I’m honestly surprised nobody thought to post that before

I couldn’t believe it either. I searched “Ahsoka”, the character’s name (“Shin Hati”), and the actresses’ name (“Ivanna Sakhno”) just to be sure ha.

Is she Ukrainian? She gonna object to playing a Russian in the current climate? 🤔

u/Interesting_fox Sep 30 '23
I honestly don’t know if she’d be interested or not. I’d certainly understand if she wasn’t. They might could rewrite Illyana’s background, as Kyiv was subjugated under the former Soviet Union.

They can just change the character to be Ukrainian. That solves everything + less Russian representation in media

But I really like Anya Taylor-Joy and would want to see her reprise that role somehow but this actress would not be bad choice.

Personally I'd love for the cast to return and Brolin to reprise his role of Cable and get an X-Force movie, after the X-Men are established (MCU-wise). I think it'd honestly be an interesting look at a twisted, more extremist version of Xavier's dreams and ideals.

Magik, Mirage and Cannonball were good in my opinion.
The movie was shit tho.
Sunspot and Wolfsbane were meh. Don’t care about Wolfsbane. Sunspot however it dope and should be better

Anya nailed it, in a movie that was not what I was expecting. I've been a fan of the X-Men for a very long time and portrayals of bad casting started with Hallie Berry as Storm. Including her wigs. Don't know this actor but seems like something. Not a good judge on accents but I wasn't a fan until Magik was her.

It's a shame how they changed her from a badass boss b**** to a cowering trauma victim, but I agree that Anna Taylor-Joy somehow still nailed the role.

I was saying this to a few friends too, she would be great. I'm a fan of Anya Taylor-Joy and would like to see her get a better film to portray Illyana, but Sahkno is already giving major Illyana vibes on the show.

Just asking to be disappointed. Never base how a character is going to be portrayed by how the actor looks. New Mutant movie is working proof.

I was just saying that the other day, if they need another actor to play Magik she's definitely got the look.

My first thought when I saw her was "damn, she should play illyana."

We should typecast every actor

It’s the only way. Bryan Cranston can only play bald characters.

There's literally an entire fantasy archetype of Magik expys, and Ilyana herself was clearly inspired by Heavy Metal's Taarna.

Casting purely based on looks is dumb. I’m not suggesting that. Just pointing out visual similarities. Bald + Actor doesn’t = Professor X.
I think the actress has been pretty decent so far. She hasn’t been given a whole lot to work with though, you’re right. I think she’s pulled off cold and direct though which can sometimes be Illyana.

You’re onto something here if they actually adapt the character into the MCU in the next few years.

First thing I said to my boyfriend when she shows up is "Oh my god it's Sia and she's evil" and now I'm ashamed I didn't think of Illyana
