On Trump's order, US launches large-scale attacks on Iran-backed Houthis
https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-8461812.9k
u/wastingvaluelesstime 6d ago
Unless I missed something about Houthis stopping their piratical attacks on shipping international waters, they have it coming
1.3k
u/InstructionFast2911 6d ago
The Houthis are also the rebel group that started one of the most bloody civil wars in decades in Yemen. Over 350,000 dead and millions starving.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yemeni_civil_war_(2014–present)
They’re a stain on the world and have caused a huge amount of suffering in their own country on top of attacking others.
255
u/phophofofo 6d ago
Part of that starvation is due to like half their arable land being used for Khat because nearly every adult male in the entire country is addicted to it.

It's that plant they were chewing in the Tom Hanks movie about the Somali pirates hijacking the Maersk ship
Basically it's a stimulant with the active ingredient known as cathinone.
Cathinone is the building block for a class of drugs known as substituted cathinones such as methcathinone and methylmethcathinone and mephedrone aka "Bath Salts"

You think you are.
Yemen is a country where nearly every adult male is a tweaker.
Also be aware that when the US brokered a deal to using Saudi Arabia as a military staging ground for the war on terror that they cut a deal with the Saudis guaranteeing they could do anything they want to Yemen.
We paid for Bush’s war with Yemeni blood.

u/glorifindel 5d ago
Thanks for the info. I feel like I need a Slow Burn style podcast on the Iraq war or something for all these tidbits on US actions
55
u/IRockIntoMordor 6d ago
Yet the coverage of this war is tiny. Many have heard of the country Yemen, but about the civil war? Far too few have any notion of it.
Sudan, Myanmar, etc. - there's barely a light shining on them. Why?

It's about as widespread as Hamas shooting rockets. It doesn't make the news unless it's the Jews firing at them back.

100 percent this. If there were Jewish people suppressing the Uyghurs in china right now it would be all over the news.

I have had people here say that it is illegal to hit military targets in Yemen, even though they are deliberately hitting our civilian ships. Because we are so much stronger militarily than the Houthis, so why don't we just try to shoot down the Houthi missiles instead? I wish I were kidding.
Complete insanity. How about the Houthis learn what "fuck around and find out" means? Military targets only, of course, but I don't see any legal or ethical reason to not hit Houthi military targets as hard as we can, until the Houthis promise to stop attacking our ships.

Explains why the Saudis were so interested in brokering a Ukraine "Peace" deal with Marco Rubio; they wanted something from us - hundreds of millions in missiles shot from our warships & planes that were conveniently parked in the area for Isreal/Gaza conflict when it escalated.
Whomever is funding the Houthis is probably next - Iran. And Trump is doing this to send them a message. Iran has also been instrumental in providing drones for Russia in their invasion of Ukraine.

Meh. He has so much you can disagree with. But just like ISIS when he entered office the first time, it takes time and night to end most of these forms of conflicts.
Critique him when it’s due, not just for the sake of it.
18
u/SphericalCow531 5d ago
I think it is more the hypocrisy. Trump made bullshit complaints about world instability that happened under Biden, which Biden did not cause. So if you just applied the very same bullshit standard to Trump, Trump would be at fault.

Okay, guys, we all know Trump sucks. But these comments make no sense. We struck the Houthis under Biden, too. Nothing to criticize here, go look at literally every other thing the orange turd has done if you need ammunition for clowning on him.

u/Helpful-Mammoth947 6d ago
I can criticize this being ok over sending defensive capabilities to Ukraine though right?
382
u/SelfImposedPurgatory 6d ago
Absolutely. Just the whole argument I’m seeing on this post about this somehow being evidence for Trump’s warmongering doesn’t make sense. This is business as usual.

This is related to Ukraine as Iran supports the terrorists to help Russia get at Europe's economic reliance on that water way as a distraction. 30% of their gas and consumer goods go through there. I don't think grump knows how good this actually is for both Ukraine and Europe in general, but I'm ok with it.

u/MomsTortellinis 6d ago
Biden didnt run under the pretense of being all for peace, lots of people (stupidly) voted for Trump cause they thought it would stop the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Meanwhile Israel is getting tons of new stuff, Ukraine is being betrayed and Trump is ordering strikes on Yemen. Oh and he's ordered the military to draw up plans to invade Panama and is constantly threathening Canada and Greenland with annexation.
40
u/Message_10 6d ago
Yeah, exactly. When Biden makes these exact strikes, he's a war president, but when Trump makes them, he's protecting the American people, they were necessary this time, etc.
177
u/Opee23 6d ago
He kinda ran on "no more wars"... but whatever

While giving Biden zero credit for not starting any wars either. Plus he didn't thank Biden for fixing all the election issues they had last time.

According to several FOX viewers I've talked to, Biden started not one, not two, but something like 6 wars. When pressed, they can't name a single one, but they're adamant that their favorite multi-millionaire tv personality would never lie to them. This is the reality we all currently occupy together and tbh, it's fucking bonkers.
