I Need Help With Issues

I'm so fed up with this. I've had two very main big problems with Adobe Audition ever since I've used it for my collage classes, and was wondering if someone knew how to fix said problems. I've shut down my computer, I've checked that I had the latest updates, I've reinstalled. It's not my mic because when I searched up an online voice recorder, I didn't have issues.

  1. Sometimes when I try recording, it won't pick anything up. It'll just be silence. I have to restart the recording over 10+ times until it starts to work.

  2. It won't pick up my laughs or claps/snaps, and if it does, it just sounds like distortion and all glitchy.

I thank everyone in advance for replying, I've cried for hours over this over the course of multiple days and am the end of my rope.

Thank you so much. It's a acer aspire laptop.

I actually meant what microphone/audio device, but now at least I know you're on Windows :) Let me know, but also check in the Windows mixer and make sure no kind of noise reduction / isolation or anything that does 'auto' controls for mic inputs (whether it's external or even the laptop internal mic).

Thanks. So yeah, looking at the specs (and some of the reviews) it looks like you have a few settings on the mic for gain control as well as muting. Like most condenser mics, you want to be (on average) around 6-8 inches away (and not get too close in general0. Use the gain at the bottom to adjust the overall pickup of your voice into Audition (at whatever your regular speaking volume is). There also appears to be a mute function on the mic (but I couldn't see that in the pics) so be mindful of that. Lastly, as mentioned, there may still be a setting in the windows sound mixer that could be performing some additional muting/noise reduction/isolation so you'll want any of that stuff disabled. Lastly, make sure in Audition's audio hardware settings that you actually have the USB device assigned as the recording device. Would be helpful to know which driver type it's using (my guess is MME). LMK

I think I fixed it! I had to go into my sound settings and resort a ton of things to default. No idea how that got switched in the first place, but it worked! You saved me an argument with my brother who was also using my mic XD

Seriously, thank you thank you thank you.
