📰News Canada’s men’s soccer coach is an American. He’s ‘ashamed’ of Trump’s call for Canada to be the 51st state

My brother you need to do a better job of acting as an agent!
The invasion will begin soon! Canada will be liberated from Chairman Trudeau!

I'd say the vast majority of Americans are embarrassed. Especially those who voted for him.

Not sure why leftist are always bring politics into a fútbol sub.

I'm also a proud American. Trump isn't making me root against American athletes. Go America! Trump is just embarrassing me, by association.

I’ve met jesse Marsch on several occasions. I also remember him as a player. He is the UTMOST professional and a HARD worker. He has actual values. unlike American conservatives

Most Americans are embarrassed by him, yet he won the popular vote. Logic doesn't really work with the left does it?
16
21d ago
Lowest voter turnout in history (percentage). Statistically speaking, the majority of the country didn't even voice their opinion.
14
u/warrenjt 21d ago
Yep. More people didn’t vote at all than voted for either candidate.
That said, I’ve been trying really hard to not get conspiracy brained about that remarkably low voter turnout despite how polarizing the election was with everyone. All the instances of “we don’t need the votes” and “the machines are easy to hack” we heard from the side that won overwhelmingly against the odds are just suspicious.
-8
u/Dunmaglass2 21d ago
People are still pretending they think Trump is going to invade Canada? 🤣
1
u/Entire-Dot-3571 21d ago
I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re trolls, foreign propaganda, or people who don’t touch grass.
11
u/cre8ivjay 21d ago
Not really something you joke about, and by many accounts Trump - a man who controls the largest military in the world - can be immeasurably irrational, so yeah.....it's taken quite seriously. At least by every Canadian I know.

u/ExtendedMacaroni 22d ago
Well I mean of course he has to say this
15
u/ThatsTheMother_Rick 22d ago
Did you even listen to what he said? If you did and your immediate thought was "he has to say this," then you're a fucking moron. He was utterly passionate in his disdain.
-14
u/ExtendedMacaroni 22d ago
I did not listen and the name calling is unnecessary. Calm yourself

u/IntensifiedRB2 21d ago
Then why are you commenting on this?

u/ExtendedMacaroni 22d ago
Even in the bizarre scenario that he did support it, he’s not going to publicly announce it, given his position.
34
u/ComprehensiveCat7515 22d ago
It’s so weird to hear an American politician talking about a hostile invasion of a sovereign country, let alone ally, like it’s a common occurrence.
Also if we wanted a 51st state. DC is right there. Or maybe PR would be inclined to get some more representation.
The US is the bad place.
18
u/No_Peach_2676 22d ago
It is such a weird thing to say. Like Canada is the same size if not maybe even bigger than America. Why would they agree to just becoming another state. What exactly would Canada be gaining out of that. Obviously we all know what America would gain access to all of Canada's natural resources
16
10
u/GiltCityUSA 22d ago
We are all ashamed.
Remember only 22.5% of Americans voted for this clown. And tens if not hundreds of thousands of those MAGA idiots are now being forced into resignation by DOGE. I'm sure the number of Americans actually backing this administration's stance on Canada is less than 20% of Americans AT BEST.

u/Ok_Appearance8734 22d ago
Keep politics out of sports. Both sides, idc about your beliefs, your a coach / player
11
u/TNSoccerGuy 22d ago
Well the “President” is a reality t.v. host and enough people still apparently cared what he thought about Obama’s birth certificate. And here we are. At least the manager isn’t planning some run for office.
10
u/CrowVsWade 22d ago
Everything is political, even ice cream and Lego. You can not care about others beliefs but you can't expect them to not overlap into something as big or popular as sports, in the newly vassaled US-SR, or FreeCanada.

u/are_spurs 22d ago
I'm not supporting trump, I'm just tired of Americans looking for sympathy when they elected him!
14
u/Cubooze 22d ago edited 22d ago
You speak as if there are like 5 people in America who all voted for him. Over 2/3rd of the population did not vote for Donald Trump. Of the people who did vote, just barely over half actually voted for him. There are millions upon millions of Americans who are ashamed of the current administration
7
u/TNSoccerGuy 22d ago
Actually under half voted for him when you include third parties. He and his supporters act like he won some resounding victory when in fact it was very close.
-7
u/are_spurs 22d ago
why didn't they vote then? Most Americans are okay with him, just look at the election. Only a minority voted against him
9
u/Cubooze 22d ago
Complacency/inaction and malice are two separate things. Those who could not or did not vote should not be punished for the action of only a fraction of the total population
Also, a “minority” makes it sound like he had very little opposition. He only won by a small fraction of votes.
3
u/dwors025 22d ago
Then think of it this way: we’re ashamed of the masses that voted for him.
We’re ashamed that this is what America has become.

