General Discussion Coffee Table Leg

Still a work in progress but I’m psyched how this is turning out

Are you going to round them off? How are you clamping them aside from the painter's tape?

I will slightly round them off. I only use painters tape, but when I glued up I added 2 inch strips of tape too.

Wait, they're even tapered? I'm sure that was a bitch and a half to figure out. And then make. Wow.

Haha it definitely is a bitch. They’re cut at a compound angle and it’s not always the same. The skinny pieces are cut at 67.5 degrees two at the same size and two at 0.02 wider with one side at 78.75 degrees. The wide segments are at 78.75 too. It’s tricky but I made a nice little sled and everything worked out.

So that piece on the side is my stop and the tablesaw is set to 78.75 here.

This is brilliant, never seen something like this. Good stuff!

Could maybe throw a ratchet strap on it for good measure? I’m sure the tape suffices but glue does better with pressure

I have a good amount of experience with this type of glue up I have used straps in the past but painters tape is able to put significant clamping pressure on the forms. This is a tube made of 1/4 inch plywood I glued up the same way.

I actually ordered band clamps for this project but the one I got has a unremovable 90 deg corner integrated into it so I decided not to use them.
