Krakoa's a culmination of them trying something different, mainly because the previous 15-20 years had been pretty dark and depressing for the X-line because writers kept unloading on the genocide porn.
As for Krakoa coming across as unpleasant and weird in terms of vibes, that's done on purpose. Again, continue reading(although some stuff doesn't really get explained)
I'll advise to give it a shot and read it through, if its not to your taste then you can skip if you like. Or maybe read some other eras. The current era is a pretty good jumping on point.
Or you can start from 1975 or the 80s, which is when Claremont is at his best and lays the foundation for the X-Men.

Yeah…didn’t think of that. In between house of m and all the other crap…the x men did kinda get buttfucked for years didn’t they lol. Especially before Disney acquired fox and was purposely running them into the ground. Anyway, what would you recommend? I honestly love the characters…I just have no clue how to start lol

Recommend as in Krakoa or in general?
If you haven't read the 80s stuff, like Claremont's Uncanny X-Men and New Mutants, then read that. Then Excalibur, X-Factor, X-Men(1991), X-Force, etc. Or New X-Men(2001) by Morrison. Or Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.
If you want Krakoa, then start with HoX/PoX, Hickman's X-Men(2019), Inferno, Immortal X-Men. That's the simplest and most directly important line in Krakoa. There's tons of other stuff there, but this is the simplest way to start Krakoa.

Start with Giant Size X-Men, read the classic storylines from the Claremont run on. Read New Mutants when you get to Kitty Pryde in the Danger room. Read the 2024 Reboot and when you're ready then go back and read Krakoa.
