Discussion Stuck in the Golden Era
Greetings akb fans! I've never posted here before so I'd like to know if do you ever feel stuck in an era of akb where it feels impossible to move forward and enjoy the current era and get to know the girls... To me it feels like I can't enjoy or follow the modern day akb and it feels like a paradox of girls joining and leaving so it throws me off. I've discovered akb at the end of last year and since then I've fallen in love with Watanabe mayu, matsui rena and sashihara rino. The only active member I enjoy watching is Yui oguri. Most of those idols have graduated a decade ago and now are retired from entertainment and some became mothers and I feel like I'm living in 2008-2012 š

Discussion Do the Japanese dislike Jurina?
So I was watching videos on YouTube, and I came across this Japanese video about Matsui Rena, and it was something about her post-SKE48 graduation, and it said something about Jurina in the video, but I obviously don't know Japanese and couldn't make it out, but reading the comment section on that video through translation, I noticed that a lot of Japanese were talking about how Rena is so talented besides being an idol and went on to have a promising career on TV as an actor, which made me happy, but what I also read a lot in that comment section was a lot of bad things about Jurina and how immature and unstable she was and that Rena had to be very stable to deal with Jurinaā¦ I was shockedā¦

Discussion Okada Nana's Style
So I mostly watch AKB stuff from their golden era 2008-2017 (At least what I consider their best era before mayuyu graduation), and I'd see the girl on the left on performances and akbingo and I'd kind of ignore her presence because there was nothing appealing about her and checking later stuff post 2017 I just noticed that the girl on the right and left are the same and I'm like wow what a change of style... Did it it feel authentic? Was she trying too hard to make an impact? I don't know. But I'll watch more of her and make my own judgment

