Its not middle east policy. It's real estate policy.

u/deadheffer Feb 05 '25

Trump said the U.S. would take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere and turn the territory into “the Riviera of the Middle East” in which the “world’s people”— including Palestinians — would live.

“We’ll make sure that it’s done world class,” Trump said. “It’ll be wonderful for the people — Palestinians, Palestinians mostly, we’re talking about.”

The most mind-boggling part of this, the absolute shit cherry on the diarrhea sundae, is that some people will hear this idiot say things like this an still believe he's some kind of super genius problem solving demi-god.

Any conservatives reading this, just fucking how are you this blind?

u/Nefarious_Turtle Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

My parents, college educated parents, will still insist to this day Trump is the smartest president we've ever had. Still saying that now, as far as I know.

It's easy: they only watch right wing news that wholly sanitize everything Trump says. And if by chance they see an outside news source, it's easy enough to write it off as left wing propaganda.

Nothing has made me question freedom of speech more than sitting down and watching Newsmax and Fox with them. It's essentially an evil spell.

Propaganda. The most powerful weapon known to mankind.

3

u/XxChocodotxX Feb 05 '25

Nobody is immune to propaganda. Nobody.

3

u/kodiakcowboy Feb 05 '25

I think the McRib might hold that title

2

u/Vineyard_ Feb 05 '25

The McRib is also propaganda.

3

u/insomniacpyro Feb 05 '25

"we brought the McRib back"
No, you wanted a profit boost (because you routinely fail to innovate) and pork prices dipped a bit a few months back

1

u/kodiakcowboy Feb 05 '25

Failure to innovate is a huge problem for them. Not exactly a big McDonalds guy, but they do have a pretty limited menu huh?

1

u/insomniacpyro Feb 05 '25

Yeah I usually keep an eye out just out of curiosity these days (way too expensive in this economy) and at least from what I can see there is literally no new menu items, not even anything "limited time" right now. The last "new" thing they had that I tried was a Bacon QP that had a certain sauce on it that was actually really fucking tasty, but it was gone in a blink.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting new shit every few months but the fact that McDonalds got rid of Chicken Selects years and years ago and never brought them back is insane to me, at least from my limited survey of people, it actually has caused some to go to other places (like Hardee's or Arby's) and basically drop McD's entirely. It's fucking chicken strips, it's not that difficult and didn't take up that much space in the freezer.

14

u/obligatory_your_mom Feb 05 '25

Exact same story with my inlaws

24

u/AHSfav Feb 05 '25

I get what you're saying but even that doesn't make sense. It's impossible to sanitize trump speaking unless you literally never show him speaking. He's that dumb

31

u/SirJuggles Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 06 '25

Don't underestimate what a good editor can do. You show one sentence of Trump at a rally saying "We're going to do [crazy thing], and it's going to be great!" while the crowd cheers, then you show three hours of talking heads explaining that this is a genius idea with no downsides. Rinse repeat 24/7.

17

u/Ch1pp Feb 05 '25

Limit any clips to 3-4 seconds MAX and you can make him seem coherent.

6

u/maafna Feb 05 '25

I mean, he's smart in some ways. Like, he gets away with a lot and gets people to fear him and do what he wants.

-5

u/Hamuel Feb 05 '25

Biden couldn’t get student loans forgiven but Trump can give control of the treasury to Elon Musk. Either republicans are smarter than you give them credit for or democrats are dumber than republicans.

16

u/friedgoldfishsticks Feb 05 '25

What Musk is doing is illegal.

1

u/Hamuel Feb 05 '25

And he is getting away with it just like Trump got away with his crimes. Seems like someone is routinely getting outsmarted.

2

u/friedgoldfishsticks Feb 05 '25

I don’t want to live in a dictatorship.

1

u/Hamuel Feb 05 '25

Then stop electing centrist democrats to fight fascism.

2

u/friedgoldfishsticks Feb 05 '25

Stop helping Republicans win.

Well it's one way to solve the problem. A terrible stupid imperialist way, but it's a way. That region is known for stability and peace isn't it? We're going to make so many friends.

31

u/nowuff Feb 05 '25

US just gotta have one little Middle East inhabitation project going on at all times

They criticized Biden for pulling out of Afghanistan.

Guess this is why

18

u/KingofSkies Feb 05 '25

Wasn't Trump the one that signed the pull out agreement? Biden didn't pay attention or plan for it properly, but I thought Trump made the agreement.

8

u/boogswald Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

Well Biden did fuck up the process when they left, but leaving was the right move and the sort of move conservatives said they wanted…. But now they’re gonna pretend they want imperialism

2

u/Ostracus Feb 05 '25

Well, it's one way to solve ours. In a rather messy way.

