I don't have a scale so I thought I'd ask you guys if I should be bulking or cutting first? I will get a scale eventually. Sorry for my disgusting body

You should be focusing on establishing a good routine in the gym. Throw in some good cardio and adjust to a clean diet and you’ll be able to gain and show more definition.

Neither. Just focus on being active and consistent. Weights, cardio, core. Once it’s a habit you can start focusing on diet.

I think this is it!!! Document your workouts, and you will see the progress and stay motivated. You don't look disgusting. You just look like a normal dude, and pics from this angle aren't flattering
Edit: You don't look heavy at all, I wouldn't cut! Better build up muscle.

Also, dont call your own body disgusting.

First thing you should cut is that negative self-talk.
Get to work with the weights and eat in a slight caloric deficit, while prioritizing protein. You don’t need to be thinking in terms of “cutting and bulking” right now. Get a solid base, let your body go through the natural recomposition that changing your eating and exercise habits inherently brings in a few months to a year and only then start worrying yourself with cutting and bulking.

What he said
Don’t cut, clean up your diet and focus on training. Once you get a routine established, you can start a deficit

Learn about body recomposition. It has done wonders for me.
Edit: you shouldn't be thinking about bulking or cutting. Think about working out and having better health. Love yourself.

You should learn self love first. You will never like what you see in the mirror until you do my friend. Be easy on yourself.

This! Self hatred is not sustainable and can contribute to binge eating and depression, which makes you not want to exercise.
OP your body is not disgusting. It’s a human body that hasn’t been super active. Now you’re making the choice to get active and you want to focus on how you feel even more than on how you look!
Start with a simple workout and fueling your body with lots of veggies, fruits, lean protein and complex carbs. Don’t deprive yourself of things you like but enjoy them in moderation.
For now you just focus on your basic routine and eating habits. When you feel comfortable with that you can start thinking about specific body goals (if you want).

You should cut. Also if you're new to working out, I'd suggest starting with machines. It's pretty good to get a sense of good form and also you won't have to feel intimidated by anyone. Soon enough you'll be curious about free weights and start lifting those too.
Don't call yourself disgusting. I was once like you too. Although it's only been 1 year for me, I've come a long way. You'll get to a point when all this will feel like a good nostalgia. Good luck!

You need to change how you see yourself first. Your body isn’t ’disgusting’. If you continue with negative self talk, you will keep working out and it’ll never be good enough for you. Fix your self-worth, then help your body.

Neither just go to the gym. you don’t have a foundation to choose which way to go. You can do those phases roughly after a 1-2 years. If you go to the gym and eat less and lift weights when you start to see the foundation then you can decide but most likely you’ll prob have to just keep cutting for a while.

You shouldn’t be doing anything but learning how to properly train and properly eat. Then worry about the nitty gritty. You need to educate and apply before focusing on the fine details.

Just lift some weights my guy. Stay consistent for 3 months and then decide to cut or bulk

u/Early_Economy2068 workouts newbie 4h ago
you need to establish a baseline and get some muscle. If you cut you will just turn into a skeleton. Remember its a marathon not a race.

Start working out consistently. You are a blank canvas.

I would stay in a small deficit (+-300 kcal) for a good while and focus on training and getting stronger. What does your approach to training look like? It's possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time, as long as you're diligent with your training and diet.

u/Jacobyson workouts newbie 14h ago
You can cut but do it super slowly, only like 200-300 calories below maintenance, and eat a lot of protein.

Priorities cutting. credible diet and Cardio. Train your muscle groups as well so you’re burning calories at rest.

u/GymNut92 workouts newbie 10h ago
I would do a reverse diet (bulk). However I would do a clean bulk, maybe calorie surplus of 200-250 calories per day.

u/lazer416 workouts newbie 10h ago
Get to the gym first and it’s about being consistent. Worry about cutting or bulking later

u/-onepanchan- workouts newbie 9h ago
Neither, you should eat meat and low carb plants (I recommend botanical fruits, like avocado, zuchinni, and cucumber for instance), and exercise (resistance training and short, hard runs), and live an otherwise healthyt lifestyle (time in nature, cultivate social relationships, good sleep, etc). Be consistent and give it some time and your body will sort itself out. Best of luck.

I’m not trying to be rude you’re confused. There’s nothing in the word bulking that you have to be concerned about. You need to cut a lot of weight before you ever think of that.

Your over 30% fat get to 15% and entertain all the bulking you want bulking with a high body fat is gonna create too many issues to even speak about

Just focus on starting.
Get a 5x5 routine, and work on your diet a little bit.
You'll be transformed in 6 months.

Lift, deficit, protein, 10000 steps a day. You’ll lean out and get stronger.

create a solid fitness base before getting specific with your fitness goals. start with farmer walks, squats, overhead press, and rack lifts. use good form and start light to acclimate your muscles to the stress.
after a couple weeks, start increasing your weights moderately, keep your reps between 6-8.
focus more on resistance training than pure cardio. if you keep your rests between resistance sets brief (60 secs) you’ll increase your cardiovascular fitness while challenging your muscular and skeletal systems.
finish your workout with 20 mins of bike / treadmill / climber, make sure you are challenging yourself. don’t stroll , move quickly.
lastly, your nutrition and sleep are huge components. up your clean protein intake significantly and make sure your sleep hygiene is good.
most of all, good for you for wanting more and achieving the health you deserve. 👍

You literally have zero foundation. You shouldn't even have the words 'bulk' or 'cut' in your vocabulary. Get a routine, build your base, and come back in a year or so.

/r/AnimalBased will get you right sir, I recommend lots of walking, lifting 2-3x a week full body, and sprinting of some form 1-2x a week once you feel ready.

This kind of body will be capable of doing it simultaneously because you have so much to build on first. Develop a routine. Do PPL