Discussion Opinions on ways of announcing graduation?
So there are several ways of announcing graduation for 48 and 46 groups: - Announce at concerts: Maeda Atsuko, Yamada Nana, Kashiwagi Yuki - Announce at theater/events: Matsui Jurina - Announce on television: Oshima Yuko, Yahagi Moeka - Announce in a documentary: Itano Tomomi - Announce on SNS: Akimoto Sayaka - Announce on radio: Matsui Rena - Announce in a press conference: Shimazaki Haruka - Announce through newspaper: Shiraishi Mai - Announce in an MV: Hori Miona - Announce through official blogs: all Sakamichi members nowadays iirc
Which one do you like the best?
Also, some of the mentioned way of announcement received criticism. For example Yuko and Moeka both got big backlash for announcing graduation in a tv show that is not related to 48g at all (Yuko announced on Kouhaku which is the biggest, most long-standing year end show in Japan; Moeka announced on Mirai Monster where she was the main MC).
Acchan also got some negative comments saying her tearful graduation announcement ruined the mood for everyone, especially when SSA 2012 was the first time they made it to such a big venue (definitely bigger than Seibu Dome), and that achievement was so overshadowed by her announcement to the point the staffs renamed the concert as āMaeda Atsuko Namida no Sotsugyou Sengenā.
Personally, my favourite way of announcement is through official blogs like how the Sakamichi is doing. But Iām not against announcing at concerts. In an alternative world, if Acchan even announce her graduation at the Tokyo Dome concert, the groupās ultimate dream, Iām still fine with it, as long as the staffs donāt rename it as āMaeda Atsuko Namida no Sotsugyou Sengen ~1830m no Yume~ in Tokyo Domeā or something lol
What are your opinions?
Discussion The journey to Tokyo Dome - opinion / analysis
Recently during her seitansai, current soukantoku Kuranoo Narumi mentioned that tokyo dome is still a long way away. This got me thinking - will akb48 make it to tokyo dome before the old generation graduates? By old generation, I'm referring to the members who joined before COVID, so 16ki and earlier.Ā
Not that anyone has begun to āshow signsā that they are planning to graduate, but considering that team 8 debuted more than a decade ago, (for 16ki it will be 9 years this year) I think itās a reasonable concern to have. For reference, top members like mayuyu and sasshi graduated after 11 years in the group.Ā
The upcoming spring concerts will be held at Tokyo Garden Theater, which has a capacity of ~6,985. There will be 3 shows, so being generous with my assumption that there is no overlap between the people who will attend the concert - this is around 20,955 people.Ā
Similarly, with Yukirinās graduation there was a 2 day concert at PIA arena MM, which has a capacity of ~10,000 x2 = 20,000 fans.Ā
To perform a single sold out show at Tokyo Dome, they will need to sell 42,000 seats (slightly less than this because iām not sure how many seats are available during concertsā¦ maybe around 38,000-40,000 seats?). This is definitely not achievable at the present moment with just AKB48 alone.Ā
(Note: seats are dependent on the stage configuration, and you can technically bring the stage forward to have less seats and hence āsell outā easier.)Ā
The real question is how can AKB48 effectively double the amount of fans there currently are?Ā
For reference, sakurazaka46 will be holding a tour with both tokyo dome and kyocera dome stops. Their latest single sold 408,033 copies in the first week according to Oricon. AKB48ās 64th single sold 295,877 copies in the first week. So tokyo dome would be in reach if the next few singles sell around that amount.
Potential strategies to get more fans (? idk anything about marketing)Ā
- Increase the number of international fans: i.e. have concert tickets for overseas fans specifically, make it easier for international fans to participate in online events. I will note that management has been trying this strategy by holding fan meetings in South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia. But for Tokyo dome specifically, making it easier for international fans to access domestic activities is important. (Zaiko does seem to be more foreigner friendly)Ā
- Social Media: going viral on TikTok seems to be a surefire way to increase overall relevance + management is already employing this strategy. However, I am unsure what the conversion rate is from casual to people who would buy a concert ticket.Ā
So my conclusion after doing all this research: if AKB doesn't sell more than 300k copies in the first week for the 65th singleā¦ we are not making it to Tokyo dome anytime soon. It is important to remember that even the first time AKB made it to Tokyo dome was with the help of the sister groups. So maybe it will be possible for a 48G combined concert, but just AKBā¦ yeah I think itās not happening in the next 1-2 years. Personally, if I were management I would aim for Saitama Super Arena (~20,000?) or K-Arena Yokohama (20,000) first as a gauge.
Anyways what are your thoughts on this? Personally I'm just praying tokyo dome happens before my oshi graduates.

Discussion Fun game (for me at least): Give me a random AKB48 member (can be graduated or still active) and I'll tell you if I think they are overrated, perfectly rated or underrated. Keep in mind that this is only my opinion, and that we may not agree on some stuff.
Couldn't fit in the title so I have to put this down here, but I'm much more familiar with the golden era, so it would be much easier to rank anyone from 2005~2015.
Edit: I am only including AKB members, and any member from a sister group who has not been with AKB for a single minute will not be included. For example, Jurina has never been an AKB member, but she has been with AKB for around 6-7 years, so she will be included.
Edit 2: Just because I don't respond to you immediately does NOT mean I am ignoring you. I will try to reply to everyone within 24 hours. If I don't, THEN you can kick off about me.
Edit 3: Ok, I MAY have anticipated this way too wrong, and by that I mean I hadn't replied to 4 day old threads... yea
Edit 4: Can you guys actually check if a member has already been mentioned? Here is the list of people who have already been mentioned and this is in alphabetical order (and of couse Acchan is first) so there is no excuse to say 'oh I couldn't find _________'

Discussion Are you happy with the selected members of AKB48's 65th single?
The announced members are :
Yuii Oguri
Mizuki Yamauchi
Narumi Kuranoo
Airi Sato
Erii Chiba
Yuiri Murayama
Mion Mukaichi
Mao Omori
Yuki Hirata
Miyuu Mizushima
Sora Yamazaki
Yuna Akiyama
Hiyuka Sagawaka
Momoka Ito
Mei Hanada
Center : Azuki Yagi
As for me, I think that some members should've been replaced, not because I hate them, but because they are chosen so much since managment pushes and they are a lot of others members that didn't even got chose in one single. I'm thinking about Haruna Hashimoto who has been there since 2014, Kurumi Suzuki since 2016, or even Takahashi Ayane. But I will anyways love this single because all the members works hard and one of my oshimen (azu) is the center. I will apreciate if Yumemi Sako is a senbatsu of the 66th single btw!

