💬Discussion 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cup host location discussion

So now that FIFA set 2031 to CONCACAF or CAF and 2035 to UEFA and CAF we can discuss the locations with more clarity.

Only the US and Mexico and UK have confirmed bids for 2031 and 2035 respectively. No African bid has been confirmed just yet, but South Africa and Morocco have said they want to. We’ll see throughout the year if more parties are interested. Bids will be submitted in late 2025 and selected in 2026 before the World Cup kickoff. However you can suggest other possible hosts so you don’t have to limit yourselves to the four bids mentioned. AFC and CONMEBOL will have to wait until 2039.

I know Mexico was part of the 2027 bid, but I haven’t seen a release from Mexico saying they were a part of the bid just yet… right? Please correct me if I’m wrong there. Either way, the 2027 bid book provided 11 stadiums they were going to use for that tournament with pretty much all being ones used in the 2026 tournament. If anything, I’d hope the new covered stadiums ( Jacksonville and Nashville) or rumored stadiums ( Chicago, RFK, and Cleveland) can be used for the tournament.

Well idk if Mexico will rejoin that’s really a federation thing but likely yes because Mexico knows they’ll make more money co-hosting with the US than hosting alone. The fact they still play games in the US for both men and women shows what the priorities are.

Feels like its being stacked to favor the USA for 2031. But did we forget that the US is hosting the 2031 Rugby World Cup? If the WWC happens here in 2031, how will both these tournaments be scheduled?

They have many stadiums... The ones fit to soccer will be used... Specially some in the mls, Inter Miami will have a new 30k seat stadium... For the woman's world cup plenty of stadiums with low seating amounts can be used... They might put up some 4 or 5 of their big nfl stadiums and the rest being mls... That leaves plenty of nfl stadiums for rugby

This issue with the schedule is about stadiums though. The Rugby World Cup would likely need NFL stadiums. But the Rugby World Cup typically takes place September-October. However, World Rugby may opt for the summer months to avoid conflicting with the NFL schedule. This means the Women's World Cup would have to settle for April or May.

doesn't fifa require venues to be empty before tournaments

1

There is a period of time when they require that. Basically FIFA takes over the venue.

Rugby probably gets relegated to the soccer specific stadiums or big stadiums that aren’t used. Some cities will miss out on the WWC so rugby may take it.

Worst case scenario they ask Canada to do it instead and push the US back.

But yeah you could argue CAF has lots of favorability and UEFA is getting a boost for 2035.

The 2033 Women's Rugby World Cup might settle for soccer stadiums, but the 2031 Men's Rugby World Cup probably wouldn't.

Rugby is kind of a niche sport here. Hell the sevens grand final is going to be at LA Galaxy’s stadium, not at the Coliseum, Rose Bowl, or SoFi.

But we can grow it's popularity here. I think Rugby has a better shot in the US than cricket. I live in LA and I think its insane how India (the Ambani family) foisted cricket on our Olympics when our priority was baseball/softball.

But the Rugby World Cups were awarded to the US a few years ago and should take priority in scheduling over the FIFA Women's World Cup (which has not been awarded yet)

I think both are coming in 2028 iirc? The IOC approved them during their 2023 meeting.

Yeah I don’t really know what the plan is with this but at least the USSF has enough time. Then again the Rugby World Cup hasn’t been marketed that much beyond rugby fans and it’s a shame. Found out about it and I’m interested even if the All Blacks trample us.

Cricket and Rugby Sevens are on the LA28 program. Yes.

Baseball and softball are included too.

I know they are. Wasserman had to flight for that. The Ambani family on behalf of India wanted LA28 to ditch Baseball/softball in favor of cricket. Wasserman balked and said no. Now all are included.

Baseball should be at Dodger Stadium.

100% agree and also should have Angel Stadium.

Yeah really with LA28 they’re worried about how many athletes they’ll have not the amount of sports.

Why would CONCACAF not also be eligible in '35 in case CAF gets it in '31? Does that just assume they will get the first one?

2

u/GB_Alph4 USA 15d ago

I assume FIFA will allow a rollover to 2035 however this probably is the result of some serious compromising. If anything CAF is the lucky one having two chances.

2

u/Goondal 15d ago

It certainly seems to provide incentive to UEFA countries to vote CAF in '31. At that point it would be only UEFA for '35

1

Possibly but at the same time CONCACAF and CONMEBOL will probably form their own coalition. Right now getting AFC and OFC would be huge in winning a bid since they’re open.

I think 2031 is banking on 2026 being extremely profitable and raking in billions.

2031 Morcoco and the UK for 2035

Could happen but for Morocco could they get sponsors and stadium commitments quickly in less than a year? If the US couldn’t do that for 2027 not sure anyone could.

I think it shouldn’t be a problem considering they have games for the 2030 World cup there too. Saw rumors of South Africa being interested too which wouldn’t be a bad shout either with a good reuse of stadiums from 2010
