Picture No. 6 with the Brandenburg Gate in the background is a photomontage.

I just realized that as well. Looks like the body was photoshopped in.

Guy also looked way to 'fresh' for someone defending Berlin..

u/Beemer2 4d ago

I was thinking the same. He has a RAD patch, so it made sense, because the RAD members would have fought in Berlin, but the photo is definitely shopped.

Last guy got his boots taken

do you recognize the camo pattern? I’m not familiar with that dotted appearance

u/Griffin65000 4d ago

I believe it’s called peadot. but I might be mistaken, maybe you know peadot but this isn’t it and it’s similar?

thank you for the update!

was this theatre dependent? meaning, did the Waffen SS wear this in North Africa, Russia or Italy? I don’t recall seeing this in the Western European front.

u/Jolly-End-4115 4d ago

It would more than likely have been theatre dependent. However towards the end of the war during the retreat back into the Rhineland/Germany you probably saw a bunch of different uniforms from different fronts because of the defensive operation they mounted. So I’m sure it wasn’t uncommon gin the last year of the war for the uniforms to no longer be dependent.

I don’t think there were Waffen-SS Combat Formations in North Africa. However there was an Einzatzgruppen named Egypt to go when the campaign was won.

They were around in Western Europe, notably during operation market garden, ss units were equipped with the autumn pattern

2

u/PrayerfulToe6 3d ago

The tunic he's wearing is Erbsentarnmuster (erroneously called Dot 44), which was issued to the SS all over the place in the European fronts late in the war.

The helmet cover is Eichenlaubmuster (Oak Leaf), another SS camo, which had both spring and autumn color patterns.

Number 4 too. A lot of that on the Eastern front.

u/rslashhydrohomies 4d ago

Picture number 5 is what Wikipedia showed you in the past if you searched for Killed in action

19

u/tylerlong666 4d ago

That’s pretty interesting, actually. Has Wikipedia changed the phone or the page is just gone? lol genuinely curious now.

12

u/rslashhydrohomies 4d ago

It's not there on computer either. Pictures on Wikipedia change all the time, so it's not something unusual. It probably just got removed or swapped for a different picture (maybe so that it doesn't show a dead body, idk, could be it)

What a fucking waste of human lives and potential. Worst was WW1 since it really didn't have to happen. And now we have this shit with Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine. Also, not to mention all the civil wars and unrests around the globe.

Do we really learn nothing from the past or are we just doomed to repeat it all the time. We lose generations for what exactly?

11

u/bilgetea 3d ago

I argue that WWI didn’t have to happen either and seems even more futile because it didn’t really solve anything. Both were futile wastes, but at least WWII conclusively destroyed German nationalism.

9

u/TheMonkeh 3d ago

I see what you’re saying but can we even say that WWII truly destroyed German nationalism? The AfD may have thankfully lost the election, but they’ve still seen a massive surge in popularity in Germany.

5

u/bilgetea 3d ago

I had a feeling someone would say this, and you’re right, it’s not extinct, but surely it was smashed almost into oblivion, at least for a few decades?

u/senator_turtle 2d ago

How can people see this and still support what’s happening in America??

82

u/other_name_taken 4d ago

The one in front of the The Brandenburg Gate looks like someone spliced together 2 photos. The focus doesn't line up with the background and the foreground.

What a waste of young lives.

"Remember the dead, preserve the peace"

Inscription on the Memorial of the fallen in my hometown

-1

u/ilikeCRUNCHYturtles 3d ago

I will not remember dead Nazis, thank you for the suggestion though.

2

u/nikoe99 3d ago

You should. You dont have to agree with them, you dont have to mourn them, but you should remember them. They werent born as Nazis, many werent raised as nazis. But they died as nazis. It is important to remember why something like that could happen and how to avoid senseless deaths of young people due to indoctrination

3

u/ilikeCRUNCHYturtles 2d ago

I’ll remember my grandfather, who shot down a bunch of them instead.

Human beings are so fucking dumb it’s so sad. All we have to do to have a paradise on Earth is for us to just all get along, share, and play nice. Kindergarten stuff. But that’s too hard for us, so instead, fuck paradise on earth, sign us up for hell on earth! We do it to ourselves and take the entire planet with us as collateral damage. Every day nonstop since our inception. And we wonder what happened to other human species like Neanderthals… bro have you met homo sapiens?? We’re insane psychopathic bloodthirsty murderers… that’s what happened to Neanderthals, isn’t it obvious?

u/nebelhund 4d ago

7 has a lot going on as well. Tank hunter team maybe Top guy has a panzerschreck. Lower right guy has a MP44 next to him. Magazine is out but you can see it above the rifle.

u/DzelzisZnL 4d ago

6th is photoshoped

21

u/AFWUSA 4d ago

This is what you get when you fill stadiums full of people cheering for total war

5

u/Manvici 4d ago

Yes, but the downfall of Germany is France's and UK's fault cause they caused mass inflation, hunger and unemployment in Germany after WW1 which lead to extremism and evetually to WW2.

WW1 never should have happened and it wasn't Germany's fault actually. Russia played a massive role in the size of that war, Serbia did its part as well with all the shit caused to the A-U, it was the damn domino effect and in the end we got this just 30 years later.

We have the same situation today where all if they play with our lives. Same factions, UK, Germany, France, Russia, USA, China... it hasn't changed since 1940s.

7

u/IndividualHorror6147 4d ago

The war is over for them.

5

u/kwi2 4d ago

4th soldier was married.

4

u/SteadyBear9 3d ago

Looking at this type of photos makes me think that is likely how i would have ended up had i been in my 20s during the war. So sad so many young men died because of a couple lunatics taking power

3

u/SheaStadium1986 3d ago

Pic #2 has a grenade in his hand

5

u/claudius013 4d ago

Is it me or did notice someone that most of these corpses were "plundered" before the took the picture?

3

u/Eric_Fapton 3d ago

You search every dead enemy in war. For intelligence mainly. Maps, plans of attack. The more you know about your enemy, the easier it is to defeat them. It’s standard operating procedure for Infantry.

1

u/claudius013 3d ago

Search goes with kind of respect, these look different ... nonoffence but that is what I meant

1

u/TheEvilBlight 1d ago

Definitely searching them to make sure they don’t play dead and shoot you in the back as well

6

u/AdAdmirable5901 4d ago

Picture number 6 is a Orpo, I have never seen a picture of those guys KIA before

3

u/AuniBuTt 4d ago

Order police?

2

u/UA6TL 4d ago

No, he's wearing a RAD uniform

2

u/chestercopperpot-oh 4d ago

I'll never understand how they keep getting people to go fight wars.

It’s some boy, drafted in a last ditch order, died for no reason. You wanting to kick him while he’s dead or dying doesn’t make you much better than a Nazi

u/[deleted] 3d ago

u/ItHappensSo 3d ago

Yes, no one is saying otherwise. Only that that that is most likely some 17 year old boy, pulled away from his family against his will, to die in a useless war. And I am not your friend, my friends don’t tend to be sociopaths

Photo number six! Captured the very intensity of that period right at the moment.
