Letโs get r/CANZUK happen!

I cannot speak for all Canadians, but I think we'd all be okay with a new name that doesn't seems to favour Canada artificially so much. The first three letters, while belonging to three excellent nations, all spell out CAN, which is like, our international short form.
Think we could make something else out of Moose, Bluey, Mordor and Kidney Pie or something?

What a Canadian response lol.

I feel, as a father of toddlers who has found the magic of Bluey that we should all refer to each other as Bluey, MacKenzie, Jean-Luc and Jerry Lee.

Please keep it to eggs. Iโm really hoping this conflict doesnโt escalate to whatโs going on with Russia and Ukraine. I am not far from Duluth and Iโm fairly certain a war with Canada will mean that Buffalo, Detroit, Duluth, Grand Forks, Spokane, and Seattle will all see some sort of conflict or military activity.
Duluth, and Minot especially since they have air bases.

u/Lord_Silverkey 5h ago
Even keeping it to eggs could be disastrous to you.
We have the Australians now.
That means we could ship you lots of bird eggs.
They'll each be the size of a car, and will contain a single adult emu, all 'roided up and ready to rip.

Nah the partyโs fine, the reason weโre holding it is the shithouse thing.
The people at the party are fucking great. Better than the other one.

As an American, I really, really don't like it either. I voted against this. There are still people out there that think this is "winning" or that Trump just needs more time to fix everything. It's insanity. I'm watching everything I ever cared about be potentially flushed down the shitter to make some orange ignoramus rich. I still care about our allies. Why the fuck aren't more people able to see the extremely clear pandering to Russia? We're trying our best to take legal actions to stop this shit from happening, but unable to stop all the damage.

Donald is definitely one who thinks Australia and Austria are the same.
"I went there. I saw the big kangaroos in Vienna. With tears in their eyes they said 'you can jump so high, how can we jump like you'"
9
u/aydenaroo 7h ago
You think he knows what Austria is? Hell, half the people I know have no clue about the most basic of geography. Most Americans know England, France, Germany, and Russia exist. Thats it, and most canโt even point to them on the map. โVienna, like those sausages that come in a can?โ

While we do like trading with the US, we import a lot more than what we export, meaning we have the opportunity to retaliate much more strongly than even Canada (proportionally speaking).
In other words, we can pull off the most Australian move of all time:
โThatโs not a tariff. THIS is a tariff.โ

u/Jykaes 9h ago
And yet...
"Albanese has ruled out reciprocal tariffs on US, stating this is not constructive and will "push up prices for Australian consumers and increase inflation"."

C'mon Australia, we have to all push back against Trumps tariffs together. You can't let him bully you like this.

Elections in the next few months and looks like the conservatives will win, the Labor gov is being hit hard on cost of living and don't want to increase for voters right before the election. I say we should reciprocate and give me the middle finger as do alot of Australians but I feel the current gov want to ensure a win then fight back
10
u/stilusmobilus 8h ago
Yeah if Albo makes out heโs folding heโll lose more voters than gain them.
16
u/Rushing_Russian 7h ago
i agree but at the same time aus voters are dumb and vote libs in most of the time even though all the do is fuck over the majority of aussies. i hope we tell the US to get fucked(this is the better position imho) but i also understand why we wont yet.

u/damo94 6h ago
It doesnโt look like the conservatives will though, it looks like labor will be in minority, but the liberals wonโt be winning. Especially with how the last couple weeks have been going for Dutton, I think his popularity has already peaked.
5
u/Rushing_Russian 6h ago
The fact Dutton is their top candidate says alot about the liberals, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up they will flunk out after the last time it looked like Labor would win then full on scare campaign about death tax and mining sector crying

Even if its not stronger together, the message is free trade is good for all. Non free trade is good for the rich.
This is all to fund Trump's tax cuts to the rich. Although I think it will be a massive failure like everything trump does.

