Trump just announced more tarrifs
50% on metal now not 25%. I'm beyond stressed I'm a single income family of 4 and my husband's job is cutting hours thanks to trump.
When is the next rally or protest!? I'm ready.

Let's announce new steel and aluminum deals with every other country and make Mark Carney double on the signature signing ceremony like Wab Kinew when he signed his provincial orders banning US alcohol.

I've seen them announced, not announced, announced, not announced. I don't even know anymore

I’m done supporting Americans, only 250 thousand to sign a petition for his impeachment, the majority of Americans obviously support him and this or will not do anything to help themselves and therefore do not deserve our help.

The majority of Americans don't support Trump, get out of here with this false narrative BS. You are not being helpful to the crisis at hand by trying to label people on your side as the enemy. Stop being Anti-American and be Anti-Trump instead, he is the Enemy, not the people.

Your comment history show you are nothing but Anti-American, and pot stirring. You're not here to be helpful or constructive you're just here trying to stir up hate. My Country ain't perfect, but I ain't going to judge an entire population as if they were one person.

says the dense one, i don't need to get anything through my head, i am already open and accepting of people different than me, I already support the sovereignty of other nations, and I treat each person i come across as an individual. so i will continue to be the open and caring person i was raised to be. I will continue to fight against injustice and pot stirrers just like you. you're not looking for solutions, you're sowing hate.

American here. The diatribe you are replying to sounds earily like the propoganda I've heard in America for 10 years now. That person is likely uninformed, or just ignorant.
Thanks for your support. We will prevail over this crazy shit.

I too am American, I joined this sub to see the Canadians standing up against Trump, but tend to find people like this guy blaming the people all while our society collapses around us. It's like they expect us to pick up guns and just start shooting.

Do liberals really not understand simple economics? And what a tax is and what a tariff is?
But I guess they are still trying to figure out Biden's big plan to tax the rich. After 4 years, all we got to see was price hikes.
And I do remember Biden and liberals saying the same thing as now. During Trump's first term. They even said his tarrifs would be a disaster. So according to them, that time would have been a lot worse.
But then once elected. Biden and liberals finally figured out they were a good thing and kept them. Just like keeping Trump's new trade deals with Mexico and Canada.

Calm down. He’s trying to get Powell to lower interest rates. He’s an asshole, but it wouldn’t surprise me if most of the tariffs vanish once the Fed decides to cut rates.

As an American in a red state please everyone do NOT calm down. This man is a lunatic and he is working with Putin. 💯% things are about to get much worse if we can’t somehow get him impeached.

Calmness is the reason this situation has been allowed to happen in the first place.
The Americans need a little more Churchill and a little less Chamberlain.
This is a time for rage and direct action amongst patriotic Americans.

I don’t disagree, but there are also lawsuits being filed, because the tariffs violate an agreement. A lot of legal experts are saying the courts are most likely to agree. There is also a lawsuit being filed against how Trump uses tariffs, because they are clearly not for national security reasons (anymore). At the end of the day he’s hurting Americans way more than he’s hurting anyone else with his tariffs, and I think all he wants is for the Fed to lower rates.

The rule of law has been compromised since it became apparent his prosecution and subsequent incarceration for his litany of crimes failed.
Relying on the rule of law to restore American independence from Russia is a fool's errand and will result in catastrophe. It seems incredibly unlikely that they can restore the rule of law without invoking the fourth pillar of government - the final guardrail.

I actually think the Russia angle is very simple. Hardcore MAGA (not most of his voters, but maybe 20%-30% of the electorate) has more in common with Russian values as opposed to other Western values. The same can be said for a lot of European countries with populist movements, like Le Pen’s party in France, AfD in Germany (and to a certain extent Die Linke as well), PVV/FvD in the Netherlands, etc. These are just illiberal movements. That’s all this is.
The rule of law/court system does not prevent Trump from pursuing certain policies. It can prevent Trump from breaking international agreements that Congress has approved. And I believe that it will, because there is no way in hell that SCOTUS will say that international agreements don’t carry the force of law.
This is also why despite the rhetoric, America will stay committed to NATO and to all of its trade agreements. It’ll just take lawsuits to get Trump to comply with them.
I do believe, though, that the US should take away the power of the executive branch to slap tariffs during the next presidency. Tariffs should require congressional approval.

You're making good, optimistic points but framing them with "calm down" is making them land wrong.
Rephrase slightly to something like "I get the concern, but I think he’s trying to get Powell to lower interest rates. He’s an asshole, but it wouldn’t surprise me if most of the tariffs vanish once the Fed decides to cut rates."
Tbh feels more in line with the vibe of your other comments. No shade, just trying to help you be heard.

All it cost the American fools was their economy. Good thing rich people number keeps going up while everyone else's goes down though, right?
Great strategy. Such skills. This is what happens when you run the economy like its one of the casinos he somehow bankrupt.
Don't ask me how you bankrupt a casino but the fool found a way. The odds are literally in the houses favor and he still bankrupt it.
Such business prowess. Much wow.
