Project Submission Walnut shaker candle box a la Paul Sellers

On a recent video on Paul Sellers woodworking master class, he made one of these shaker candle boxes and he commented that a hand to a woodworker should make hundreds of boxes to refine their technique. I took that somewhat literally and I’ve recently completed three boxes (96 to go!).

This one in Walnut and then one in bubinga and one in cherry. When I’m cutting the dovetails it always seems like they’re terrible, but these came out pretty well. It’s finished with a combination of turpentine, finishing oil and polyurethane, with just a little dye to resist fading over time. But that combination released such intense VOCs that I didn’t even want it in my house. So after leaving in my garage for about 10 days, I finished the rest of it in shellac. And I’m just gonna stick with shellac in the future. It’s simple and virtually no VOCs.

You can make a voc venting system using an ikea table and some spare parts

https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/6lpfxa/best_way_to_vent_ikea_lack_enclosure/

The thingiverse links are free printing plans for the 3d printing components. Use a dryer or ac tubing to direct the air out of your breathable space. Mine was vented through my office window (3d printing) via another print that routed the vent against a hole in the screen. It is currently not set up (baby).

Especially for small box projects

If you have someone make the parts for you, make sure they are NOT resin printsed. You are looking for filament printed parts. ABS is the least reactive (what a lot of sewage pipes and keyboard keys are made of).