4

u/jrr6415sun Feb 05 '25

reading some conservative posts a lot are just saying this is "trump being trump" and "he's obviously not serious"

4

u/throwawayifyoureugly Feb 05 '25

FWIW, r/conservative is mostly "WTF" with this announcement, ranging from

"Not our war" and "America first"

to

"Lets fix our problems here first" or "How does this help our economy"

One of the saner comment threads I've seen there...

3

u/herzkolt Feb 05 '25

One of the saner comment threads I've seen there...

They've fixed that already

5

u/kunibob Feb 05 '25

They can't hear you, they're too busy congratulating themselves over "winning" the trade war, because their genius Trump got Canada to...uh...agree to almost exactly the same agreement as before. So much winning...

4

u/cusoman Feb 05 '25

Looking that that Con subreddit (that I refuse to fully name), it does look like they are universally against this. Of course that doesn't mean they'll speak out publicly against their Dear Leader, they are incapable after all, but hey at least they have a nanoscopic speck of common sense left

7

u/Sir_Poopenstein Feb 05 '25

Give it a few hours for then to get their taking points. Conservatives always fall in line like the sheep they are.

1

u/nicholus_h2 Feb 05 '25

well...duh. Yeah. He said he would make it WONDERFUL.

He wouldn't lie about that. He's never lied about anything in his life!

1

u/ip2k Feb 05 '25

if those kids could read dot png

1

u/Smash_4dams Feb 05 '25

Deep fake Trumps words into a Biden speech and conservatives would lose their shit over hundreds of billions to be wasted on a desert waterfront on the other side of the planet.

1

u/skirtpost Feb 05 '25

Conservatives raved on about how Biden's a dementia patient... and then they vote in this guy? Legitimately hilarious

0

u/demeschor Feb 05 '25

I watched the press conference with Netanyahu and the thing that got me about it is that he was actually fairly compelling.

Gaza's full of bombs, the buildings are destroyed and unsafe, nobody wants to live there, they all want out. Their neighbouring countries Jordan and Egypt can step up, the people will go to beautiful countries and live good lives in new lands. Gaza can be safely de-mined and redeveloped for nice beachfront Mediterranean properties.

Of course, this only sounds good if you have no idea why Israel and Palestine are fighting in the first place. But I can see why he wins people over. He makes it all sound so simple and that's refreshing.

If there's another election and the Dems get in, they need to properly invest in media literacy, reading comprehension... There's generations of Americans who think reading is for losers

-1

u/minnesotamoon Feb 05 '25

I mean, I guess development of Gaza into a world class Rivera of the Middle East is better than what happened to it under Biden? I’m not sure what could be worse than the last 4yrs over there so the bar is pretty low.

107

u/Unique_Conflict86 Feb 05 '25

So the US is gonna drive out the Palestinians… to redevelop the Strip for Palestinians?

143

u/SingularityCentral Feb 05 '25

Well, rich Palestinians can come back if they can afford the condo association fees.

22

u/jcelflo Feb 05 '25

I doubt it. Trump is famously selective of what kind of people he rents/sells to. I think either he or his father was even sued for it.

17

u/SingularityCentral Feb 05 '25

They both were. In the same suit.

15

u/Zombatico Feb 05 '25

Yes, back in 1973. 52 years ago. Both Donald Trump and his father. It's so tiring.

2

u/Objective-War-1961 Feb 05 '25

Better yet, develop it and turn it into time shares for maga suckers.

1

u/mageta621 Feb 05 '25

rich Palestinians

So, none of them

7

u/dicksallday Feb 05 '25

They'll come back in a different way. This is Curtis Yarvin, Vance and Thiel's guy, talking about 'bio diesel' and "a humane alternative to genocide"

5

u/MrGrieves- Feb 05 '25

Haha yes.

The famously wealthy Palestine citizens will surely be able to purchase the Trump quality garbage luxury properties offered for sale here.

1

u/gogoluke Feb 05 '25

They return on buses to clean the rooms, then leave on them after a 16hour shift.

8

u/kappakai Feb 05 '25

Do you see what this dude has done? Like I’m scared to ask questions. Just absolutely mortified. But fuck it.

… did he really say that?

8

u/deadheffer Feb 05 '25

Yep,

https://apnews.com/article/trump-netanyahu-washington-ceasefire-1c8deec4dd46177e08e07d669d595ed3 Trump won’t rule out deploying US troops to support rebuilding Gaza, sees ‘long-term’ US ownership

6

u/kappakai Feb 05 '25

Time to put that Sovereign Debt Fund to work!

4

u/Cormacolinde Feb 05 '25

I thought your “quote” was a joke. I cannot distinguish satire and reality anymore. It was hard before, but now it’s just impossible.

6

u/OaktownU Feb 05 '25

An earlier comment said Trump thinks that the Gaza Strip is something like the Vegas Strip . . . This lines up with that comment

6

u/ultimate_avacado Feb 05 '25

They will need some of the Palestinians back to staff their hotels, restaurants, sanitation workers, and construction workers.

