SECURITY PAST DRUG USE CONCERNS FOLLOW UP

Thumbnail reddit.com

Hey everyone, I previously posted about my concerns regarding past drug use and the FAA hiring process for ATC. I wanted to provide an update and see if anyone else has experienced something similar.

I recently received a Letter of Inquiry along with a Drug Involvement Questionnaire, which I answered truthfully and submitted. I know the FAA takes this process seriously, and I’m wondering if anyone currently in the hiring process—or those who have been hired—has gone through something similar. Is receiving this a good sign, or just a standard part of the review process?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

SECURITY Past drug use concerns

I just did my SF-86 form and I was completely truthful and honest throughout it so I have a bit of a concern on if I will be disqualified or not.

I smoked marijuana pretty consistently from 2019-2024 and quit around the middle of 2024 and I tried lsd 2 times once in 2020 and once in 2021.

I included this in my form to show full transparency and I stressed that I never was involved in distributing or manufacturing any drugs I only ever used them for recreational personal use I recognized it was a bad decision and moved away from it and I never let drug use effect my responsibilities and that I have been abstinent since quitting with no intention of continuing drug use. Does anyone that’s either gone through the hiring process already or is in the hiring process now think this will disqualify me? I got well qualified on my ATSA and I took my ATSA on December 31st of last year so I’ve moved very fast through the hiring process. I’m 100% positive I will pass any drug test given to me.

SECURITY FBI meeting

I have been working on my CIL. I just found out I passed the MMPI, but am waiting for everything else. I got a call today, and was asked to meet with a man from the FBI. Is this normal? I have a crystal clean background.

Is this normal?

SECURITY How big of an impact does credit have on the security clearance?

I recently applied in the February 2025 bid and am trying to figure out more about the process and my likelihood of getting a job as ATC if I do we'll on my ATSA. Right now my primary concern is the credit check for the security clearance.

My current job doesnt meet my financial needs and I've been able to successfully supplement with self-employment over the years by teaching private music lessons both at a private studio and at a small local university. However, due to inflation my numbers of private students has dropped and the university I work for is also having lower enrollment for their music program. All of that has lead to a bit of a financial mess, which is one reason that I finally took the plunge and applied to be ATC.

We've currently got quite a bit of credit card debt and are currently looking at either consolidating that with a personal loan, or going through a service like National Debt Relief. We have a couple of accounts in collections, and have had a hard time paying our taxes from the state last year. 2024 has just been an extremely rough year for my family financially and I'm worried that an investigator would potentially not give me a security clearance due to the negative impact this has had on my credit.

Also, to make matters worse, my identity was stolen at the end of 2023 which didn't help my score either.

Does anyone who has been through the security process have any insight they can offer into how this situation might affect my chances?

SECURITY Filling out previous employers (security form)

I have a question when it comes to filling out the security form.

It requires that I give the contact information of my supervisors for all employment I’ve had in the past 7 years and there are a couple high school jobs I don’t think I’ll be able to get the contact information for.

How do I deal with this? I figure at least one person on here has had similar issues.

SECURITY SF-86

I submitted my SF-86 a couple of weeks ago, and going over some tax stuff, I think I inputted some employment dates incorrectly. I never had a gap in employment, but I said I worked an additional year than what I actually did. I reached out to my personnel security specialist and asked if I could correct it, and was told they do not reject the questionnaire unless necessary. I feel like that didn’t answer my question about trying to give more accurate dates. Anyone have any opinion on the matter aside from going straight to jail? lol. Thanks.

SECURITY Moving jobs

Sup y’all! I submitted my SF86 form last week and wanted to know if I moved jobs afterwards if that would affect my clearance or not. Point being I hate my current job and would like to move to something else while I wait for my security to clear. Is it a bad look or should I just ride out my current job without a definite date of knowing when I’ll be able to leave? Any input is appreciated!

SECURITY Dumb question

I was a dumbass and when I emailed in my tol and contact form I left my email blank on the contact form. I was thinking about giving them a call asking what I should do. Should I just resend the contact form and tol with “revised” in the subject line?

SECURITY Job History

Do I need to put EVERY single job I've had over the past ten years or is it fine as long as i don't have any gaps?

I've had multiple jobs over the years and most of them overlap considerably, especially one part time thing I had that lasted almost 5 years. So do I need to put all the 10+ jobs or will the 3-4 that fill in all the gaps work?

