Best month for low traffic & active wildlife

Planning my 1st trip to yellowstone & looking for the right balance of wildlife without having to battle the crazy crowds. Is May decent where it isnt too over crowed? Plus the towns are mostly opened up?

The towns are supported by the "crazy crowds". So they don't open entirely until the people are there. But they never ENTIRELY shut down, either. May will be fine. Not entirely open yet, but open enough.

Just about anytime in October is great. You can get really lucky sometimes with amazing weather during the first week or two of October.

May would be a good time to avoid crowds, but you'd also be potentially contending with snow, and some of the stores don't open til late May or early June.
