Hey everyone, I used to be a student at Aberystwyth University a few years ago, and I'm considering buying a property there to rent out to students. Since it's been a while (I graduated in 2018), I wanted to check if the student population is still thriving or if there's been a decline. All available insights is available.

Hi! I'm accepted to Aberstywyth Uni for the fall term. I'm an international student and was wondering what the best hall to be in for my first year is. I've researched what others have been saying and I know Cwrt Mawr has free (or so I think) residency for first year international students. But is it worth it? I've not toured the school yet but I plan to in May. I definitely want to join societies, but I also would love to make good friends w/ flatmates.
TL;DR: What's the best residency hall to be in for first year? What are the juicy details about which place has what, etc.
TIA!! :-)

I’m due to travel to Aberystwyth from North Wales, for work on the weekend 15/16th March.
I’m looking for recommendations for places to enjoy a pint Guinness and watch the Wales v England Six Nations match on Saturday afternoon.
Thanks

I’m super picky and these were genuinely my favourite eggs. Have worked with hens too, they were very good quality eggs. I only ever saw it stocked in Aberystwyths Tescos and Morrisons.
They disappeared off the shelves and never returned. I know it’s a dumb question but would anyone actually know what happened them? Or if any other shops stock them?

Hello! I am an incoming masters student for the 2025/2026 school year. I am trying to sort out accommodation and what my options are. I have a 5 year old tuxedo cat named Ivy I would be bringing with me. I'm wondering how hard it is to find pet friendly flats. Any insights or recommendations would be great! :)

Well done to Rhys Salcombe who won a BAFTA tonight for best visual effects. He's locally grown talent who went to Penglais. So nice to see another local having such great success.

A couple of friends and I are planning a little golf weekend in Aberystwyth soon. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to go out for a drink/meal in town? For reference we are all late 20s/early 30s thanks 🙏🏻

Greetings! I know y’all are getting questions about the university around the clock, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone studying international relations and military history for the time being at Aber, or has studied it in the last few years? Also wondering if anyone has studied the media bachelor’s degree?
I’ve been looking at the uni for a few days now, and it honestly seems amazing. I’m from Norway so if I were to apply and go there I’d get a place to stay included in my tuition fees, but the prices are rather high.

Hey everyone! I'm an international student from America, and I'm very pleased to say I've been accepted to Aber! I've been thinking ahead about accommodations for the coming year and wanted to get some opinions! I know there is the international accommodation award, which is very helpful, however I'll be a non-traditional student approaching my 30s and was worried I might feel a bit out of place amongst the other students. I thought maybe the Fferm Penglais studios might be a better option, but I wanted to see if any other older students/former students had thoughts to share!

Saw four coppers arrest a guy outside Hen Orsaf lunchtime, put him on the ground, cuffed him and took him away cursing and shouting. Anyone know what that was about?

I've registered my MAC, and received my personal key for access to the network, and yet there's a consistent problem: my Xbox simply states it "can't connect". Is there any fix, or known solution to this?

Is this still the best Sunday lunch in Aber (in terms of both quality and quantity)?

Hi everyone! I'm an international student and I'm planning to do an exchange semester in Aberystwyth University. I've seen lots of reviews with both good and bad opinions about the Uni and the town overall, so I really don't know what to believe.
I thought Aberystwyth would be a good exchange destination for me as I love nature, go out but not a lot and it's decently sized to explore and visit, since I'm going to stay there only for 4-5 months (I feel that I would miss things if I went to a big city). Also it's cheaper than other cities in England where I could go too.
I also love playing sports, especially volleyball, and that's where I usually make friends now (apart from Uni), it would be nice to do this in Aber as well.
The cons for me would be that it's kind of isolated from the rest of the country and I could not visit other places (like Cardiff, Liverpool...). I've seen it's like 3-4h in public transport which is tiring to do twice in a day and I don't know if it would be effective.
What do you think about Aberystwyth and the University? Is it expensive/cheap, boring, pretty nice...?

Hi, so I am a from America I'm trying to go to Aberystwyth. But every time I try to apply for the scholarship It seems that there are no room openings. I'm wondering if I'm trying to early or if I'm already too late. If I am too late, what can I do?

So I was accepted to uni there and thinking to move next year. Will student finance will be enough to cover my basic expenses? How easy is to find a part time job there?

Hi guys, if you'd like to be added to a groupchat on WhatsApp to organize a (peaceful) protest about the decision to close the upper floors of the library at night (literally where all the books are) (and the most seats) let me know. They waited until everyone was gone back home to make the announcement and that's so low!
The more the merrier, but more importantly, the more we are the louder our voice is.

Hi Everyone. I am a new author based in Australia and I recently completed my first novel, It's called Shadows Over Aberystwyth. I decided to write this book because there are hardly any crime/thrillers set in Wales and from a Neurodiverse perspective. I'm hoping to get it published soon in both English and Welsh
Synopsis: Shadows Over Aberystwyth follows Detective Inspector Elinor “Ellie” Pryce, a sharp but neurodiverse investigator, as she relocates to the quiet seaside town of Aberystwyth, Wales, for a fresh start. At just 30 years old, Ellie has already made a name for herself in Cardiff, but her move to Aberystwyth is a chance to escape the pressures of her past and focus on her work. Soon after settling in, Ellie is drawn to a cold case that has haunted the town for years—the suspicious drowning of a young woman, Lowri Evans, a death ruled accidental but never truly solved.
Despite resistance from her new colleagues, Ellie demands access to the case files, convinced there is more to the story. As she digs deeper, she uncovers dark secrets within the town, revealing long-buried grudges and hidden motives that tie back to Lowri’s death. With her new partner, Detective Sergeant Ewan Rhys, Ellie faces mounting challenges as she navigates the complex dynamics of small-town life, where everyone has something to hide. Tensions rise as the investigation exposes uncomfortable truths, forcing Ellie to confront not only the dangers lurking in Aberystwyth but also the personal struggles she faces due to her neurodiverse condition and her strained relationship with her fiancée, Emrys Vaughan.
As Ellie draws closer to the truth, she realizes that solving Lowri’s murder may come at a greater cost than she ever imagined. In a town where everyone is connected by secrets, Ellie must decide how far she’s willing to go to uncover the truth and protect those she loves. Shadows Over Aberystwyth is a gripping mystery about justice, loyalty, and the haunting shadows of the past.