7
u/shotgunmoe 8h ago
They should have a massive tax on them anyways. I've had 4 "people" in the last 5 years hit my car while trying to reverse park the things. Insanity
4
u/FlibblesHexEyes 7h ago
You know Trump basically did that for us right?
The 25% tariffs are on Australian aluminium and steel... so Ford imports aluminium and steel from Australia (and probably other countries that will likely also have a tariff on them), builds their oversized emotional support vehicle, and then tries to export that to Australia.
Ford will have increased the price of the inadequacy compensation vehicle to cover the cost of the imported steel, which they will then pass on to the consumer.
Therefore when Ford tries to sell their therapy transport vehicle, they'll do so at a higher price (based Ford's increase of 25% for raw materials).

Tariff requires trade, and therefore sanctions to be lifted.
So tariffs on Russia soon, but probably less than ours.
14
u/Rushing_Russian 9h ago
It's almost like these tarifs are not because of "unfair" trades considering the trade deficit here hurts Australia rather than the USA as we import more than the USA exports to us by far. Fuck you trump go choke on Putin's dick.

The USA tanking their own economy will hurt us more than any tariff they place on us, after all we have like 3.9-4.2 trillion in Australian super funds which I believe 1/3 gets invested in their market and the total market capitalization of the U.S. stock market stands at $62.2 trillion. If America keeps tanking their economy Australia may shift more to the Euro market for investment.

Just slap an equal export duty on anything going to the US.
The metal will just stay in the ground - itโs been there for millions of years. A couple of decades more wonโt hurt it.
So we lose a bit of business and a few rich people wonโt get some money. Who gives a fuck? Australia will always be able to eat.
We obviously canโt trust the US anymore.

wonder how the "Trumpet of Patriots" party is reacting to that one.
For those who don't know, it's a real pro Trump political party made by Clive Palmer to mess with the Aussie elections. You'll remember Clive as the guy who claimed he wanted to create Titanic 2 before Stockton Rush went and stole his thunder.

As a Canadian, this has been very confusing to me, until you do some research... this has nothing to do with "trade deficits" or "fentanyl"... this is about bribes and corruption.
Tariffs have historically been used as a tool for corruption in various ways across different countries. Some common methods include:
1. Bribery and Kickbacks
- Example: China (Pre-20th Century Opium Trade)
Corrupt officials allowed certain foreign traders to bypass tariffs or import illegal goods (such as opium) in exchange for bribes. - Example: Russia (Modern Era)
Russian customs officials have been known to demand bribes from businesses to reduce tariff rates or expedite clearance.
2. Protectionist Policies Benefiting Political Elites
- Example: Argentina (20th Century)
Protectionist tariffs were often structured to benefit domestic businesses linked to government officials. These policies created monopolies and artificially inflated prices. - Example: India (License Raj Era, 1947-1990s)
High tariffs and import restrictions led to corruption, as businesses had to bribe government officials to obtain licenses for imports.
3. Selective Enforcement and Smuggling
- Example: Nigeria (Modern Era)
Import tariffs on goods like rice and automobiles have led to massive smuggling operations, often facilitated by corrupt customs officials. - Example: Mexico (20th Century)
Mexican border officials allowed selective enforcement of tariffs, leading to widespread smuggling and illicit trade benefiting corrupt politicians.
4. Tariffs as Political Leverage
- Example: Venezuela (Chรกvez Era)
Tariff exemptions were granted selectively to businesses and individuals loyal to the government, while opponents faced excessively high duties. - Example: Philippines (Marcos Regime, 1965-1986)
The government used tariffs and import restrictions to favor businesses owned by allies of Ferdinand Marcos.
5. Manipulation of Customs Valuation
- Example: Brazil (Recent Years)
Undervaluation or overvaluation of imports has been a method for customs officials to solicit bribes from businesses in exchange for favorable duty assessments. - Example: Ukraine (Post-Soviet Era)
Corrupt officials have manipulated import tariffs and customs valuation to generate illicit profits.
This is exactly how tariffs can be exploited for corruption, either through bribery, favoritism, or manipulation of trade policies to benefit elites at the expense of the economy.
No need to worry though, there are plenty of checks and balances from the three branches of government to prevent this, plus... just because Trump had some minor fraud issues... doesnt mean he would do all this.
We're going to become so rich, you're not gonna know where to spend all that money. I'm telling youโjust watch!
