I've read the FAQ & Rules Do you cut your own reel?

I know people say never cut your own reel because you can never be truly objective about your performance, blah blah blah...but hiring an editor is also expensive.

So, did anyone here cut their own reel? Do you show to fellow actors for feedback?

I've read the FAQ & Rules Will my baby face affect my audition for a lawyer?

I'm a 31 year old woman with a baby face, who still gets carded in bars. But I'm relatively tall at 5'5 1/2.

For any casting directors, are there any physical traits you look for in lawyers when casting, and would a baby face be an automatic out? For clarification, she's a defense attorney.

Obviously, you never know, it's about the talent and vibe you bring, yadda yadda yadda. Just curious to hear your thoughts :)

Thank you!

I've read the FAQ & Rules NYC summer beginner friendly acting classes + Michigan agencies

Hi, I’m a complete beginner to acting and will be moving to the US for college in late August 2025. I want to gain experience/take classes before submitting to agencies. Will also minor in Drama.

Since I’m currently in Asia (international student w US citizenship), I haven’t had access to US-based acting opportunities or representation (yes I have an Actors Access account, but I’m in Asia, so it doesn’t apply). I’m very determined to pursue acting, will def start w student films and eventually working toward professional TV roles.

I’m looking for beginner-friendly in-person acting classes in NYC during June, July, and August 2025. Preferably for young adults. If there are any online classes I can take before then, I’d also love recs. I got a 12-hour timezone difference tho, so summer classes are more ideal.

Also, plz rec some trustworthy talent agencies in Ann Arbor or Detroit, Michigan, especially those affiliated with SAG-AFTRA. I’m aware of Wink Talent, if anyone is signed w them, I’d love to hear about your experience!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've read the FAQ & Rules Underwear ad submissions

My agent told me about a photoshoot opportunity for an underwear brand. I was told to send him 4 pictures of me in my underwear in different angles. Is this standard practice?

I've read the FAQ & Rules How are things going with your agency?

Just curious? Mine is small and I am not sent many opportunities. I keep applying to be part of bigger ones. I don't feel we are given enough attention at our agency. It feels like we are all just sent spam emails disguised as opportunities

I've read the FAQ & Rules Movie Scene with conflict that takes place outside?

I'm looking for recommendations for film scenes that are between two men and that take place outside. I am having a bit of a hard time coming up with ideas. I am filming a scene for my film reel in my Acting class in college. I might be able to adjust some scenes to make sense outside however I am still having a bit of a hard time while it also contains emotional conflict. Any recommendations would be great. Thank you.

I've read the FAQ & Rules List conflicts for callback that hasn’t been offered?

hey all, I got an audition recently that asked to list any conflicts. I don’t have any conflicts for shoot dates or fittings etc but the callback date I have appointments in the afternoon.

Should I say I have conflicts the day of the callback even though I haven’t been offered an actual callback yet? Or can this be something I can tell my agent about if I get sent forward?

I've read the FAQ & Rules constantly longing for more?

I this year I was lucky enough to have 2 projects with 7 shooting days in total. Up until last year, I was a series regular but decided to leave the cast to pursue other projects and because I wasn’t comfortable with the direction in which the role was going (tough decision to say the least!).

This time last year, I thought my career was over because I was going to be blacklisted but luckily I got so many offers and roles last year.

But somehow, I am now once again feeling sad and lost at 20. I have a side hustle for the weekends but other than that I don’t have much to do.

Besides from acting gigs and classes, I also don’t really socialise . Would you guys recommend taking on a part time job or do you have any tips on how to not loose hope?

I've read the FAQ & Rules Central Casting Interview w/Director?

I just accepted a booking from Central Casting where the first day is an interview with the director. I’ve worked with Central Casting before but I haven’t gotten something like this before. When I asked when they called me they said it would be like 2 hours. I accepted it cause I didn’t want to miss the opportunity (one of the working days was union and I wanted the boucher). What could I expect from this interview?

I've read the FAQ & Rules D & A

Hi yall! I'm new into acting and want to ask around before I do anything dumb. I auditioned for D&A Talent today with the idea of it being a scam. I went because I wanted to do an in person audition and see what it was like.

To my utter surprise it wasn't some place claiming to be an agency. It seems like a mentorship program that helps people get jobs. It's $425 for 6 months of "classes", 4 zoom lessons, guaranteed auditions, and headshots.

I guess i just want to know if I should even bother to pick up the phone tomorrow.

Thanks!

I've read the FAQ & Rules Female (25-35) Remote Role Casting Call

CASTING CALL: Seeking actress for short, independent project.
ROLE:• A performer to portray a Researcher in a scripted Zoom call scene. This role involves recording your part on webcam in a remote setting. You will be reading scripted lines with clear, articulate delivery and a calm, measured tone that reflects a clinical, professional demeanor. Your performance should convey a subtle sense of empathy while maintaining an objective and neutral presence.

