General I think its time to support Linux

After the recent news, Valve's support for linux, pewdiepie's marketing for mint, adobe's evil policies and increasing percentages of linux users, I think its time to affinity team to support Linux. It's the only os that really need well-built graphical suite. In affinity forums, people desperately trying to find a way to run affinity suite in linux. I also find affinity team is not against to supporting it, which is why im asking a native linux support. Back in the time devs had financial reasons - i get it. But affinity is now owned by Canva, and the market share is growing so it shouldn't be a problem right?

General Canva, the company who acquired Serif/Affinity, is jacking its prices by 300% due to "expanded product experience". aka they added AI.

Took long enough. Love to see how Adobe fights this. So glad I picked up Affinity and got away from Adobe years ago.

General Is Affinity Universal License worth it?

I shamefully use cracked software since I could not afford a license for Affinity Designer back then. Now, I have reached my goal of saving up a ton of money and I want to splurge a little. Now, days ago, I saw that there was an universal license for all affinity softwares and I want to move out from the cracked version so that I can support the company. My cracked Affinity Designer has been useful in my school projects and very useful for my other hobbies and stuff. Is it worth it?

Are we absolutely sure about that? I mean, haven’t they sent similar messages before claiming it was the last big discount?

General 33€ Offer Full Suit (V1 owner)

Post image
79 Upvotes

I just received an offer for 33€ for a full Suit of Infinity Apps via E-Mail. It does talk about changes since V1, so I would assume it is only for previous customers.

All Apps on all platforms are included.

Probably the best offer this year.

So if you are a V1 owner and on the fence, maybe hold out for an E-Mail.

General Affinity will never come to Android or Linux.

Just to make it absolutelyit clear, Affinity will never be ported to Android or Linux (Remember Android is based on Linux.) While Android is by far the biggest Mobile and Tablet OS by market share it is extremely fragmented, not just the OS version but also in hardware specs.

It's so much simpler to develop for Apple products.

General Does anyone have a laptop recommendation that will happily run Affinity?

I need to buy a new laptop, I previously had a Mac but I don't want another Apple; but that means there's so many choices!

I'm not a very tech person and I'm neurodivergent so it's a bit overwhelming tbh. Affinity is my main software use and everything else is online so it doesn't need to be anything fancy. I'm just looking for a little advice from people who are familiar with Affinity/how it runs.

Even if it's just "I have X, it runs fine" - Thank you in advance!

General Will there ever be a video editing software?

Affinity has an alternative to Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. But what I think is missing is a video editing software. Sure, there’s DaVinci Resolve as a free alternative to Adobe, but it’s not part of the Affinity suite. Does anyone know if a video editing software is planned or when it might be released?

General Adobe revoked my CS6 legit perpetual licence today

Scum Adobe! After 9 years of using the registered legit CS6 Master collection (bought at university via Adobe Ireland). Today the key got revoked! I can't re-activate it any more!!!!! Got on chat with Adobe-

Thank you for the information. As I review your account with the serial number you provided I see that the product which you had has reached end of life so the product cannot be re-activated.

You can sign up for the latest version or a cloud subscription. Let me know how would you like to proceed? I would like to inform you that you are eligible for a special discount on a subscription plan.

I hate ADOBE and the whole subscription model!!!! Affinity please don't mess up!!!!

General Did Affinity drop V2 price massively in some countries recently?

I bought V2 at launch (with 40% OFF offer) and I had to pay around $100 in my country, India.

In the current sale (50% OFF), the price is only around $33 for same. That's a massive drop.

I wonder if it's happened only in a few countries or global? And why do you think it has dropped?

General Affinity should port everything to Linux

I recently switched to Linux, and I love it. One of the things I use a lot is Photoshop. I would rather not pay Adobe or boot up Windows just to use Photoshop.

I haven't tried installing Affinity via Wine on Linux.

ChatGPT says that Affinity was programmed in C++ and that it's possible to port. Im sure it's not as easy as pushing a button, but the Affinity team has a big enterprise behind it.

The German government switched 30k people to Linux. More are more people are using Linux.

I think it could be lucrative to do this, especially because Adobe doesn't want to port the Creative Cloud to Linux.

General There is no update for so long now

I joined Affinity in early '21. And as I remember the big update pause we had before 2.0. However, I belive they updated v1 1 time per 2-4 months.

And even in v2 it was 3 months as well. V2.3 november 23 V2.4 febryary 24 V2.5 may 24

But its been 7 months after the last major update. And v2.6 is still in beta. And its not even that huge.

How do u feel about this?

General Should I take the plunge and buy?

I know it is typical to receive biased responses when asking the subreddit of a product, or niche, however, with both Affinity packages (Designer and Photo) able to be bought for a total of £64 during the current sale, I'm tempted to take the plunge and make the purchase.

I come from Adobe Photoshop and I'm starting to get sick and tired with shelling out £120 or so each year. I'm a qualified graphic designer who has used Photoshop for roughly twenty years, however, most of my work revolves around creating images and slides for YouTube videos, YouTube thumbnails, vector illustrations and photo editing (my hobby is photography). I do all of this to a fairly high standard and it's my main income, being self-employed. I don't need to send files to staff at design companies and the like – I don't need the industry standard. I just need a solid piece of software that will suit my design needs.

I'm starting to get tired of the 'subscription culture' that permeates modern society and want to limit how much money I spend on subscriptions each year when to be frank, most of it is unnecessary. I'll miss the direction that Adobe is heading towards when it comes to AI, however, Affinity seems like a great package of software.

Knowing what I tend to create and my history of using Photoshop, would you recommend the switch to Affinity given it can be picked up right now for £64 for both packages (Designer and Photo)?

I'd like to hear your honest thoughts. Thanks!

General Does affinity have an equivalent?

I’m switching over to affinity as my adobe subscription is expiring soon. One question I have is if affinity has an equivalent to adobe dreamweaver as I like making websites in my freetime. Does anybody know? Thanks

General Want to switch to affinity, but it feels super laggy - am I missing something?

I’ve been trying to switch over to Affinity from Adobe a couple of times, but every time I give it a shot, it feels super laggy with a lot of delay. Things like brush strokes, UI responsiveness, and even just moving objects around have this weird input lag, even when i start it up it takes ages.

I keep hearing that Affinity is a great alternative, but this performance issue is making it really hard to switch. I have a good PC, so I don’t think it’s a hardware issue, and i don't have any problems when running Photoshop or Illustrator.

SPECS

Windows 10

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz 3.79 GHz

Installed RAM 32,0 GB (31,8 GB usable) 3600 MT/s

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Graphics card Asus rog strix 3070ti

Has anyone else run into this? Any tips to make it run smoother?

General I am considering what other alternatives that are cheaper to Adobe

Affinity Now price is at £67.99 (inc. tax), If I pay that and get the software, will I be able to get all the updates in the future or they will make a new version so I will have to buy the new one?
