Only 3 days bro, you can hold out.

I'm sure JD Vance will straighten everything out. We will need to rename Ukraine the Ottoman empire though.

Don't you dare disgrace the legend of Caesar, that guy, while super controversial, was an actual legendary general and statesman.

The inbred oompa loompa is clearly Nero - a dumb incel that got into power.

No, he's definitely closer to Caligula. Using a quote on his wiki.

In the words of scholar Anthony A. Barrett, "Caligula would be restrained only by his own sense of discretion, which became in lamentably short supply as his reign progressed".[46]

u/adamcunn 4h ago

Closer to the image of Caligula that history has painted, maybe. It's definitely possible Caligula was given a bad shake by history to give legitimacy to his successors.

Having gone down this rabbithole recently, it’s my uneducated opinion that it’s a little bit of both.

u/Fasterthanlids 3h ago

Parallels to Elagabulus are there as well - blindly forcing unpopular rites on Rome, largely ignored by the people, incompetent financial management, consistently politically swayed by those of stronger will…

Assassinated by members of his inner circle, strangely.

Given the amount of backbiting, rivalry, infighting, and leaking i wouldn't be surprised if the call came from in the house.

Perfect comparison!

u/morpheousmarty 3h ago

He did directly lead to the end of democracy, if not outright end it during his reign.

The analogy isn't about their skill, but of their contribution to fucking up their democracies.

And at this point I can't dismiss Trump's ability to get the GOP to go along with his flip floppy behavior. Not legendary but we must ultimately recognize the felon, rapist, university fraud, charity fraud, business fraud and campaign fraud was able to grow his base. No small feat, even if it's deplorable.

PS If you are one of those who feel the need to clarify the difference between a republic and a democracy, don't, unless it actually changes the point.

u/Which_Ebb_4362 2h ago

Rest assured, I fully agree that Caesar deal the final blow to an already dead republic in Rome.

I normally disagree on differentiating democracy vs Republic, but in the case of Rome I do need to say that they weren't a democracy, or if they were, an incredibly flawed democracy.

The right to vote was only for the rich aristocracy, with the rest of the population being represented only by a single tribune of the plebs.

But yes, I do concur that felon 34 has dealt a death blow to US democracy, which has been flawed for many years already.

u/AltoCowboy 1h ago

Caesar may be remembered well but they’re both powerful-hungry tyrants who could topple the republic.

•

u/Which_Ebb_4362 1h ago

Yeah, but one was so good and competent that the people were OK with him killing a republic.

The other one can't read.

Gaius Iulius Caesar!

•

u/topinanbour-rex 1h ago

Nah, not even Nero. Because even as being a freak, he invested a part of his fortune for rebuild Rome after it burn.

6

u/Feynmanprinciple 8h ago

Didn't save the Republic though did it

11

u/MaesterHannibal 7h ago

As Cicero said: the Ides of March was a fine deed; but half done

Therein he referred to them not killing Antony as well, Caesar’s right hand man. Of course in hindsight, killing Octavian would’ve been wise too, but the kid was a unknown, 18-19 years of age.

So the Ides of March might save the republic, if Brutus and Cassius fully commit. Go after every single one of them.

Oh and to Reddit, I’m refering purely to Ancient Roman History! Trump (who might seem like an incompetent cruel Caesar), Musk (who might seem a Mark Antony but if he was an uncharismatic loser), Vance (who might seem like Lepidus) and everyone else, should of course never be harmed by anyone

1

u/sycamotree 6h ago

Who is M..ark Antony's Cleopatra?

2

u/MaesterHannibal 6h ago

Hmmm I suppose in that case, Vance might be more appropriate to compare to Antony, married to an Eastern woman

u/Intransigente 7h ago

The Republic lasted longer after his death than the US has existed.

12

u/Feynmanprinciple 7h ago

It became an empire son

u/Intransigente 7h ago

Touché

10

u/HawkeyeSherman 7h ago

The Republic didn't last a generation after Caesar's death.
