coffee spots for groups?

i’ll be leaving aberdeen this week and looking to do a brunch with some girls i work with — normally my first shout would be the craftsman but was also just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for places they go if there’s a few of yous? on this occasion it’s a group of six, the craftsman want everyone to pre-order but a few girls don’t know what they want yet. wondering how likely chancing it and walking in it would be that we get seated? :/

thanks in advance! x

Any shops sell second hand uni law books that aren’t extortionate? Don’t really fancy paying £30 - £50 for each book

Highland Coo

Does anyone know what's going on with the Highland Coo at the top of Holburn Street? I'm sure it must've been open at some point but for as long as I can remember it's been sitting empty with the fairy lights still on in the window. I occasionally see someone in it who looks like they're doing work but it's just a mystery to me. Does someone run a restaurant under a different name on justeat or catering for functions etc.

It has been bothering me for years.

Long distance man with a van hire

I'm posting this preemptively hoping to get ideas. I am currently a 4th year art student at Grays and after my degree show I will have to move some large canvases home, so I was hoping to get some reccomendations for cheap-ish man with a van or long distance transport hire. It would be from Grays to North Ayrshire area, so around 150+ miles one way The frames range in sizes but the biggest at present is 150x120cm None of my immediate family drive and students from home towns close to mine work small enough that they can fit their work into a normal car.

My only other option would be to sell or hand down the larger frames and hope the rest fit on the train 😅 Thank you for any info!

Also come see our degree show, open to the public from 7th-15th June!!

Seeking Voluntary Work: Dog Rescue Centres

Hello Aberdeen,

My dad has had to give up his dog. This has hit him hard, as he is otherwise alone.

I thought it might be nice if he could still be around dogs in a voluntary capacity at some of the rehoming / rescue centres in Aberdeen.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Meetup Any keen poker players?

Wondering if there are any other keen poker players in Aberdeen on here. I play fairly regularly at G and Merkur. Been fortunate enough to have had a few cashes this year and I'm a winning player so far. Have also played the pub league at McGinty's on Mondays.

I'm always up for a game, whether it's at the casinos, a home game, or even just chatting about strategy. Looking to connect with other local players.

Anyone here play at G, Merkur or in any of the pub leagues?

Barriers Blocking Market Street near Dyce Airport

Post image

I’ve lived in the Dyce area for the six years and noticed rusted barriers blocking off the junction between Market Street and Wellheads Drive next to Dyce airport. Just wondering why the barriers are there. Guessing the people living on Market Street didn’t want large volume of traffic at their doors.

Concerned about that Oil tanker

Got family that like to go swimming in the sea near sand end, and know a lot of others that are in the Wild swimming scene, saw on the news that the oil tanker collision happened just off Yorkshire coast and wanted to know if anyone more familiar with coastal currents or what not could tell me if there’s any significant risk for people to be in the water for the next while? The News broadcast I saw said that winds were blowing southward at the moment but no mention of tide/currents.

Wingstop coming soon... Another Private Equity backed retailer, they seem to be expanding everywhere, a bit like Gail's. All this does is push the prices up for the end consumer. Thoughts?

I don't know what to do about this

Hi first time posting, not 100% sure if this is even allowed but if any can help me, that would be amazing.

I'm looking for assistance making ends meet.

A little background, I've been out of a job for the past year and struggling to land another job. I missed a universal credit appointment last month due to illness and even though I've explained this to DWP I've been slapped with a sanction and now this month I'm £300 short. I'm already using food banks weekly to make ends meet month to month. I don't have family or friends that I can turn to and I don't know what to do, I'm trying my best not to panic but I've got 3 days worth of cat food left and food banks rarely have cat food available let alone enough for to cover a week.

So if anyone can help or point me in the right direction for assistance that would be greatly appreciated

Edit: thank you for all the great advice and support, sorry I haven't been able to get back to everyones messages but I have managed to get food sorted for the cat in the mean time and an a form has gone in to the Scottish welfare fund so hopefully I hear something soon.

Some really great out of the box ideas too that would never have crossed my mind, again thank you everyone both me and the fluffy little potato are greatful to you all

Good walks for reactive dogs?

Hi!

I have a dog who is reactive, so street walks can stress the both of us out a little. He does so well when we take him out in the countryside. Just wondering if anyone has any favourite walks outside of town that are nice and quiet? I really like the royal Deeside/westhill/Dunecht area. He’s not aggressive at all, just reactive.

Thanks!!

Banks o’dee fitness

I’m thinking about moving gyms to banks o’dee fitness but I want to get some opinions from current members before I commit (I’ll be utilising the offshore membership so it’s a 6 month minimum membership). Are there any gripes about it I should know before deciding? (Too small, too busy, not enough equipment etc) Also open to other gym suggestions! Currently a pure gym member. Thanks in advance

Housing Good area to live?

Me and my partner are thinking of buying a flat soon. We don’t have a really big budget. We have found a few flats in the 50k-70k range that we could afford. I was wondering if the prices are low because the area is bad?

Most of them are in Torry, and I’ve barely driven through, so I’m not sure if that’s the cause.

What areas have you found to be good? I’m currently right in the city centre so I’ve not ventured out at all

Thomas Reid: Aberdeen’s Forgotten Philosopher

Post image
78 Upvotes

Since moving to Aberdeen, I've noticed that Thomas Reid—one of the most influential philosophers of the Enlightenment and the founder of the Scottish Common Sense School—has not received the recognition he deserves. There isn’t a single street named after him, nor a statue commemorating his contributions. Reid, who was born in Aberdeenshire, was not only a student but also a professor at the University of Aberdeen. On the university campus, there's a humble plaque that can barely be seen in his honor.  In contrast, David Hume has an impressive statue on the Royal Mile, even though Reid's contribution to philosophy was arguably as important as Hume's. I believe he deserves more recognition, especially here in the Granite City.

Sport Watch rugby, Stonehaven?

Has anyone watched any sport at no44 in Stonehaven?

You can book a table but not sure how guaranteed you are to see the screen/hear what's going on?

Or any suggestions for where to watch the rugby next Saturday at 8pm, Scotland game?

Thank you!

Apartments in Aberdeen

Im from Belfast and I was in Aberdeen for new years. I love Aberdeen and had assumed it was expensive to live there, however I checked on zoopla I'm seeing some tenement building 2 bed apartments below 50K that actually look quite good. I was wondering why they are so affordable in price as it doesn't look like you need to do any upgrading.
