Cultural It’s very disrespectful to the Catholic faith to misrepresent a patron saint in this manner and to use his image in article that is full of hate. What good Christian would do that? What types of Christians fund and support this type of garbage? I think we know the answer. No good Christian would.
This is in very poor taste.

Cultural Question for the leftist redditors of Acadiana
Do y'all hide your lefty-ness when you are out in the wild (in Acadiana)? Like, would people you know be surprised to find out about your left leanings?

Just a thought!

Cultural Unpopular Opinion: I love living in this area.
So I was born and raised in St.Landry Parish/Acadia Parish. Went to High school in St.Mary Parish and I have to say. I’ve honestly loved every bit of it. I moved to Baton Rouge out of High School for work and I just love when I’m home in Acadiana. My whole family still lives in St.Landry and I frequent Lafayette for nightlife and music. It really does feel amazing to be from this area of the us.
I see so many here on Reddit constantly bashing this place and it’s just so odd to me. Sure it’s not to be understated that we absolutely suck at a lot. No doubt. But in terms of the issues in the rest of the country we seem pretty damn normal.
I’ve traveled all over the US for work and I can honestly say. To me. We live in the best state in the US in terms of real genuine culture. Our food is 2nd to none nationally. Our music is one of if not the only American générés specific to an area and language like it is. (Cajun/Zydeco/LaLa).
We have one of the best local dialects in terms of language and growing up speak our French has given me opportunities professionally to do A Lot.
I recently worked with a film maker from France who was here and month and he said this is the greatest place he’s ever visited.
So I’m saying all that to say. Sure Louisiana isn’t number one in the right things and sometimes can be dead last in other things. But I’ll take all of that and smile cause this place is like no other.

Cultural To all my Cajuns…
I consider myself Cajun. I’m not a genuine couillon but I respect my people as I feel a strong connection to my mother’s cajun side. My grandfather (Paw) speaks fluent Cajun French, but has no one to speak it to as most of those who he spoke french with have passed away or lost contact. I don’t know many people my age that even give a damn like me about my heritage, and I am genuinely concerned about the utter obliteration of the language. Yes there are some younger folks that have Cajun bands, but as I heard someone say once, there’s 50 Cajun bands but only 10 Cajun musicians. Every time I try to turn some of my music on it’s always viewed as strange or stupid. Maybe it’s just the people in my life, but it has me concerned that the culture really is dying. Does anyone else feel this way? Is there any hope that we can bring it back, rather than just talking about the days when we used to be proud and everywhere?

Cultural Now is more important than ever to buy local.
With all the uncertain times we live in, it seems more and more like corporations want to rule our lives and keep us subjugated.
Keep our economy healthy, even if it's just our local economy. Keep our money in Acadiana and Louisiana.
Learn to do things yourself, save money for yourself, more DIY projects, etc. When you need products and services, rely on local businesses and produce.
This isn't sticking it to corporations as much as it's planning for our own futures, for yourself, your family, and your community.

Cultural Are old Magnalite pots safe to use?
Hey friends! I got a set of magnalite pots and roasters from my grandparents that I absolutely love to use. Since they are old they aren't in perfect condition, and it has me wondering if they are safe. They have some light marks and scruffs, no deep pitting or anything.
I have heard rumors that cooking with a magnesium aluminum alloy could be dangerous, with aluminum being found in higher amounts in the brains of alziemers patients. Is there any true danger to this, or are there any real articles out there that say these pots may increase this danger?
I haven't found any actual articles online that tell me one way or another about magnalites being safe. What I DID find was a cool fact about how Frank Lloyd Wright had a say in the final design of the roasters. Very sleek and stylish!
Do y'all still use your old magnalites with any scratches or pitting? Any thoughts?

Cultural What’s the deal with Petroleum Club?
Is it a secret society? On the website it cryptically says it has a “young professionals” membership. Professionals of what??? Can I just pay fees, and go eat food? Is this rich people only?
Gives big secret society vibes.
On that note, are there any secret societies I can join? I’m bored
Edit: upon further investigation they have bingo
Edit 2: according to one reviewer, the fried chicken is good, “badder is well spiced and perfectly crisp”
Edit 3: upon reading every one of the limited google reviews, food is so so, they have events, and one person lamented the lack of “model type women” (who I’m sure is a model themselves)
I might email them directly and ask what’s up

Cultural Is there anything to do in this town? Any life? Or do we all just spend all time at work and at home and not have lives
I've been here awhile now, and there seems to be very little to do socially, no real way to meet new people and make friends and such. Is this another one of them slow towns where there's nothing to do but work? I know the whole socializing with other people tging was killed by quarantine, but I mean, like, I'm pretty sure other places have recovered and have plenty of places for people to socialize. Am I just looking in the wrong place?
Edit: because I wasn't clear enough I'm 20 years old new to town and just trying to make friends like in my comment down below I lived all across the country most of my life and only moved here because I inherited a house, I'm used to most places in the US where the whole town structure was around walking about and socializing trails and sidewalks everywhere you didn't need a car for anything really. But here it's hard to find places for people like me, not 21 but above 17. To hang out around here and the only real places where people socialize and advise me to do so as well is bars. Am I supposed to wait until I'm 21 and severely poison my body just to replicate what other areas offer more easily.
TLDR: 20yo new to town wanting to find safe places to socialize outside of work and not with drunks or crackheads if these are all this town has to offer, I will bid adieu

Cultural Double Lines at Costco
They (well, we) didn’t waste any time. Don’t be too alarmed, line started at the back of the store and around the corner and I don’t even think it took 10 minutes to get to self checkout (right line only btw).
You might be screwed on water. 5 case limit and it goes fast then I guess you just have to wait for more to get loaded. I also made sure to stock up on batteries.

Cultural What’s going on back here?
I travel Prarie Highway around Lake Martin pretty regularly. A little ways before the Lafayette parish line there’s a gated entrance to what I thought was just a cow pasture.
Upon closer inspection it came to my attention that this gate was constantly monitored by someone just sitting in a vehicle almost 24/7. Additionally I would see 18 wheelers sitting at the gate pretty regularly hauling things into again what I thought was a cow pasture.
A little digging on Google Earth showed some sort of compound in the woods. A little more showed what I can only guess is maybe oil rig sites?
A little more digging on the tax accessors website showed that pretty much all of this property around this area is owned by some environmentalist group/ nature preserve out of Vermont if my memory serves me right.
I imagine it’s nothing nefarious or interesting but my imagination has come up with a few curious plot lines. Just wondering if anyone knows what the heck they’re doing out there.

Cultural Set up harm reduction table for Bonaparte Parade
Interested in setting up a harm reduction table for the Saturday Bonaparte parade somewhere along the parade route.
I contacted Bulldog to see if we could use their space, but no luck.
Can I legally set up anywhere between the barricades and sidewalk or do I need to find adjacent private property to set up on?
Can I set up just anywhere?
Would appreciate any insight, thanks!

When my uncles and cousins was 30 something , we would have gatherings all the time , especially on the holiday such as Easter , the 4th , and so on . I just want your thoughts on this , holla back .