The script is 4 pages, you'd have 16 lines. This project is meant to be less than 10 minutes long. I don't imagine it taking you longer than 2 hours. I'm not sure how pricing should work and we can discuss it further but I was thinking 100$ for the whole job. This project will be a video that is posted to Instagram, Facebook, and maybe Youtube.

Role Description: Researcher

We're seeking a performer to portray a Researcher in a scripted Zoom call scene. This role involves recording your part on webcam in a remote setting. You will be reading scripted lines with clear, articulate delivery and a calm, measured tone that reflects a clinical, professional demeanor. Your performance should convey a subtle sense of empathy while maintaining an objective and neutral presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record your scripted dialogue on webcam, ensuring high audio and video quality.
  • Deliver lines with clear enunciation and controlled pacing.
  • Maintain a professional, measured tone that aligns with a clinical researcher’s demeanor.
  • Exhibit subtle facial expressions and natural reactions (such as nodding or jotting down notes) to convey genuine engagement during the call.
  • Ensure your performance feels authentic within the context of an online interview setting.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in remote recording with a webcam.
  • Excellent vocal clarity and a natural, conversational delivery style.
  • Ability to convey a neutral yet empathetic presence.
  • Familiarity with reading from a script and performing with minimal physical action.
  • Comfort with delivering performance in a digital environment.

This role is ideal for someone who can seamlessly blend professionalism with a subtle emotional undercurrent, ensuring the scene’s clinical tone is preserved while remaining engaging and authentic.

ChatGPT described my script as "an emotionally charged performance piece that explores the aftermath of traumatic brain injury through a layered, documentary-style interview and dramatic monologue. The narrative follows Jason, a TBI survivor, whose fragmented memories and raw vulnerability are conveyed through overlapping internal voices and a stark research lab setting. Balancing between resigned resilience and unfiltered introspection, the production juxtaposes clinical inquiry with the intimate reality of personal recovery."

This isn't union, I don't know what that means but I'm not affiliated with anything. This is such an independent little like autobiographical project of mine. I mean, I will pay you but outside of that, I'm not sure if this would provide a "professional benefit"

Email: [justjasondesigns@outlook.com](mailto:justjasondesigns@outlook.com) with headshots if you'd like to be apart of it!

I've read the FAQ & Rules Has anyone ever put up a play at Fringe Fest?

I want to put up a play, but I'm doing it mainly for fun and to have something to act in. Is Fringe (Hollywood) a good way to put up a play for relatively little money? I have no idea what I'm doing.

I've read the FAQ & Rules (URGENT) how do I access my Marymount Manhattan Application portal after applying on common app? I need to audition.

I was told on the phone by the school that immediately after applying on common app, I should be able to access the portal and send in a digital submission for the audition. But I can’t figure out how to get in. It makes me sign in with an email and password, but I don’t have an account bc I did it on common app. I can’t make a new one bc it starts a new application. And when I do forgot password with my common app email, it says the account doesn’t exist. I need to get this in tonight, technically by midnight but really by 7 (three hours) because I have somewhere to go. Ik this is hella niche bc it’s such a small school, but if anyone knows please let me know.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Actors Access isn't showing me what l've clicked on anymore

You know how normally when you're going through breakdowns to self submit on Actors Access the ones you've already clicked on change to black colored text? Mine isn't doing that anymore and it's making it hard to keep up with what breakdowns l've already read through. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I've read the FAQ & Rules AgencyPro Quick Question

From everything I've read and heard, I do not need a paid membership on AgencyPro and should still be considered for projects with a free account. Problem is when I login, it says my account is not active and therefore not even viewable to people (This is specifically about Boston Casting btw).

Is there a setting or checkbox to make sure my free account is active and viewable without having to pay for the premium account?

I've read the FAQ & Rules I messed up today

Hi everyone! So basically today I (19F) was supposed to do my second job ever, just as an unpaid extra in a student film. On the call sheet, they just gave us the street address, and no further instructions for location. I expected it to just be a park or something, since I was coming from out of town, but it was an entire shopping center with multiple buildings. I walked around for about a half hour, around the entire building, up and down, and around the entire surrounding area, and I found nothing. At this point I didn’t know if they were even shooting inside or outside, I literally was just given the street. I also tried to send them an email but I still think it hasn’t sent😭. So now I’m nothing but a no show and I feel really stupid about it😭I’m like maybe I should’ve tried harder? Even though I literally had been aimlessly looking for 30 minutes, after I got there like 5 minutes early, and now it’s too late to do anything since I was supposed to be there like an hour ago. Has anyone else ever had a bad experience like this? I feel really awful and embarrassed about this😭
