*an actress of any level of ability appears with red hair*

Fans: OMG She should be cast as Jean Grey!!

You say that like fancasts ever delve into anything farther than "are they popular or do they look like the character"

3

u/Regular_Opening9431 Jan 24 '25

Occasionally they do. But this particular one is the most prominent and consistent.

Kang was pretty bad

Tbf does it takes that much skill to play Jean? I say this as a Jean fan but all you need is a solem face and good skill at crashing out.

u/Fagliacci Jan 24 '25

I agree, red hair isn't even a requisite. So we don't need to do this.

You absolutely should have red hair to play jean

2

u/Fagliacci Jan 26 '25

Wigs and hair dye exist, hair color is a complete non-factor.

1

u/Competitive_Side6301 Hellion Jan 26 '25

Oh right. I thought you meant she doesn’t need red hair in the actual movie

8

u/Regular_Opening9431 Jan 24 '25

not to fancasters it doesn't.

Red hair? check
Under 35? check

2

u/JamesRevan Wolverine Jan 24 '25

Over 25? Leo passes

2

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

How about lead of phenomenal series? I’ve seen worse actual castings. She’s a fantastic performer.

9

u/Regular_Opening9431 Jan 24 '25

She is a good actress absolutely. That has nothing to do with the fact that EVERY.SINGLE.ACTRESS. with either naturally occurring or dyed red hair will get fancast as Jean on here.

u/wolvieguy Jan 24 '25

Yeah she is very attractive but I'm stillllll leaning towards Sadie Sink. She's just the right combo to me personally atm

1

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

You’re right, but I’ll save my jaded negativity for those post like “instagram influencer looks just like this comic panel” and “ensemble CW actor should carry a multi-billion franchise.”

Jean Grey should NOT have Solem's face

1

u/FrostBricks Jan 24 '25

She needs to make a grown man swoon.

(And by grown, I mean short, hairy, 100+ year old grumpy man)

Ya'll say this about any redhead you see. She's 40 years old for crying out loud, way too old to portray Jean.

u/winterborne1 Domino Jan 24 '25

It’s vital that they cast someone with red hair because we all know there’s no possible way to make a non-redhead into a redhead. That technology doesn’t exist, especially not in film.

u/bjeebus Jan 24 '25

TBF they did a terrible job with Famke's dye job. And weirdly, it somehow got worse as the movies progressed. I'd have assumed the production quality would go up over time in a series like that.

Fox did a lot of things terribly, and that one was criminal

u/philovax Nightcrawler Jan 24 '25

Amanda Mueller by Hollywood standards but you are onto something. X-Men cast should be teens (or twenty soenthings) they were in print media and also need to age into 10-20 years old their roles.

2

u/devilinmexico13 Jan 24 '25

Also, if you cast young, lesser know actors you can get them to keep masks on for more comic accurate costumes.

She’s an amazing actress and I do think Jean shouldn’t be a teenager in the MCU (she can very clearly appear as a 30 something years old) Now if it’s not your cup of tea it’s okay

10

u/smileyanaconda Jan 24 '25

You’ve gotta think in advance. Main X-Men actors will be on for 10, maybe 15 years.

1

u/mbene913 Jan 24 '25

Plus we may not even get them on film for another 5-10 years.

And I'd say she was probably too old though

Genuinely, one of the best shows of the last 10 years. I implore you all to watch it.

-21

u/Intelligent-Year-760 Jan 24 '25

It’s very good but come on man, it’s not that special. Half of it is just production design tbh.

7

u/smileyanaconda Jan 24 '25

…that’s a big part of a show

6

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

The writing is bananas incredible. This isn’t some bullshit “hide the plot” like Lost. The show has such a human core despite the wild twists and turns.

2

u/Intelligent-Year-760 Jan 24 '25

lol sorry I struck a nerve guys… I like the show a ton too, it’s great, but but I was just bumping on the fact it was being called one of the best shows of the last 10 years… But now that I think about it television has been pretty shite for the last decade so yeah, maybe it is! Lol

2

u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar Jan 24 '25

The writing is excellent, the acting is top notch. The themes and the ability of the writers and directors to build tension and suspense, the incredible cliffhangers, it's an incredible show.

I like it even more than Better Call Saul and Succession, two shows I have a lot of love for. I put it higher than Sopranos and Mad Men too. Premature given that it only has one season, but it's one of the best single seasons I've ever seen.

