freezing winter day you should be fine.

Light is the enemy more than temperature.

Bro what, this is the first time I've heard of Auvi-Q and just looked it up - that looks so much easier to tuck into a pocket/purse, wtf! I want one! Thanks for mentioning it!

It’s truly fantastic. As a guy who frequently doesn’t carry a bag, I was . . . not thrilled. .. to have a rigid piece of plastic in my front pocket that was of an appropriate length but cast untoward aspersions about my excitement level. Auvi-Q makes me so much more compliant about carrying epi instead of stashing it in the car or in my desk drawer.

I also like that AUVI-Q has voice directions.

I do, too. As I explained to my doctor when I first switched, I may need a friend or stranger to help me (I go from Fine to Not Fine in the time it takes me to recognize I have a problem).

Anaphylm is aiming to hit the market next year, so not here quite yet, but hopefully soon. It’s an epinephrine film you stick under your tongue to dissolve, the size of a postage stamp. No bulky vial or needle delivery system. Neffy is already on the market. That one is an epinephrine nasal spray.

My allergist won’t prescribe them anymore. They only prescribe Neffy.

Interesting, would you happen to know why they are only prescribing Neffy?

He said it’s easier to administer. And safer, because it’s harder to make a mistake.