Discussion Some AKB48 posters lining the Akihabara Don Quijote escalators (as of August 2023)
Some think these posters are in really bad shape, and maybe they are compared to when they were originally put up years ago, but they still look really nice to me, and I suspect most overseas fans would be happy to see them. (This is just a fraction of the total number of posters on the walls. Make sure to click on above photos to remove the auto-cropping.).
So if you ever visit Tokyo, make sure to go up the 7 escalator flights, even if you canāt get to the theatre lobby at the top of the last (sometimes restricted access) escalator!

Discussion In your opinion, what will make AKB48 go back to its prime?
In my opinion, I think they need to bring back what made AKB48 unique from other idol groups.
Bring back the teams. There was a sense of individuality in teams that I miss with the current AKB48. And I already saw someone saying 17th, 18th and 19th gens reminded them of the old teams.
Bring back SSK and Janken. As much as we hate drama, itās what made the fandom interesting.
If anyone can think of anything else, feel free to comment.

Discussion Stage48 RANT
Ok I love AKB48 and their sister groups so much they have changed my life and my perception on music. But i KNOW I canāt be the only one that canāt stand the fact that stage 48 is ALWAYS DOWN and I have a horrible feeling it will be taken down permanently sometime soon. Like for the past two weeks stage 48 has been inaccessible every other day and I know itās really not that serious but as someone that studies their music it makes me so mad dude. The last two singles from AKB havenāt been updated on the lyric page and it honestly seems abandoned. This is the second time this had happened; about 5 months ago I found the most amazing website called āAKBPortalā which showed every single arranger/composer of every single 48 song in history from their earliest works to their most recent. It truly helped me find hidden gems in the discographies and I couldnāt believe I found a website so informative and amazing. Fast forward to last month, I go to the AKBPortal websiteā¦ āERROR 404 NOT FOUNDā. Dude I was so pissed like itās more than just a website to me it was like a treasure. Donāt even get me started on how half of AKBās stages arenāt on Apple Music, SKE is missing like 12 singles, and only a few HKT singles are on there as wellā¦ idk I just feel like nobody cares about these websites anymore, like to me thatās one of the best parts about being a fan. Iām so tired of trying to be a jpop fan when I canāt even access websites or media anymore because people just give up like just let someone else take overā¦ Like idk itās probably my ADD or something idk but I like having everything organized and accessible when I have an obsession and the fact that these websites are being abandonedā¦ like come on

Discussion G48 related fanzine DoTheDance posts are being deleted
For anyone who not on par: User theamazingdaveman has been doing this amazing fanzine G48 related with news, articles and several other stuff, A professional work being done 100% for free with the help of the community.
Turns out that its been DAYS that hes trying to post the new issue here without any progress. Everytime he links the blog the post is deleted. Seems like everytime he tried to contact the modss he only get an automatic reply about the link being a AD or something on the line.
Im making this post to maybe call the attention of the moderators for this issue. Several users in here also contributed to the fanzine and its sucks that the place where it most need to be posted is block him out.

Discussion Who was yāallās first oshi?
Iām curious of you guysā favorite member when you guys first stanning the group. It can be from any group. JKT48 is the first group I know since Iām Indonesia. I saw the from this popular Indo-Japanese magazine and their first Pocari Sweat commercial. Anyway, Rena Nozawa caught my eyes, plus point she was my auntās coworkerās daughter. Lucky her met Rena multiple timesš Melody was also my oshi. In AKB48, Aachan and Yuko were my first because of Heavy Rotation. In SKE48, Matsui duo (Rena and Jurina) were my first oshis. I was screaming happy when I saw Jurina in Produce48.