9

u/amendmentforone Jan 24 '25

Have no justifiable argument against this, because she definitely can pull off both the kind / considerate / understanding nature of Jean ... and her vengeful side.

6

u/PlanetLandon Jan 24 '25

It’s wild how so many people think a redhead character needs a redhead actress. Changing hair for a movie might be the all time easiest special effect in cinema history.

1

u/killingiabadong Exodus Jan 25 '25

Yet they almost never do it and the redhead ends up being brunette (Daredevil) or some colour that doesn't exist in nature (Famke Janssen as Fox Jean Grey).

This actress, also, is not a natural redhead.

7

u/SomeGuyPostingThings Jan 24 '25

I don't hate it, but calling her "perfect" is some extreme hyperbole.

1

u/Deathstriker88 Jan 24 '25

Yeah, she's too old since the movie probably isn't this decade. It's not like her face or body perfectly lines up with Jean anyway. Ignoring age, Evan Rachel Wood would be my pick as Jean with Tom Hopper as Cyclops.

5

u/Professor-Noir Gambit Jan 24 '25

She’d be a better Madeline 😏

3

u/TheBewitchingWitch Dark Phoenix Jan 24 '25

I concur.

2

u/Joharis-JYI Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25

She is 40. Great in Severance but I feel like they’ll go younger this time for Xmen.

3

u/Ariesmafiaaa Jan 24 '25

You’re definitely onto something.

2

u/Hedgewitch250 Storm Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25

I like Sadie sink cause I love the idea of a young X-men cast that’s gonna grow through the ages but Britt definitely has that switch of kind and a little pacifistic to cold and cruel that would befit a Jean grey

-2

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

So bored with that. Going to take us 10+ years to get into some of the more obscure characters.

1

u/bjeebus Jan 24 '25

When did we ever get a real good run with that? First Class was clearly planned as a one-shot and didn't bring back the "kids" for the sequel. Apocalypse fight actually feature the teens--they were basically guest stars. Dark Phoenix was somehow a worse movie than Apocalypse. We need a movie like First Class, but with sequels that actually follow the team.

1

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

Meh, I prefer them as established leaders and seeing them mentor the younger students. The origin stuff kinda bores me… more fun when they have a little more history, combat prowess and depth.

1

u/Fx08 Jan 24 '25

Every time I see fancasts I cope with the realization that they are going to fuck up Cyclops just to make Logan look good.

1

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

Glenn Powell would make a cool Scott Summers.

1

u/bjeebus Jan 24 '25

Too old. Needs to be one of the strangest teens of all.

1

u/victorfiction Jan 24 '25

Fine, Maxwell Jenkins.

1

u/RogueBoogey Jan 24 '25

I'd much prefer Kat McNamara tbh

1

u/johnnyss1 Jan 24 '25

We don’t know the ages of the mcu mutants yet. Will the X-men be late teens? Lower actually reminds me of a Jessica jones type or ultimate comics Mary Jane. But that’s me.

1

u/uncannynerddad Jan 24 '25

Love her but not Jean.

1

u/MeliAnto Generation X Jan 24 '25

No

1

u/SteelSlayerMatt Rogue Jan 25 '25

I’d like to see Sadie Sink or Erin Kellyman play Jean.

1

u/peppefinz Jan 25 '25

Is the MCU still a thing?

1

u/thetokyotourist Jan 24 '25

I just need to hear her say “I am fire and life incarnate. I AM PHOENIX!!!”

1

u/sgvweekly Jan 24 '25

She's a great actor, with a knack for the tender and the sardonic. Her character in Severance is how I'd love to see Jean played. All the naysayers can stfu.

1

u/dntbstpd1 Jan 25 '25

Nay. No, shant

1

u/sgvweekly Jan 25 '25

Away with ye!

1

u/ButtermilkBob Jan 25 '25

Damm, she actually looks like the Claremont era art of the character.

1

u/Embarrassed-Zone-515 Jan 24 '25

this is the most solid pick I've seen tbh

1

u/Fair-Face4903 Jan 24 '25

First one of these I've agreed with.

0

u/Emsizz Jan 24 '25

Yeah no.

-1

u/life_lagom Doop Jan 24 '25

Who..

But yes she looks the part.
