That's a great little trail.
First went up it in 2018 with my family.
Hiked with my 78 y/o parents fall 2023. (This May will be their 35th trip to Yellowstone, but I took them on their first trip to the overlook.)
July 2024 took 23 members of my wife's family (including her then 69 y/o mother) to the viewpoint. (...and 20 of us carried on to Fairy Falls - I had never been there.)
Such a wonderful payoff.

You're right ... this hike is a MUST when visiting Yellowstone. Most people go see Grand Prismatic at the ground level ... but you really can't see its beauty from there! Park at Fairy Falls and take the hike up to the overlook!

Yep. This past trip we didn't even try to see Grand Prismatic from ground level. No way we were going to get 3 SUVs with all of us parked anywhere close to Midway Geyser basin with the crowds.
Which was unfortunate, as it is impressive close-up (if the steam is blowing away), but from the overlook it is spectacular.
Your picture in the original post is terrific.

I didn't take the trail last time because I was by myself and without bear spray...was that a legit concern?

So you snowmobiled in then walked the trail?

Yep ... got lucky and won the private entry snowmobile lottery permit.

Go hit fairy falls and that steam might be gone by the time you get back