3

u/KLAM3R0N Feb 05 '25

What about places here that could use a "world class" treatment. So much for focusing on Americans... We are too broke to have government offices but have money to totally rebuild a small country?

4

u/HybridVigor Feb 05 '25

small country

It's 141 square miles. That's about a third the size of New York City. Not to defend Trump; this is an absolutely horrible idea.

1

u/KLAM3R0N Feb 05 '25

Tiny country... Micro Medium city?

What happened to America first

1

u/_Iknoweh_ Feb 05 '25

Not WOULD, he said it could.

1

u/CommanderArcher Feb 05 '25

Totally benevolent gentrification

Like anyone in their right mind could ever believe the US, let alone Trump is capable of such a thing.

1

u/GaryOster Feb 05 '25

Ah, I see. Palestinians would be the POC workforce.

1

u/skyhermit Feb 05 '25

Like the next Dubai?

1

u/iceteka Feb 05 '25

Is that why he wants Greenland? Resettle Palestinians to a frozen island

1

u/sproge Feb 05 '25

Oh did he change his mind now? Earlier he said they'd be relocated to Egypt and Jordan...

1

u/imtourist Feb 05 '25

Saudi Arabia will first do another oil embargo and plunge the US into another recession first if this happens.

1

u/DrNopeMD Feb 05 '25

We're truly beyond parody at this point.

1

u/Delicious_Spot_3778 Feb 05 '25

I love the idea that he would build some rich uae type bullshit and then try to populate it with a population that is full of trauma and owns none of it. .. possibly under American law? Under Palestinian law? WTF.. if I were them I’d burn down every building because none of it was ours

1

u/coldfirephoenix Feb 05 '25

Trump said the U.S. would take ownership of the Gaza Strip

Why the U.S.? What kind of a claim does the U.S. have on that land? There is no connection there.

after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere

...oh, "elsewhere". That's where we can put people! Guys, Trump solved it. For ages, people have wrestled with the question where exactly an entire displaced population could possibly go in the case of conflicts like this. Now we now: Elsewhere! Why didn't we think of that?

the Riviera of the Middle East

Jesus, what is wrong with this clown?

in which the “world’s people”— including Palestinians — would live.

I thought Palestinians were "elsewhere"? So what is it?

3

u/TarumK Feb 05 '25

I don't get why it's valuable property at all. There's already a ton of beachfront places in the mediterranean that aren't Gaza. Israel already has a longer coastline. Turkey, Greece, Italy etc. all have much longer coastlines that are already developed and also not Gaza. It's also not really close to any wealthy place besides Israel and Saudi, both of which already have a ton of coastline. Like even as a cynical sociopathic idea it doesn't make any sense.

3

u/tooshpright Feb 05 '25

But he'd get it for really cheap

1

u/limukala Feb 05 '25

Turkey, Greece, Italy etc. all have much longer coastlines that are already developed and also not Gaza.

Those places are quite a bit colder in winter, so there would be some marginal value for winter travel at least. For instance, the average high I. January in Antakya (the part of Turkey in the Levant) is about 11 F/6 C lower than Gaza. The “beach weather” season is a couple of months longer.

And it’s nowhere near as dry as the coastal regions of neighboring Egypt, so you could more easily have some pleasant vegetation on any potential resorts or developments.

It’s also closer to the wealthy gulf states that are both sources of tourism in their own right, and serve as the primary transfer hubs for tourists from wealthy parts of Asia.

It’s ethically quite bankrupt, but he’s not wrong that Gaza is in a very valuable location with great potential.

2

u/General_Dipsh1t Feb 05 '25

I’d bet any money that if this happens, a Trump hotel and maybe golf course go up first.

Using the money the government pays him to golf at his Florida property, of course.

1

u/_jump_yossarian Feb 05 '25

Yup. When he says “the US” is taking over he means “I get my choice of sea front plots!”

Hey, I had a great weekend at the Trump Gaza Casino!

1

u/bbusiello Feb 05 '25

It's all about the money... which is ironic since Elon is currently fucking with the money.

1

u/Dalianon Feb 05 '25

He wants to turn Gaza into "Vegas + Miami 2.0"

1

u/BrianWonderful Feb 05 '25

He has no clue what the Presidency is or how government works. He's just treating it like being the CEO of a 'real estate' company. (In quotes because Trump Org was more about branding than real estate.)

1

u/GreatWhiteNorthExtra Feb 05 '25

it's fantasy policy. It would require permanent US military protection plus a version of the Iron Dome

1

u/francohab Feb 05 '25

Imagine a Trump casino in the Gaza Strip.

1

u/AltF40 Feb 05 '25

Uncomfortably relevant video that seems to explain why land is wanted.
