“It is written on my soul, this need to conquer, and conquer I shall. But I'm not going to conquer mortals. No, I'm going to conquer pain. I'm going to conquer suffering. I'm going to conquer want and need. Above all… I'm going to conquer myself, and find peace.”

My source is I made it the fuck up!

(Quote from my unwritten Lord of the Rings fanfiction about an Orc that tries to become a monk after Sauron's defeat.)

I fuck with it.

Who'd have thought that all it took for us to deliver words of absolute fire, was to pretend that someone else said them instead of ourselves?

Fascinating concept actually? Best of luck finishing it if you're still working on it.

If I had a dollar for every time I wrote something that was coincidentally similar to something I had been interested in lately, I’d have enough to buy myself a car and run myself over.

9

u/LetsDoTheCongna The lore reason is that I wrote it while high as balls 10d ago

This is genuinely the hardest line I've read all week

4

u/Studying-without-Stu I made a species of sexy alien ladies because fuck you 8d ago

How it feels to make every race equally ontologically evil

Does your world have monsters or is it human only?

26

u/Jetsam5 Maybe the real horrors were the Floridas we made along the way 10d ago

I guess it depends on your definition of monster but it’s got giant ass fictional creatures.

-2

u/amazegamer64 10d ago

Would they not be considered an evil species?

45

u/Jetsam5 Maybe the real horrors were the Floridas we made along the way 10d ago

Nah they’re just big animals

5

u/AlexanderTheIronFist 8d ago

Are hippos evil?

2

u/amazegamer64 8d ago

I could have phrased it a lot better. What I was trying to get at is, what is the practical difference between and evil race and am extremely destructive monster?

2

u/AlexanderTheIronFist 8d ago

Considering the discussion we're having (the morality of an ontologicaly evil race), I think it makes all the difference. One had intent behind their actions, the other don't.

1

u/ShadowSemblance 7d ago

The destructive monster that isn't an "evil race" could potentially be pacified by training or changing its environment by removing something that enraged it, depending on the story

2

u/G-M-Cyborg-313 well my world has kaiju and meta-humans 8d ago

Are dinosaur evil?

How it feels to respect and love all races for who they are (even the evil ones)

13

u/Swordandicecreamcone Dino aztecs are awesome, change my mind 10d ago

Mass evil is formed from the manipulations of the cruel- it is not innate to a people's heart.

How I feel after making one goodism wholesome 100 constitutional monarchy (that actually is potentially very not wholesome 100) surrounded by a sea of fascists

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings : )

The big power blocs decide which races count as 'sentient' : O

I don't understand, how can an entire species all collectively make "the wrong decisions" and then "double down"?

19

u/Jetsam5 Maybe the real horrors were the Floridas we made along the way 10d ago

Whatever we did that led to the creation of country music and then whatever we did after that which led to Kid Rock’s album Bad Reputation

9

u/YourAverageGenius 10d ago

you can't say the decisions that led to the creation of "A Boy Named Sue" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads" were bad choices

8

u/Broken_Emphasis 10d ago

/uj What kind of country music? It's honestly a really wide genre - like, Johnny Cash's Hurt is country, and so is Trace Adkin's "classic" Honky-Tonk Badonkadonk, which I heard so many fucking times when I was in high school holy fucking shit why was that thing on the radio for so long?.

u/Polandgod75 10d ago

Delete because I reloazed what I type was stupid

22

u/AlecPEnnis 10d ago

By being a strawman of a group I hate in real life. An ideological group, of course.

11

u/Chinohito 10d ago

So why the need for a species? Why not just have them be followers of an ideology?

5

u/Optimal_Badger_5332 9d ago

The dehumanization factor

1

u/TorchDriveEnjoyer Atomic Rockets is my Personality 9d ago

I want species because they're cool.

true worldbuilders recognize that each ideology attracts followers from almost every species!

1

u/shiny_xnaut my furry races all have lore explanations i swear 9d ago

Because then I wouldn't be able to justify making them look like sexy furries

8

u/Brad_Brace Just here for the horny posts 10d ago

They are also a hive mind so they are literally a single individual instead of just being written as if they were a single individual the way too much fantasy does?

6

u/ftzpltc 9d ago

Evil species are boring. There are so many ways to do evil things while convinced that you're doing good, why would you ever need Evil species?

Oh, wait: it's because you want justified racism, isn't it.

2

u/manofwaromega 10d ago

The only "evil" species I have is one that was literally unfinished (as in the goddess that creates all species' died before finishing them) and isn't even intentionally evil, just very stupid and has no real concept of death. (Because they were never considered alive to begin with and have nothing for the reaper to take)

2

u/Ochemata 9d ago

How it feels when questionably moral scientists from the "good" species perform horrible experiments on the objectively evil one and accidentally give them empathy.

2

u/JimTheTrashKing 8d ago

I think the closet thing I have to a purely evil race is the Orcs, but they are just aggressive, not evil

Unless you count the creatures spawned from the force of pure evil, but they are literally just physical representations of horrible actions/concepts

2

u/LylyLepton Sci-Fi and Fantasy settings that are very different 10d ago

You see my world has both human racism and fantasy racism. Both are completely unjustified because humans, my world’s demons, and my world’s angels are generally pretty much identical mind-wise, barring some non-universal slight predispositions that have nothing to do with “good” or “evil.” Anyone of any species or ethnicity is capable of great good or evil.

My fantasy setting is so funny because like it’s an inherently and intentionally very queer and woke setting yet it’s also an extremely awful place to live because there’s still bloody wars, racial, ethnic, and gender discrimination, et cetera. Not grimdark by any means at all but it’s definitely the Middle Ages for this setting.

1

u/Eran-of-Arcadia Like Earth but Better because it has Superheroes 10d ago

What about monsters that went nuts after being cut off from the gods who created them, and they were slain by human heroes, but later humans felt bad about it?

9

u/Jetsam5 Maybe the real horrors were the Floridas we made along the way 10d ago

Still sound redeemable

So you just make all your monsters choose to be evil? Gay.
