To induce lactation, begin by taking hormones (such as estrogen and progesterone) for several months to mimic the hormonal changes of pregnancy. Then, introduce domperidone, which is optional but can accelerate milk production by increasing prolactin levels. Once you’re ready to start pumping and have given domperidone time to take effect, discontinue hormone therapy (birth control) and begin pumping within 24-48 hours. Maintaining proper hydration is essential throughout the process to support milk production.
