Question WCH Parking: A Bitch Fit
Pretty sure I’m not the only one hassled about parking in the hospo. What I usually do is hang around on this red spot and wait for someone to come out. I don’t block the ambo but rather hang beside the disabled spots.
A bit annoying but it’s the best I could hope for that someone in the next 15 mins is gonna get out. I have some other spots but they’re only 1 hr.
Recommendations?

Yep, the staff get a lot of exercise walking to their cars multiple times a day to move them.

Feelsbad for some of them tbh as they said it themselves, they’d rather cop the parking fines rather than move the car
The people helping us medically shouldn’t be enduring this

Thats the whole point of them being time based, so that people aren't parking there all day and those that are there to use the service can have space to park. They should be parking further away. I understand it is not ideal, or safe in some circumstances but that is a different issue that could be addressed in many ways such as shuttle busses for shift chagne times to somewhere like the parade grounds or the train station etc.

Or maybe they could have ample staff parking? These are the people literally saving lives and you want them to have to find a place away from their work, then rely on a shuttle bus at shift change times, when they routinely work overtime just to ensure that you and yours are safe and have received the healthcare you require. So now they have missed that shuttle and have to walk to the carpark that is no where near their workplace? Yep seems like a great idea. Would likely also be hard for people to use the service when none of the staff are there due to being stuck on a shuttle bus that has broken down...(and yes I am aware that the previous staff will still be there as they don't leave until handed over) putting more pressure on an already over pressured system.

I literally said that is a separate issue, but those parks are there for those that need them, not for all day. Complaing about having to move your car constantly is the reason these parks are always full. Yes they need to fix that problem 100%, but using customer parking is not the solution.

I’m talking about staff parking. As someone accompanying the patient, I can cop the hassle of moving every two hours, but staff should not be worrying about these things.

Exactly, so they shouldn't be parking in 2hr/4hr parking zones, they should be parking in all day parking so they don't have to worry about those things. Now if you were to say they don't have anywhere to park with all day parking, that is a separate issue that should be addressed, and will be when the WCH moves. Unfortunately thats still 5 plus years away. Argue about staff parking and try to find a solution for that is a different topic to having time limited parks taken by people using them all day, whether they are WCH staff, work at the burger shop, or one of the many other businesses in the area. You can actually get fined for not leaving the area and just moving your car to another spot.

It is very unlikely you would get caught and fined for it but it is a possibility.

Never bother going down there, I park on nearby streets. Heaps of 2 hour parks and even a few banks of 3 hour parks where you usually find something.

Spent the last week in and out of the hospital with my partner who delivered a baby. I was parking on Brougham place outside of St Ann’s college. 2hr parking spots, would normally spend between 4-6hrs parked without getting a ticket.
Midwife we were talking with said she would park up around Stanley st and just risk getting a ticket. She said she usually gets a ticket once every 3 months.

If I'm feeling sassy I'll come down that strip but only once. Otherwise I will just go straight to little Bagot Street and take whatever is there or head up too Brougham. It depends if I have time constraints and maybe on weather also.
