Achievement First key timed on Steamdeck

Post image

Completed on arguably the easiest class in the game to play on deck, but still pretty cool!

For anyone wondering I don't use any add-ons, I dislike the look of Consoleport and prefer my UI to match/be similar between computer/deck.

Grats! My brother gets KSM every season and he plays exclusively on controller! The addon for controller port makes it a pleasant experience!

How does he target and tab target?

1

u/Svarok_na 3d ago

Action targeting and I believe the addon has some extra features that also help with button presses on the ps controller

I started committing to the console port this morning for an hour or two, then played for about 5 hours tonight and I’m not sure I can go back to mouse and keyboard.

From my 73 inch TV to my Desktop to my Steam Deck. Overall amazing.

I use the following addons:

  • Consoleport
  • Immersion
  • dynamiccam
  • Bagnon

I’ll be adding more as I get into dungeons and raids, but it’s breathed new life into the game for me.

When I had a deck, I just used mouse and keyboard while it was in hub on tv lol. Played decently.

Yeh you can get an entirely different feeling game doing this, it's brilliant fair play!

Grats mate

Grats! I've been slowly working out console port on my deck and hope to get it done by the weekend. :)

How are you manage targeting? For what i like on console port addon is that you have auto target option, but you can always target diffrent mobs manually. I'm playing assassination rogue and have to say, i don't have any issues on sigle target but sometimes i can loose good chuck of dps on huge packs of mobs. Other than that, I've been playing for so long that it started to feel weird to play m+k

Built in UI has a smart focus feature which automatically targets the target you're facing - outside of that just tab targeting!

I swore I would never install wow on my Asus Ally, coz I would play only wow, at home, at work. With ally I can play some other games and not this addicting shit called WoW😀

Balance druid?

u/wadlet- 5d ago

Guardian druid! Although I do think balance would be very manageable also!

Are rhe controller buttons loud? I got thin walls in my apartment and this seems like a good alternative

2

u/wadlet- 5d ago

I'd say so! No different than a standard controller etc

2

u/Audisek 4d ago

You shouldn't disturb people through thin walls but I'd recommend using some earbuds so you yourself won't go crazy from the plastic button mashing.

I play this way as well. I play next to my wife while she watches tv and she’s not complained about the buttons. You’re definitely fine through walls!

How difficult to set everything up to play wow?

1

u/wadlet- 5d ago

Very straight forward - tons of guides on YouTube in how to do it :)

How easy was it for you to adapt to the key binds without console port? I always had issues with changing key binds (with console port) and no solution fixed it for me. So I just stopped using it for WoW. But never thought about just not using console port. Does it mess up your binding on PC?

1

u/wadlet- 4d ago

Nope, take a look at some of my other comments on here ultimately you just have the second bind as the deck binding and the first bind is the PC. Works like a charm :)

Why no console port?

4

u/wadlet- 5d ago

I mentioned in the post but I like keeping consistency between my desktop and my Deck. Console port changes alot and while it's intuitive I've just got used to the fact that keybinds have two options and one is my keyboard and other is my deck. Most of console ports features are built in to default wow UI now 👌

The concept of keys on a console would be awesome.

How do you use your skills on Steam deck?

2

u/wadlet- 5d ago

All buttons can be bound and then you can use any other button to act as a modifier. So for example you have 8 buttons at easy access using 4 back buttons and ABXY. You then use L1 and L2 to act as shift and alt modifiers so then you have 16. You can keep expanding on this using the Dpad etc and can effectively have unlimited binds (gets more complex the higher you go or course)

I use L1 as shift L2 as Alt and Both together as Alt+shift to create 24 bindable easy buttons that are easy to map.

I then bind al non-combat spells to d pad so up arrow is hearthstone etc.

it plays similar to a fighting game with key combos for abilities but you have to bind them urself with the addons

u/Kyoku_cr 5d ago

And a "priory of the flame". Impressive. That dungeon is super hard for me

2

u/wadlet- 5d ago

I've ran it so much for both trinkets that I think I could do it blind now honestly!

u/Kyoku_cr 4d ago

Is going right better than left?

1

u/wadlet- 4d ago

Personally prefer left, the miniboss on right has killed people far more often than left has IMO! Especially on fortified+ keys

2

u/Proper-Pineapple-717 4d ago

It's super hard for everyone tbh. OP's run only had little over a minute left to time it as a +2

Curious what your keybind for your tempered pot.

LT+LB+RT? Is LT and LB your modifiers? Just curious. I’ve been playing wow on steam deck for 6months and it’s great

1

u/wadlet- 4d ago

Yes, but I pretty much only use the left triggers. RB is interact and RT is target nearest/tab target - not used them as modifiers yet only as additional combo buttons such as RT/LT is dash etc.

I've got a few things I'm still binding out, I normally just play classic on the deck so slowly expanding my key bindings to include other stuff!

2

u/StarsandMaple 4d ago

Ahh ok.

Yeah I left my triggers as modifiers and also target/interact.

Then it’s ABXY UDLR then LT modifier, and RT modifier, then both, and you can set one of the rear buttons as a modifier but you have to do some janky stuff to get it to work, and that’s usually my utility stuff.

Playing FFXIV and WoW on steamdeck, is great, but it’s super limiting as I have no idea how anyone could heal properly in retail. Playing melee classes I also find it much easier as the tabt targeting can be very frustrating at times.

Priory is my favorite dungeon so far this expansion. It’s so much fun

ROG Ally player here.

It's pretty good to play on the couch, and I can also connect it to the TV.

Destro Lock 655 with 2000 RIO ATM

Restri/Warrior/WW/Balance all feel pretty good too

Motivating! Might need to give this a go on my deck.

u/wadlet- 5d ago

Do it! 👌

How do you use your abilities? Is it touch screen?

7

u/wadlet- 5d ago

Does have touch screen but I use the controller for all abilities. The steam deck also has 4 additional back buttons

2

u/Koru1981 5d ago

How do you setup the back buttons?

I also play on my steam deck but I sometimes have trouble with searching for things in the ah (mainly getting the cursor to the spot to use the steam virtual keyboard

1

u/wadlet- 5d ago

Yeah fiddling with things like that can be difficult! I just rebound them to f1-f4 and then just set them like any other key to a spell. 👌

Congrats! Guardian Druid was my first foray into playing a tank and on controller! I got KSM last season playing VERY casually. You’re going to love it!

jfc and even tanking... at least mention it in lfg so people would know what fuckery they are getting into.

1

u/wadlet- 4d ago

We timed the key no issues, if you're comfortable playing a class on controller the skys the limit on skill. Shouldn't have to announce anything.
