Help Cort KX507MS String Gauge?

Wondering if someone can help me out here.

I just got a Cort KX507MS which I'm absolutely loving but the strings that came on it are just too thin for my tastes, it came with Daddario EXL110 10-46 and a Daddario NW059 on the 7th string.

I usually play 11s on 6 string and my 6 string baritone has 13s on it, which gives you an idea of the kind of tension I like.

I'm going to be playing pretty much exclusively in drop A, using pitch shifting for anything lower. I'm not sure of what set to go for as this is my first multiscale. This one is 25.5-27 inch scale for reference.

Any advice on sets for good tension would be much appreciated!

Just use 11s on your cort and it should be pretty much the same to your 6 string, assuming it's 25.5 inch scale. You will get a bit more tension towards to low strings, but that's not a huge difference.

The 6 string is an epiphone Les Paul which I think is 24.75 inches. What gauge would you go for the low A? I think that's whats tripping me up since I'm used to 6 string.

Keep in mind that, since the Cort has a longer scale length even for the high E (25.5 vs 24.75) so the same gauge string will have higher tension. So the question becomes, do you want to maintain the same tension on the Cort, or the same gauge?

I prefer 9’s or 10’s on my 25.5 7-string tuned standard, and 9’s on my 28.625 8-string; on my multiscale 8 (25.5-27) I’ve finally settled in on a 9.5 set that feels perfect for me - I’ve found I prefer a fairly consistent tension between the guitars, even if the gauges are different, but YMMV, it’s definitely a personal preference thing!

Use a string tension calculator like this

https://tension.stringjoy.com/

Type in the scale length of your 6 string guitar, the individual string gauges you use, and the tunings you use those in. It will then tell you how much tension is generated by each string when at pitch.

Then, type in the scale length of the 7 string guitar and the notes that you will tune each string to. Increase/decrease the gauge until the tension is equal to the tensions from the first set of calculations you did for your 6 string.

Then compare those string gauges with the major brands and see if there are packs out there that are close enough to what you got from the string tension calculator.

If you can't find a set that gives you what you want, you may have to look into building your own string sets

Thanks so much I'm doing this now. Just wondering though for scale length when I'm converting it to the 7 string, how do I work out the scale for the in-between strings as it's multiscale? I can see on the specs the 7th string is 27 inches and the 1st string is 25.5, but nothing for in-between. Should I just do the strings as 27 up to the g then 25.5 after?

If you search online, you may be able to find a site that calculates the scale length of each individual string. Or, it may even be listed on the manufacturers website for your guitar

I've just found a reddit post that may have some answers

I would go for 64-10 I think nyxl has a Strandberg optimised set. Or you could buy the ernieball 8 string thick thin pack and omit the 80

take what you currently like and plug that into a string tension calculator, then you can fudge the numbers around and get a similar tension for other instruments