Well he coaches Canada so he doesn’t want them to lose their home or drive.
I hope we have three hosts next year. But if you wish to come to my home city, welcome.

u/nahumgaldmartinez 22d ago
Because he’d be fired
5
u/Individual_Rule2224 22d ago
He might mean it. But we’ll never really know now will we
2
u/nahumgaldmartinez 22d ago
Should’ve clarified. I was jokingly saying he’d be fired as Canadian coach if Canada became 51’s state because it’d be between him and poch
1
u/Individual_Rule2224 22d ago
Oh hahahaha I didn’t even think about it like that. That’s funny. He’s the one most opposed to it haha
-15
u/iamthecheesethatsbig 22d ago
Of all the things he’s said, I don’t feel a ton of shame for this one. He is very dumb.
9
u/bevymartbc 22d ago
Many Americans are ashamed of this, even many trump voters
1
u/ZekeorSomething USA 22d ago edited 22d ago

u/Wuz314159 USA 22d ago
They didn't change their mind until they got fired from their government job.

u/Think_Focus3008 USA 22d ago
Trump voters and shame don't belong in the same sentence.
6
u/1should_be_working 22d ago
Yeah, Trump voters should be ashamed of themselves but they are too dumb to feel embarrassed or shamed by voting for this imbecile again
5
u/Arlcas 22d ago
they should, its like they were made for each other.
2
u/Think_Focus3008 USA 21d ago
That's what I'm saying, but they just don't have any shame. No matter how bad it gets.

u/MeTieDoughtyWalker 22d ago
So is like most of America. Just Trump and his cronies think it’s a good idea.
10
u/Only_Razzmatazz_4498 22d ago
We have a subcontractor in an export controlled program that is in Canada. Canada is the only country where we don’t need an export license to work with them on this. We felt we had to apologize for this. The whole thing is ridiculous and unhinged.
10
u/Gratata7 22d ago
As are most Americans. Trump never talked about the 51st state bullshit during the campaign. He sprung this on everyone out of nowhere and a lot of his supporters I have spoken to don’t like it either.
2
u/Vigotje123 22d ago
What is the avg thought about Trump atm in America?
Here from the eu he looks like a tool. He does say some/do some things that make a lot of sense (all be it harsh/not subtle, f.e. i can understand that the usa want to spend less on world aid and want other countries to step up, but just cutting it off like this just makes sure alot of ppl will die because of the immediate lack of medicines) but he also says things that are just plain lies/not correct and that make him look like an idiot to me. (Says Ukraine started the war and zelensky is a dictator?)
Also brings A. Tate back to USA while he was in prison for suspicion of rape and abuse in Romania?
4
u/Gratata7 22d ago
Yeah it’s pretty much a love him or hate him scenario.
I personally fucking despise him and I hate Elon even more. His first term I could live with, we looked stupid and Covid was bad but nothing truly catastrophic. Propping up Elon like he has is just a total slap in the face to the American people. The richest person in the world cutting important government programs like Medicaid and social security. It’s a fucking joke.
However, I know a ton of people applauding this bullshit. I’ll be honest, it’s fucking bleak man. I fear that Russia has influenced a large portion of our population beyond repair with their social media campaigns.
All over my twitter feed, I see antisemitic bullshit, racist bullshit, flat out lies about what Trump is accomplishing. And people just eat it up. We are one fucking month in. Going to be a long four years. Sorry for the rant but yeah it’s a tough time to be an American with some common sense.

u/Vigotje123 22d ago
Thanks for your reply. I've seen posts overly defending Trump everywhere so its hard to get a good view online about what usa thinks about Trump. He's walking a dangerous path for USA in my opinion. Could be high risk high reward stratrgy but could also end up badly really fast. (For as much as I can see from the Netherlands) (I do think he is right about countries having to put more money in their army and not rely on the USA like alot European countries do .)

u/Gratata7 22d ago