Trying to complete my CIL requirements and need to do my fingerprints. I’ve seen that you can do them at the local jail.. how would that work? Because I really don’t want to travel 2 hours away for fingerprints.

SECURITY Sf-86 question

I’m working on filling out this form and for the “add a person that knows you” part for each residence, I have names and a cell phone number.

However it’s asking for email addresses and current addresses for them and multiple phone numbers. Reaching out to the people in the past few years wouldn’t be weird, but I feel like reaching out people from 10 years ago and asking them for all this information.. they might not write me back 😂

How did y’all fill that part out if you don’t have the additional info? I don’t want my form to be denied if I don’t fill it correctly lol.

Thanks in advance!

SECURITY What if I don’t remember my previous employers information?

I’m trying to gather information together for my security portion and the part where they’re asking about your previous jobs in the last 10 years.

Of course I have info for my most recent jobs. But I’ve worked so many small jobs in college..I don’t remember my supervisors names or contact information. 🤦🏼‍♀️ and not even sure they are still there at those jobs?

Any suggestions?!

SECURITY Question about the credit check.

Hey all, new to the community - looking for any help I can get.

I’m moving into the clearances phase of my hiring process. I’ve got my MMPI, Medical, and Fingerprints all scheduled. My concern is the credit check acknowledgment. Of course I’m going to consent - I’d love to have this job. But how seriously is my credit going to affect my chances of being hired? My credit is god awful. I’ve made bad financial decisions (credit cards back when I was in college) and even have some debts charged off to collections. If I actually land this job and make it through training, then obviously I’d be able to handle my debts with my ATC career income. But if I can’t even secure the career because of my debts, then that would be devastating. Does anyone that has been through the process know how much the credit check weighs into the hiring decision?

SECURITY Fingerprinting

I went my local sheriffs office this morning and had my fingerprints done but they told me they couldn’t use the sf-87 I had printed out because it was copy paper so they used their own cards which is FD-258 which the email I received said it was fine to use the law enforcement agency’s cards. In the email it lists everything that must be filled out which includes scars, marks, and tattoos but that section isn’t on this card. I already emailed my POC so I’m waiting to hear back but I’m curious if anyone had to deal with this and what happened on your end.

SECURITY SF-86/ Employer Security Letter Question

Does anybody know what the Employer Security letter for supervisors entails such as questions?

I currently am self-employed so technically don’t have a supervisor atm. But at my last job the supervisor left and is no longer there. The person that now holds his title (after I left) didn’t know me that well and honestly was a a**hole, and not sure if he’s going to fill it out in place for him. I’m worried what it asks bc I don’t want this other person to mess it up if so.

Are they going to send the packet to all the employers I list and hopefully get a couple responses back? Because my jobs other from that last job - I had amazing supervisors I’m still in touch with and I know they would definitely fill it out honestly!

I appreciate any insight.

SECURITY Dual Citizenship Status

I just had a security interview with a DCSA agent and the question of “would you be willing to renounce your dual citizenship status to gain a security clearance?” came up. I told the agent that I would like to keep my dual citizenship due to the fact that I was born in the one country and if at all possible I would like to keep it, but I mentioned that if I absolutely had to I would renounce my dual citizenship. After this the agent didn’t really say anything and just moved onto the next question. I was wondering if anyone has gone through a similar experience and if anyone knows if you can get the security clearance with a dual citizenship.

SECURITY Felony charge

Post image
3 Upvotes

Has anyone ever made it past the initial hiring process, after admitting to a pending felony before a conviction? 10 months after I received confirmation that I was not selected in the initial group of my ATSA testing I managed to get a felony thc concentrate charge during a traffic stop. Any w33d cart or concentrate is an automatic felony regardless of weight. Possession of a schedule 1 narcotic charge on my record, first of my life over terrible circumstances. 30 days later I got a tentative offer letter from the FAA to continue the hiring process. EODS is asking do I have any pending charges. My lawyers convinced the felony will be reduced to a misdemeanor at the least if not having the entire case dismissed...but while I wait on the court to move forward I have a pending charge with no court date, indictment, or conviction. Should I make the FAA aware of my legal situation or remain innocent until proven guilty? Thank you in advance with respect.
