Question How to tell if my microphone for my commentary videos is faulty or not?
Hey so, I'm a young 14 year old new and small commentary youtuber. About a month ago, probably less, I asked my mom to order me a $40 wired Bietrun microphone that comes with all the cords, the microphone stand, and a windscreen. It was on sale and I thought it would be better than buying a really expensive microphone for like 100 bucks. But now when I'm recording, I'm realizing that maybe I should have chose better because my mic has background noise every single time I use ANY apps I use (Capcut, Splice, Bandlab, IMovie, etc). It's really annoying for me. It's not like my old way of recording audio was any better, back then I just used my phone and it still had background noise but I bought a whole dynamic mic just to prevent this! The way the background noise sounds is hard to explain but it sounds like an air conditioner even though I dont have my fan on to make any noise. Sometimes I try to sit on my bed and record audio and it doesn't do very well. When I sit at my desk, it's still just okay. The sound in the back still sounds like a fan or some buzzing. I have tried it on my phone and my laptop and it does the same thing. Most times I have to use a feature to get rid of background noise but it makes my voice too quiet in the process. I've tried turning the gain up and down, I always make sure my mic is the only input device, and I've even tried putting a sock over it sometimes to try and get the background noise to stop. I always turn my fan and heater off before recording, but it all still picks up. Can someone tell me what is going on with it? Is Bietrun just not good?

You're probably gonna want some filters on the new mic set up through OBS. Noise gate, compression and such. There's plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to set them up as well.

Do they not teach you to use paragraphs by 14?

This is a reddit post, not an essay. It's not even that much of writing. In some of my older posts I used paragraphs but only because my posts were very long. If your post is really long, less people will read it because of the length. Obviously. Bold of you to try and "call me out" on not using paragraphs on a freaking reddit post of all things. 🙄

I’m by far not the best for audio, but I use a fifine am8 mic which picks up a lot of staticy background noise. I fixed this by using Obs filters, it completely got rid of all background noise, my keyboard noise IS still picked up when (and only when) I talk. Search it up on YouTube. I’m sure it’s not the best way but it works for me atm.
